Quick question, first time cruiser have been offered drinks package at reasonable rate not a very heavy drinker worth it or not.   Thanks

So much detail missing from here to offer any kind of reasonable feedback.

  • What are you considering a "reasonable rate"?
  • What does "worth it" mean to you?
  • What is "not a heavy drinker"?

General consensus is 5-6 drinks per day, every day, is needed to break even on the Deluxe Beverage Package. If you can meet or exceed this, then financially speaking you'll spend less on the package versus per-drink.

I also am not much of a drinker (alcohol) but I do drink plenty of water, fresh squeezed orange juice, specialty coffees, even a few frozen mocktails every day.  My choice is to purchase the refreshment package and then pay for any alcoholic drinks.  I definitely get the full advantage of the low price (currently $19.99/day) but also get to enjoy a glass of wine here and there!

Same here. I had a total of 3 beers my last cruise, but took full advantage of the refreshment package. Also, once you get past your “first cruise” and reach gold, there are usually a few drink coupons you can take advantage of if your not a big drinker. Usually a few 50% off coupons for beer and wine which is normally enough for me.

I did the math for package price of $67.99/day - 5 mixed drinks or 9 beers/seltzers per day (or any combination of them keeping in mind drinks are $14 ea. and beers/seltzers are $7.50-$8.00 ea.)  That is just essentially breaking even.  If you get coffee, soda, water bottles, smoothie, non-alcoholic (virgin) drinks, etc. those are all bonuses.  Port days this can be tough unless you like to get back on board early and don't mind closing down the bar past midnight.

I drink high proof bourbon at home so over the course of an afternoon and evening, 5 whiskey drinks are OK to me.  If you are not a frequent drinker of the higher proof stuff, think about whether you really want to drink that much and if you will be functional afterwards.

For most, buying the non-alcohol drink package for $20/day and then a la carte purchases of an adult beverage when you want one works for most people.

Many thanks for your response, black Friday deal 59 dollars per day 12 nights total, around 3/4 beers a day, also enjoy specialised coffee's,  may wait till closer till cruising day see if the offer comes down.   Thanks.

You don't want to wait closer to the cruise for price drops, that almost rarely happens. Book at a price you are comfortable with. If it is mostly beers on a 12n I would book the refreshment package and pay out of pocket for the beers. If your ship has a Playmakers, you can get a pitcher for like $20, some bars will also sell you a bucket of 4-6 for around that price.

You're not hitting $59/day with this kind of spending. Ditch the drink package and go pay drink-to-drink.

Famous last words. The Black Friday sale pricing holds the same logic as every other day on the Cruise Planner: If you can afford the currently published price, buy it now, and assume the price will go up tomorrow. If the price drops in the future, you can always cancel, refund, and re-buy at the lower price.
