What is Your "Pet Peeve" on a Cruise? (something that a particular person finds especially annoying.)

People who “forget” what a line is. This has been particularly an issue at Adventure Ocean. A line of parents will have formed and some parent will walk right past it with their kid, completely confused as to what this gathering of people might be.

I love this one !  I totally agree.  A once-generated orderly line becomes a rush to the front (from the back) once the queue is opened.

Disrespecting crew members. On our last cruise, some woman was at the coffee shop while a crew member was mopping floors. She then said "can you get out of my way so I can order my coffee?" I remember it distinctly since it was so uncalled for.

  1. People that reserve seats in the pool area or solarium.  If you want to enjoy the pool, go and hang out there.  Do not send one person to reserve 10 spots or worse go there and leave towels on them and come back 2 hours later.
  2. Many Pinnacle People and their attitude.  Just because you have cruised more than me does not give you the right to cut in line or treat staff like trash.

These are all so good! I can't stand when someone leaves their towel on a lounge chair ALL DAY and expects it to stay reserved for them. They could reserve a cabana if they wanted that type of experience. Just my two cents.

I've also witnessed multiple instances where people don't wash their hands after using the restroom - GROSS!!!

Parents who don't supervise their kids. I'm not anti-kid, I have them, it's a family cruise line. I get it, it's your vacation too - but it's my vacation as well. Thinking specifically of a recent cruise where kids were with parent in Solarium Bistro (allowed). BUT when kids got bored, parents allowed them to climb through the divider into the pool area (not allowed) and jump on all of the loungers and chairs while shrieking loudly as we tried to enjoy the beautiful view with our morning coffee. We gave up and left before they did. Most of the time I enjoy watching the kids have just so much fun...with parents nearby.

People who just don’t understand the concept of closing a door without slamming it! Especially if their door shares a space with a neighbor’s door, like on the same frame. Too many times I’ve been in my cabin when someone next door just lets their door slam and the whole cabin bangs! Yes, I know it’s a safety issue to ensure the door is closed…but at least try and hold it so it doesn’t slam.

Not too many things get under my skin, but on our last cruise the folks in the cabin next door sat out on their balcony for hours at a time having long and repeated conversations on speaker phone with various friends and family. It made sitting out on our own balcony almost impossible. Even inside our cabin with the sliding door closed, we could still hear their conversations clearly. We'd never experienced anything like that before. Hopefully it won't happen again.

I have to agree with @Maggie M. I was on a cruise once and watched a casino worker walk out without washing her hands. GROSS!  I usually don't say anything but I did with her.

I also have to agree with @FloatyBoaty.  Having travel with 3 kids before, there is no accuse to allow the kids to misbehave.  We always came prepare for items to keep them entertain. I would also stay out of sit down restaurants until the kids themselves could sit down for more than 5 minutes at a time.

Lack of basic elevator etiquette - letting others out before rushing in, moving to the side or back of the car to let someone else in, and letting those who actually need it get on first. All that seems to go out the window for quite a few people as soon as they set foot in the cruise terminal.

We don't have any "Pet Peeve's" But...

People who think vaping is not smoking and think it's ok for a quick puff in the theater

People who think the elevator is not full and can squeeze a few more on.

Kids hitting all the buttons on an elevator before they get off.

People who get something and put on their plate in the windjammer and decide they don't want it and put it back.

People who gather outside the theater talking and not moving out of the way.

Taking children in the solarium because the pool area is too crowed.

Not really exclusive to cruising but people with no spatial awareness in crowds.

If you're talking down the promenade/elevator area in the evening when it's busy, don't randomly stop and look around. Move to the side.  Humans have evolved a lot over the years, but we still have no built in brake lights.

Also people who bring their pets on board under the guise of them being "service dogs." If you're carrying your "service dog" or your "service dog" is cowering with its tail tucked tightly between its legs because it's scared to death, then that's not a service dog.

While I don't see it often, belittling the crew or thinking that you for some reason deserve to be treated like royalty on a cruise because you're Emerald or you bought the beverage package does annoy me.

Don't you wish you can force those kids to stay on the elevator until the elevator had visited all the floors they had selected.  I bet those kids would only do that once.

I witnessed a bored kid hit all the buttons on an elevator then follow the elevator on the stairs watching it stop at each floor

I agree with this.

I'll add the person that hits the door close button as soon as the elevator opens.

I've seen this prevent people who have been waiting to get on. In fact, that's the intent.

One time I was in an elevator with a woman in a wheelchair.  Her floor came up an the door closer guy hits the button. I was able to catch the door so she could get off. Mr. Door Closer was not happy with me though.

