Will there be Harmony before an Odyssey? Nov 7th-12th, Nov 13th-19th

Disembarkment.....

I scheduled the latest departure so that I would have a better chance of checking in early. I went to breakfast at 7:30 in the MDR and the line was long. I got through about 15min later and ordered breakfast even more minutes after that. Breakfast was good, I requested crispy bacon and sausage and that's what I got. I still can't figure out why that random tomato always shows up.

So originally C&A members were supposed to be able to depart from deck 4, this wasn't the case. After breakfast I headed to Cafe Promenade for chamomile and then got in line to disembark. At close to 9am the ship was still full. I would say it took a total of 25min start to finish. I then went to the rideshare area. I waited 20min for ride and made it to the hotel around 10min to 10am. It was a madhouse of people leaving for cruises. I am excited for them.

Luckily they had a room available and a couple of minutes after I made it to my room. My brother texted to let me know they were seated on the plan and waiting for takeoff. Hotel is nice and clean. Staff are very friendly, area is decent.  You can hear the planes taking off.

I am going into the Odyssey sailing with positive vibes. Despite the tone of my post I am in fact fun to be around. I think I make good jokes and I can go with the flow. However, I was raised with manners and respect. While I tried to view this Harmony sailing without restart goggles, it's hard. Those of us who cruised before the pandemic and during the restart have had a completely different experience prior to the ramp up.

I am really excited for Odyssey,  she is my first quantum class. I hope to try Northstar,  bumper cars and the virtual adventure. I am sure Playmakers will take lots of money 🤣.

@Neesa Thank you, I try to be honest.

I had some fun, lots of it in fact. It was just a lot of hangry/thirsty days. I mean 2 days without my Fanta zero peach, or Sprite Zero grape made me sad 🤣. I think quality and service in the buffet, MDR or anywhere should be on par with specialty restaurants.  On my last sailing before the shutdown, I ate in the MDR 3/4 nights because the food and service were amazing. It was okay after the restart even in Jan/Feb, but something has happened after that.

Also let's be honest I have spent good money with Royal since the restart. I have done sky, star, regular suites on smaller ships and mostly solo, with only one casino comp that I upgraded. I love cruising, I love Royal but everything won't be perfect. I don't expect it to be, I do expect a clean room and cooked food.

I think you seem like a ton of fun to be around and your jokes actually make me laugh out loud. You are appreciated by people you don’t even know, don’t let anyone take that from you…

I too have been baffled by the burnt tomato. When DD was a toddler, she noticed it on my plate and shrieked “mommy, don’t eat that! They didn’t even wash off the dirt from the garden!” Ahh kids… also good for a laugh.

I am praying Odyssey is a totally different experience. I sail on her for NYE and have Harmony in March so we’ll see how they compare after yours!

I am relieved you are in a nice hotel getting a breather before your next cruise! I am so sorry you had such a challenging cruise. As I was reading your posts and just finishing up my own not so ideal cruise, I could not help but compare pre and post COVID experiences. It def feels like Royal has a different standard, but also so many people in general. I cannot believe some of the things you wrote about (not that you wrote them, but that they did them); leaving trash around, the incredibly poor manners, not tipping. Thankfully, you still managed to have positive times each day, even if it was bread from heaven or being up $20 at the casino! It is what got me through, too. I feel positive for your next cruise. I hope you get some rest and that your loved ones give you space as well as living together time.
I look forward to hearing a more positive review soon! Def not because you sound down or negative, but because I truly hope it is a great and rejecting time! An experience that will give back real hope and confidence in Royal of old! And, I am sure you are fun to be around! Don’t let what anyone says get to you. You are providing an honest review and I would cruise with you!
    Have a peaceful day!

I'm headed back on Harmony on the 26th (Went once back in 2018). Hopefully it's not as rough of a time as you had! Hope Odyssey treats you well though I'd love to go on it one day. Thank you for your posts though they were thoroughly entertaining and although some negatives, has me looking forward to 2 weeks from now!

Here she is, on the way to get @Ampurp85.  Do treat yourself to the bumper cars, they were an absolute blast!

I forgot are you in a suite? CK is next to WJ on this ship, the venue here is very nice and intimate, I liked it better then the specialty dining venues.

The WJ also seemed a bit prettier then  WJ's on the Oasis class.

Thank you all for the well wishes, I am beyond excited.

The weather is a beautiful 75 and breakfast was hilarious.

My family got in a bit late, they waited on the wrong side of the terminal for the shuttle and ended up at the Fairfield downtown. They got an Uber to the right one and made it here around 5pm. Everyone was staving so we had a gourmet meal of salads and chicken sandwiches from Wendy's. We chatted a bit and I told them about my Harmony experience, they said it was because they weren't with me.

