Surprise OBC?

Logged in to the cruise planner for an upcoming cruise and both my cabin and my in-laws have $50 in OBC.  Never had OBC since we booked and made cruise planner reservations, but it pooped in there sometime between Thanksgiving and Christmas.  Anyone else seeing this?  I’m all for free money, but not sure why we have it.

When is you cruise and has anything been cancelled?

I checked all of mine and they have the OBC I started with or none.

It’s in the next 1 to 3 months, but all my purchases are still there.  We’ve not used any OB and never had any OBC since booking, so what we have is “new money”.  We had this happen before and never figured out where it came from the either.

Did you use a travel agent? It may have come from them.

did you book at Next Cruise? It would be from them if you did.

we used MEI, but I think we booked this on our own and then moved it to MEI.  There was not any OBC when we booked and MEI typically doesn’t give OBC and our TA hasn’t mentioned it, it’s just weird that it showed up.

not a big deal, just curious.  When this happened in the past a lot of fellow board users were seeing it and no one really had an answer then either.

This exact same thing happened to us for our upcoming Anthem cruise in April but curiously just on just one of our two rooms, the one booked for DH and DS. Nothing on the one booked for me. Usually I book independently and then transfer to my MEI agent but in this particular case Royal's website was having a tantrum and I emailed her and she booked it for me.

I check the planner daily and one day the $50 just showed up. No idea why. I wondered if perhaps it might be casino related as DH hit over 100 points on our last cruise for the very first time or if, perhaps, our agent had been able to move that room into a group booking (I think I read somewhere that might generate some OBC). Both scenarios would potentially explain why the OBC only went to that room but this is all speculation on my part.

I haven't questioned it any further but spent it during the BF sale just in case it decided to disappear as mysteriously as it appeared! 😂

The agent probably pulled it into a consortia group, free OBC for you! I do this all the time for clients, and I don't even necessarily tell them because if the OBC doesn't show up then it looks bad. But it's a nice surprise for most people!

So that's where that $50 came from! I was delighted to find it and used it towards my Voom package and scored it for a grand total of $45 for my 6 day cruise on Jewel in Feb. 🤑

I believe @MarySmentioned in her live blog that she also got some free OBC that she did not know where it came from.  This happened back in November.

Yup I logged into the cruise planner on Black Friday and this notice popped up saying I had a $50.00 OBC that had to be used on the cruise planner only (basically use it or lose it).  I didn't even read the whole notice I booked the Coco Cay Beach Club for my Anthem Christmas cruise and used the OBC so fast because my luck it would disappear if I didn't.  Still have no clue where the OBC came from.

@Sharlais that where my $50.00 credit came from for my Dec 18th Anthem cruise?  If it was THANKS!  I had a great time at the Coco Cay Beach Club.

I booked online then transferred to an agent. I got a $50 onboard credit and asked her and she said it was from the travel agency. But she messed up. Told me I would get $100 if I transferred to her, but she was wrong. Only get $100 if she booked it.  But that is OK. $50 is good with me.
