Street
On the ship its a good thing, off ship... I prefer to use a smartphone card holder that is on the back of my phone.
Ditchdoc
I look nerdy enough with out also looking like I am at a convention. I have managed to keep up with my license, credit cards, folding money, professional cards and more my entire life with out hanging them around my neck so I do not really see why I should start doing that while on a cruise. Just my opinion. WAAAYTOOO
ChessE4
The real tip for us was when we discovered the waterproof lanyards designed for phones. We use them for our ID, cash, & Sea Pass when we go on excursions. We don't fully trust lockers in resort areas. Of course, on the ship, you don't need a wallet (maybe a few $$ for casino or cash tips for "free" drinks), but yes, I'd vote for a lanyard as long as you also get a larger, water-proof plastic sleeve. ChessE4
PS. Pickpockets are a real issue in some ports, but that is another topic....
Mr. Candyman
Since this topic was revived, does anyone know if they still hand out lanyards for the kids in Adventure Ocean?
bhageerah
Used a lanyard, love a lanyard, only time I won't use one is when we use WOW bands other than that add one more as a lanyard lover!

What kind of waterproof lanyards did you buy? I'm looking for a good one & we leave in 2 weeks. I'm nervous about ther excursions as well! Bob_KY
Lanyard believer; one that has additional slots for cash and other IDs. By our stateroom door, I place a magnetic hook/clip. When we enter, they get hung up. When departing, it is by the door. Also, it is a visual signal when my wife or I leave our seapass card in the slots. recre8di and FoxboroCruiser
FoxboroCruiser
While I don't love the way the lanyard looks, I do love the functionality. My wife and kids didn't want them when I handed each a lanyard, but within a day or two they all wore them, all the time. For us, not having to worry that things have fallen out of our pockets, or that we'd left something behind helps the overall relaxation process. Pros far outweigh the cons. whitsmom

I'm nervous about ther excursions as well! We got it at a duty free store, but it was designed for cell phones You had a seal (like a sandwich bag), then snaps that folded over the seal. We use it when we both swim together in a pool or ocean (we don't leave sea pass at our chair), and we use it on excursions (tucked under my shirt if we are exposed to water). My wife says she has seen them on Amazon listed as waterproof phone holders. There is no brand logo on hers, and the plastic is somewhat soft (vinyl). Some on Amazon are as low as 7.99 for two. MPOW "Universal Waterproof Case". Something you could check into.
recre8di
@ChessE4 Thank you for the advice! I will look into it. We are thinking of doing a lazy river tour and don't want to leave our stuff out and about. I appreciate it!
ericgoodwin
I feel lanyards are necessary for 100% tourist mode

Pima1988
I hate the lanyards especially if you have a long cruise. You sweat around the neck, and your sunscreen will melt into it, and of course add in cologne you may spray on while you are walking out of your cabin. It can be nasty by day 7 on a Caribbean cruise. We do the phone option (pocket on the back). We take our phone everywhere so in our eyes why carry 2-3 things (lanyard, wallet and phone) when 1 will do just fine. To me lanyards are like getting an inside or balcony cabin. It is personal to that passengers desires. We did it 1x and will not ever do it again, but that is just us. FYI my husband and I must wear them for work, so it might be that when we are on vacation we want nothing to remind of us of being at work. WannaCruise
I tend to wear a waterproof pouch as I carry more than my sea pass around. The pouch lets me hold onto the cruise compass, small digital camera, eye glass strap, sunscreen plus sea pass. deep1
For years I did ok without them. First time I saw them I rolled my eyes... "Another money grab..." GF got us each one and I hang my head in shame at my earlier snobbishness. Used it whole last cruise and just picked up a couple more for the kids we'll be bringing next time... KimS
This looks pretty flashy! It’s just something to wear around your neck & show off to people you don’t even know! But if you’ve got it insured- Hey, Go for it!