I took my allergy meds and went to bed; we all woke up around 6am and then headed to breakfast. The menu was continental with eggs, sausage and make your own waffles available. Since it was 7 of us, we got the big table. This "vintage" gentlemen decide to sit at our table, I believe it held 10. He was chatting with us and telling us about the 7N Holland American cruise he just got off. He was flirting hard with my BFFs mom, she was laughing.......then his wife came, and she hit him with her bag. We all said, "hi and good morning" and she just rolled her eyes, she then dragged him to the breakfast area and made him fix her a plate of food and carry her purse. As soon as she left after eating he came right back and started chatting again. They do give breakfast mimosas, which was very nice. They charge $20pp to take you to the cruise port, which is ridiculous. We plan to do two rideshares and leave at 11, if check-in had not been pushed back, we would be leaving at 10. I know some people will be there early and not follow the rules. I have 3 slightly vintage women with me, I don't want them getting hangry and regular angry with the waiting.

One of our party was waitlisted for MTD, so I believe we will try to change to traditional dining at 8pm. I have 2 dining reservations to make and plan to book all the shows, NorthStar, bumper cars etc. We have obstructed balconies on deck 6, not next to each other but in a row.

Countdown is about 2hrs.

OMG if I didn't know for sure my dad was in Delaware I would swear Mr. Vintage was him! He is 80 next month and when/if we go anywhere all of us kids keep a keen eye on him. He flirts with every lady in the room, it's so embarrassing. His wife (not my mom) puts up with it because it means he is leaving her alone to shop/eat/gossip whatever on her own. In addition being born in the 1940's let's just say he has NO FILTER. He does not understand sometimes what he says is less than appropriate. 🤦‍♀️ Simply put he believes he is the life of the party, laughs at all his jokes and honestly sometimes I want to dive under the table and I am in the 50+ age range.

I mean I love that he get's out and enjoys the heck out of life, when/if he is in the hospital for any health issues we always go in apologizing to the nurses way ahead of time, this post again made me laugh out loud!

And no, I will not, can not sail with him...nope, nada, never happening. But again good for those Vintages they are living their best life!

@Ampurp85 Thanks for the Harmony report. It's really interesting how the dynamic on every cruise can be so different. I know how some of the short12er ones can be wild with a "booze cruise" type mentality and a DGAF mood of some passengers, but you usually don't see that on the longer ones.

I also agree that when the food stinks, or doesn't meet expectations that can really ruin a week for you as well. I bet it was super frustrating after having done everything as far as making reservations etc, to then have to wait longer for the ones that didn't before getting your seat, and then having just mreh food come out makes it that much worse.

....and seriously...... @AshleyDillo WHO EATS THE TOMATO!!??!!

Like others have said, I would love to sail with you some time! We are a good bunch in my family, and I think our personalities would gel. @Lovetocruise2002 could attest to that.

I laughed so hard about your "vintage" table guest, he sounded very fun!

Have a great time on Odyssey, Northstar is really cool, and who doesn't love bumper cars! You should try a suite on quantum class some time. @Lovetocruise2002 and I agree that the CK on Quantum Class is the best. It is a really nice atmosphere. The CK in Anthem so far has the best food (granted my sample size is still small) but it was way better in July, than it was in February on Oasis. I'll be back on Oasis shortly so I will have an update soon.

Good luck keeping your "vintage" ladies from getting hangry/angry

Before we left the hotel Mr "vintage" made sure to give my BFF mom an arm squeeze and a goodbye. I called Royal to figure at what terminal Odyssey would be at and they had no idea. I guessed terminal 18 and I was right. We left at 11am and made it to the terminal about 20min later. They had just started boarding 11am and we made it through in like 5 min. That's when things came to a grinding halt. It is 12:20 and even star class Is sitting waiting to board. We are pretty high up but the terminal is almost full with guest waiting. Lots of people are shocked to still see so many of us waiting. I hope boarding starts soon.

This is not a drill, we are on the ship.

They started boarding around 12:30 and we made it aboard 15min later. Odyssey is beautiful,  its definitely still new. We made our dining reservations,  headed to eMuster and made so show reservations.  I was able to book Northstar for 10am on PDCC morning for free. The esplanade is a bottleneck but man is everything real purty.......

Staff are so friendly, we headed to El Loco Fresh and enjoy them delicious tacos.......several people had seconds. I have the most important announcement....... the have strawberry softserve,  you can get a strawberry twist or swirl as I call them. I had a mango daiquiri and it was so good. I signed my receipt for the diamond vouchers but it didn't say how many drinks. I am currently on my way to the stateroom.

So far the people have been way more respectful.

