If you're going to wear socks, you might as well go for the sandals ..... Make a fashion statement.

White socks on formal night is just uncouth! :4_joy:

Unless it's after Easter but before Labor Day.

To the gym that I always pack the socks for and tell myself I will use but never actually do.

The gym on the Allure is small compared to other non Oasis class ships. Too much equipment & small facility. It's like 10 lbs of stuff crammed in a 5 lb bag! We went once last year and decided not to do that again. There is a nice outdoor running, walking or crawling (if your have over used your drink package) on deck 5.

Oh! Kind of bummed to hear that - we were hoping to visit several times to offset the effects of cruising and drink packages.

I actually thought the gym was fine especially mid afternoon. It's not as nice as those with the floor to ceiling windows at the front of the ship, but I didn't feel it was too small.

I have a feeling the gym will be one of those "okay lets do this right after coffee or it ain't happening" kind of things.

Yeah, well my cure for the  "effects" was to eat and drink healthy. I ate plenty of protein (and I mean plenty!), pigged out on desserts only on weekday nights dinner and started the day off with bloody mary or three! Oh yes, and I did a daily affirmation every morning that I promised to go to the gym when I got back home.

If you are doing a b2b, do you have to get off the ship between cruises and remove all your stuff?

You do have to get off the ship to clear Customs, but you are escorted back onboard before general boarding commences. You do not need to remove your belongings, but you must take your paperwork (e.g., proof of citizenship with you). If you're a different cabin, the stewards will help you move that morning.

DW is packing now, we leave Saturday on Rhapsody for our longest trip yet.... 23 days:52_fearful:. B2B 14+7+2. For me, I take all old underwear and socks, along with those nice neat packets of new ones(enough for the trip). Throw away the old ones as you go, at the end there's a lot less to pack to come home. On cold weather trips you can wear a couple layers getting onboard to help.

At least this trip will be all warm weather, so it will be a bit easier. Sometimes you had to get in the shower with a couple pair of under wear and socks and hand wash them with bar soap, wring them out and hang on the little string.

I have a digital fish scale I use to weigh our luggage before leaving. It turns out to be very accurate. Get those checked bags in at or under 50lbs.

Thanks DocLC, figure we better sail on the Rhapsody before it goes the way of the Dodo. We even get our 140 crystal block on this T/A.

Klaconqueso, laxed weight limits makes it a lot easier for you to bring things home with you. When we dispose of 14 days worth of underwear and socks, we can bring home more STUFF!!!!!!

kla,

Isn't this your honeymoon cruise? If it is, hubby only needs underwear, 1 pair of shoes, 5 pairs and pants and shorts, 7 tee shirts, one dress shirt and then you get the rest of his luggage space. That was why you are getting married, for the extra luggage room.

Guys, really black and white socks with sandals, shame on you! Attractive, huh!!!!

Hello, cruising fans! Long time, no see! (Mostly, I've just been avoiding the urge to book something before October)

In October, I'll be spending two weeks on board Allure of the Seas (B2B)!! I've never spent longer than 5 days on a cruise ship, so this will be a very different experience for me. I also imagine packing will take a little bit more strategy. I know the usual tips (over the door hanger, magnets, etc), but I was wondering if cruising veterans might have any additional advice on things to pack for longer trips that less experienced cruisers may not consider on a long cruise?

Hello!  This is my first post and wanted to say hello.  I've been reading your posts and you seem very knowledgeable on all things Royal Caribbean :)

My family and friends are also headed to the Allure in October!  Western Caribbean Oct 22nd.  I'll certainly rely on your expertise.  Do you know of any great posts to follow for our upcoming trip? I'm travelling with two little ones 8 and 5 and wanted info on the Adventures Oceans itnerary if you know of anyone.

Thanks and hopefully we'll be able to meet live and say hello!

Make sure the kids go the first night to meet everyone at Adventure Ocean. It should be open from 8-10 p.m.. There will also an open house and registration period the afternoon of embarkation.

There are themes every day with various activities. They also have a pajama night. A schedule of events will be in your room for the kids. Programming on sea days is from 9-12, 2-5, and 7-10, with after hours programming available at around $7.50 per hour. There is a PJ night near the end of the cruise, and they also have kids dinners where the kids can eat with other kids and the staff from 6-7. My son enjoys it, but we let him only do it once as they only serve pizza and french fries and I want him to eat better than that.

Enjoy your cruise.

We do 30 - 40 days with a small carry-on roller bag and a backpack - no checking bags.  We fly business or first so we get on first and the bags will always have a home in the overhead. We also roll on and off the ship.  That way we know what we take arrives with us and doesn't get wet. If, on the longer fly to trips, we need containers more than 3 oz, we will check a toiletries/meds bag if we cannot buy in-country prior to boarding.  While we can lose the toiletries, we can't lose the clothes.  I will not show up in the on-board shops clothing. We try NOT to pack any cotton.  Bulky and heavy. Everything for cruises is synthetics.  Haggar Pro poly non-wrinkle trousers, polyester knit collar shirts, and synthetic skivvies for me and my wife gets synthetic dresses, tops, and everything else.  Packets of Tide will wash anything in the sink and there is a dry line on the shower.  Shirts can go into the laundry.  Even on the Europe trips, where it gets cold, we layer synthetics.  Occasionally, we may throw some jeans in but they weigh a lot and take up precious space.  We usually wear those on. Rather take old Haggars. We have taken shoes that were nearing their end and left these on the ship - probably some of the crew are wearing a lot of our left items.  Once in a blue moon I'll take a Tux but it's a hassle and we cruise to have fun and explore new places, not provide runway models for fashionistas.  A lot of my bag weight is for the pins and buttons I create for the cruise.  In the earlier days of our cruising, we used to take a large suitcase and a small roller each.  No mas.  Life is short. Go and have fun and pack lightly for it.
