NYC and Bayonne ports fill that need. LI is 118 miles long! Further east on the south shore (not the LI Sound side)... just kidding anyway! Would never happen with all of the major beaches, the Great South Bay, and all of the barrier islands on the south shore. Also too exposed to storms.