We just had this happen to us but I was too quick. The woman complained, “That’s weird, I don’t know why the doors were doing that,” then proceeded to hit Door Close on every subsequent floor. What a mystery!

This annoys me to no end, cruise ship or not.

1.  Wearing shorts and or baseball caps in the main dining room at dinner.  If you just want to wear shorts go to the Windjammer.

2.  Being rude to the staff for any reason.  There are other ways to handle issues away from public view.

3.  Not allowing you to get off an elevator before someone rushes in.

4.  Not Tipping the wait staff for a free Diamond drink.

5.  Wearing political clothing to make a statement on board.  We hear enough of that outside our vacation time.

I’ll never understand the dress code. Khaki shorts and collared polo is not acceptable but jeans and a tshirt  fits the guidelines. Go figure. I agree, I like a bit more dressier dining experience but no one is sending you back to redress! If you cruise enough, you’ve seen it all!!

I think the feeling, your treated as a “wallet”; so it’s income first for the cruise line. The saying, nickel and dimes. Where customer service is second to revenue.

from selling cook books at dinner,( when trying to eat);  to upscaling food, orange juice whipped away post breakfast, soda and beverage packages. Hard sell port excursions, ( the ship will leave without you if not a cruise ship tour); and spa promotion and hard sell at the end of treatments. The not trusting us with pool towels and logging them in and out.

Room service extra fee for delivery and films in room fee.

I went to a bar with two soda refill bottles, we had the package, but the barman refused to serve as only I was there, even a wave from my wife on a chair wasn’t accepted. So they didn’t trust us, but then, went to the next bar, and it was ok. GS said it’s down to bar server discretion.

I get it, they want to maximise income, but I do not like a hard sell or inconsistency.

PS I get the tipping and it isn’t about that.

I have a couple.  EARLY BIRD SUN LOUNGER HOGS          And my second is men who wear baseball caps in the MDR or Specialty Restaurants.  Total lack of etiquette and disrespectful .Rude.  Call me old fashioned, but thats how I still view it.

Reminds me of a Sopranos episode where Tony Soprano told a young man to remove his baseball cap inside a classy Italian restaurant.

Not necessarily cruise-specific, but I seem to notice it more on cruises:  People who stand right in front of the elevator and move in as soon as it opens instead of waiting for people already in the elevator to get off.

My last cruise I got dirty looks from a woman as I exited the elevator preventing her from entering.

Ordering more than two drinks while people are waiting at a bar or cafe -- I can understand ordering a drink for a companion, but getting a tray full for a group is disappointing to everyone else in line.  I realize the argument is that the entire group could wait in line and the impact would be the same, but an observer would see the long line and go somewhere else.

I just saw this on Oasis, a woman came and reserved more than 10 spots on the deck pool, she didn't even had enough towels and stuff to "claim" them all.

I jus sat on one seating that had nothing on it only to be yelled by the "kind" hoarder.

The dancing with all the workers in the main dining room. I don't mind the head person introducing some people, but don't like a conga line while trying to eat and talk.

I agree with this. I could seriously deal without all that nonsense while I am trying to have a conversation with my family.

When I go to the pool with my family of 4 and see this (bank of chairs with just towels), I take them off the chair and replace them with my towels and my family. I have never had an issue. The only way to combat this behavior is to take matters into your own hands.

As follow up, most chair hogs don’t even recall which chairs they dropped their load of towels off. There is some entertainment value when the perpetrator returns to the scene of the crime.

Yes to all of this but #1. As long as they aren't swim trunks and are nice khaki or dressy shorts,I don't see the problem. I'll most likely wear dark jeans every night, but someone in a nice pair if shorts won't ruin my dinner. But 2-5 are huge deals (tipping in general...and I didn't even think of the political stuff. I hope I don't see any on my cruise this month)

Hmmm my biggest one is people who don't read:

Stop putting your water bottles on the lemonade, water, tea dispensers: there is a sign telling you not to.

Stop letting your children run amok in places they shouldn't be i.e., the casino, solarium, etc.

The ship is not your personal daycare, make your children behave.

People who think "the wash your hands" signs are suggestions.

Lastly people who get upset over not being able to do something: i.e., not get in the DL, SL, sitting in spaced off the Key, D+, Pinnacle or suite seats. Just the overall lack of awareness and entitlement.

experienced this last cruise in a junior suite. Unfortunately we had a adjoining room and someone in that room constantly opened and slammed doors, like numerous times. Even worse they have their balcony door open and open and shut the state room door WHAM!!!
