Chewie
Sailing in December on Oasis of the Seas in a balcony stateroom. I received an invitation to Royal Up. Here is my question: Do the minimum bid offers for Royal Up ever change the closer it gets to the sailing date or will they remain the same? USFFrank
I don't recall them lowering the minimum bid, at least on the cruises I've been on. But I have heard of people just bidding the minimum and actually winning the stateroom upgrade. RCIfan1912, KristiZ and Chewie
smokeybandit
I have seen them lower the minimum bid, but that was during a special RU promo at the start of the year. There's probably no reason for them to offer such a promo now. RCIfan1912, WAAAYTOOO, Chewie and 2 others

Mike n Ky
Does timing matter on RUs? Better to get in line first with an early bid? I plan on bidding for a GS from a JS in January. RCIfan1912

The most important criteria that we think we know is maximum revenue. However in a scenario where multiple bids equate to the same revenue what we don't know is how a tie-breaker is decided. Is it possible the early bid breaks the tie? Sure! Maybe. We don't know and Royal isn't telling. It could be surname or it could be some random value that means something only to a coder at PlusGrade. But with most pricing I’ve seen if you’re doing anything in the upper part of the range you probably should have just booked the higher category to begin with since the price would be similar (but without the benefits of booking that category originally, if any, when done through RoyalUp). I am on Oasis for first 2 weeks in December. We are in Jr Balcony and have not rec'd any RoyalUp offers. Often just certain classes of cabins. Gears
Just notified we were upgraded (RoyalUp) on our Nov 26th, 5 night Mariner cruise from a deck 2 ocean view to a deck 12 panorama ocean view. Won on the minimum bid of $35/pp. Basically, crap shoot and your mileage may vary. Cactus527, WAAAYTOOO, Neesa and 8 others 8 2

The new room we are assigned to is 191 sqft and that certainly beats the 161 sqft ocean view room we were in. And an ocean view balcony is 198 sqft, so not much different. Some of the panoramic ocean view staterooms can be oddly shaped due to being on the curve of the front of the ship. Our newly assigned room is rectangular according to the deck plans. LCWind
We stayed in that cabin class on Voyager last month. Roomy and large floor to ceiling windows gave you nice views.

Then I saw it was barely bigger, so it was smaller than I thought it would be. I hate front of ship and I was on the curve, so it was an odd shaped room. WAAAYTOOO
I just received the most unbelievable RU offers (21 Jan 23, 8 night Southern Caribbean on EX). Never have I seen a bid for the Royal Suite LESS than for a JS !! I am currently in a 4B (Oceanview Balcony) and this is a completely comped casino cruise - so my current cruise fare for this is $-0-. My bid minimums are: JS - $135 PP GS - $170 PP 2 BR GS - $320 PP OS - $90 PP RS - $105 PP Now, I fully realize that the chances of the RS RU are -0- since there's just the one and it's booked and it's past final payment date....but wow ! Never seen a min bid that low for a RS !! There are also -0- JS showing available, which tends to explain why that one is relatively high compared to some of the other, higher level suites, which have very good availability at the moment. There are currently 9 OS available, 4 2BR GS and 10+ GS. That $90 OS min looks pretty good ! I bid on all of the offers with a very aggressive bid on the OS. Since my current cruise fare was $0, I can afford to bid quite a bit on this RU offer and still come out waaay ahead. All of this coming from someone who has NEVER won a RU bid ! Wish me luck ! The Fox
When we got back from our cruise 1 day ago I was checking my email (no access on cruise) and I had a RU for a Grand Suite (we were in JR Suite) and the price had been scratched through and lowered. asquared17 and RCIfan1912

Brett_FL
Does getting a RU offer depend on wether you booked directly with RCCL or through a TA?
Ampurp85
2 hours ago, Brett_FL said: Does getting a RU offer depend on wether you booked directly with RCCL or through a TA? Yes, in some cases, some places do not participate. But also, not every room will qualify: if you are in a high enough suite, options are limited, also if the ship has solo cabins, the option might not be available. PhilandSteff
Just to add another point of data to all this - We signed up late (October) for a GTY JS on Allure for 12/11/22. We got a RoyalUp offer for a GS, OS, and the Crown Loft (L1?) a few days after signup. I made just above the minimum bids (that were admittedly high since they we so late) on all three, with an extra $200 laid on the Crown Loft. We had no room assignment at all until last night, when the RoyalUp went through, and we were assigned a Crown Loft and had won the bid. So, we off to the races in an L1 suite (first time for one of those) for about 1/2 overall prices of what they had been asking this late before sailing. I'm going to call it a win!
