tonyfsu21
Thinking about a Southern Caribbean cruise on Explorer in March 2023 but only if she’s AMPED. Does anyone know if there is still a plan in place to start dry dock in January? Google is not my friend regarding this topic. TIA
KristiZ
Looks like she'll be in drydock for all of February, but I suspect that will be only regular maintenance. I don't think that's enough time for AMPing. tonyfsu21

smokeybandit
I can't imagine any ship gets AMPed during any drydock the next couple years.
WAAAYTOOO
I am booked on EX twice for the southern Caribbean route (ABC) - once in Jan and once in April. Both are casino comps. Not sure what amenities you may be looking for, but I will take the much lower prices, excellent itineraries and casino comp availability every time ! No waterslides, etc. but we don't do those things anyway. If you have need of such things then I can certainly understand it. USFFrank
Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't Explorer of the Seas have its dry dock maintenance done in 2020? https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/2020/06/09/explorer-of-the-seas-will-get-limited-dry-dock-august
nate91
It was supposed to. I was on one of the last pre-pandemic sailings on Explorer, she was supposed to get AMPd AND have the maintenance done right after my Feb cruise. I suppose both those things were cancelled? Yep, my kids are spoiled by the Oasis class amenities and I am completely outnumbered. WAAAYTOOO
Zac Young
Looking to go on explorer for Greece trip in July 2023.. will it even be worth it after her dry dock? That’s a decent time off for work to be done, wondering if they’ll do a lot of amping without big water slide additions, etc. wouldn’t be hard to change some themes of restaurants or do lime & coconut on deck with new chairs/cabanas. Pooch
IMO, Explorer needs seriously expanded bar areas. I know harmony spoiled me but these bars are TINY and the chairs are uncomfortable. Maybe that’s to ensure you don’t stay long?!?!
mac66
Just got off an Explorer ABC cruise yesterday. It's still in pretty good shape. My understanding is that carpet and decor will be changed as well as some maintenance. They are also putting in a Playmakers bar on the promenade in place of some of the stores. It was a good cruise, we enjoyed the ship as it was but having a big sports bar would have been nice what with some big college football games and the world cup soccer thing going on. need2cruz

If you're cruising to Greece, the ship doesn't really matter at all to be honest! Explorer will have more than enough to keep you busy after port days. On my Greece cruise, we were so tired after being in port all day, every day that we usually just ate dinner and hung out in the Solarium a bit before bed.