They have the canned mineral water. At close to 4pm almost 600 people still hadn't completed eMuster. I found out there are several large family groups traveling on this cruise.  One of a group of 150. Lots of people wearing matching shirts.........my family likes the idea until the shirts come. There was also a family of like 49 folks all in white, they were brave.

The vintages are a full mess. They text each other and add Odyssey to everything. Like "meet me at the Odyssey MDR, the Odyssey sports deck, etc." Also their font is definitely set to 42 or 60. So everyone with decent eyesight can see what they are texting. Every few minutes they ask what we are doing and whens dinner. I tell them to go eat but then they say they just checking. We did a walk through of the casino and the game selection is very limited. I hope to find a good machine later.

Drinks have been good, says my BFF and brother. The obstruction is not too bad but also not good. I think we will stick to suites when traveling with family,  it makes things easier. There are only 2 shows on Odyssey and the rest are comedian or headliners. Bumper cars are first come, first serve. I have never been on a newer ship so I can't get over how new everything looks. So far we all have had 2 very "vintage " gentlemen hit on us. The first was " which one of you beautiful ladies want to take a chance on an old lonely man?" The other I couldn't hear over the music at first but BFF mom said he tried it. Lots of people keep sitting their babies at bars, I don't know why that's weird to me but it is. I have to say services at bars are slow,  no rhyme or reason to how they serve people.  In Playmakers we stood for 15min and never got acknowledged. Sat at the table longer and they never came over. We left. I was looking forward to so wings. I know it's the first day flustercuck.

i am so thankful to hear this about the water. i'm DOWN for the mineral water. i don't care if that makes me bougie. i just didn't want dasani or something equal to that.

the shirts,,,, i am always fascinated by this choice. not that i think there's anything wrong with it, just that i probably wouldn't advertise who i was with/why/when. it makes me think of summer camp, somehow. but holy cannoli, a famil of 150.  W O W E E.

the vintages i'm CACKLING. at first i thought you were referring to the wine bar and i was thinking, i thought she just left vintages on harmony, didn't realize there was also one on odyssey as well. and then it caught up to me and i'm still laughing about it.

my cousin lives near the UK and she says some folks just refer to older generations as the "olds." not meant to be disrespectful -- but i think i prefer vintages, all the same. 😆

also, adding 'odyssey' to everything i CANNOT BREATHE 🤣 godspeed, friend. i'm fairly certain you have the patience of a saint!!!!!

eta: thank you for sharing pics of your cabin + the view!! also WOW the ship is sparkly!! i am glad to hear she is still looking and feeling new. we are excited to be sailing on her next month, so you are giving us the real sneak peek!!

Here's what I will say, first impressions of the people on this cruise are great.  There are lots of families. Everyone is excited to be here and have mostly been respectful......not necessarily to their bodies but to others. I don't know why every cruise someone's something falls out of their barely there clothes.

We walked around looking at things and collecting drinks. Somehow we ended up at WJ.....well we wanted to use their bar. The placed looked beautiful and bountiful, so I snapped a couple of photos. Then I saw bbq brisket and sticky ribs. Since I didn't get my wings I was like I could have a taste. Then I saw freshly made donut bites......like munchkins. With various dipping sauces. All of it was really good. I am sure Royal uses the same food quality across ships but the chefs preparation is what changes things. They had a charcuterie station that my brother picked through.....good bountiful cheeses and spreads. We felt guilty because we really only went to get actual bar service but ended up snacking.

Then there was a huge kerfuffle. My mom was gossiping and left her phone in the bathroom.  She made it to her room before she realized that mistake. Mom's BFF called me. She was confused about the bathroom and spent 30min going up and down into bathrooms. I asked what was she doing before the bathroom and she was on deck 15 watching sail away.  I took her to that bathroom and it was there. She nearly had a heart attack.

We didn't leave until close to 6 and around 7 the casino opened up. Weirdly no one was smoking on the smoking side and everyone was on the non-smoking. I played for a while and am up $23. My BFF brother and mother were there with me, he turned his $20 into $50 and cashed out. She lost $20. They both were fascinated by this lady and her casino ritual.  It was hilarious. When she hit the bonus feature she stood in chair and danced. Then she started it but she would hit the machine with the palm of her hand and say something in polish. Her friends were egging her on. She got up and danced a lot, also her hands should be dead with the force she used to hit the screen. She tripled her money but she had started with $18.

We had dinner at 8 which was right across the hall. Service was a little bad and majorly slow. The waiter actually forgot to take my order, this is why a little bad. However the assistant waiter was on it and we took care of him. I got a Moscato with dinner and it was very flat....but I am spoiled by Jamie's Moscato. So maybe that was the taste of that brand. Dinner tasted good but most of the food came out incorrect. My mother was supposed to get the southern fried chicken no gravy. Her BFF order the same with rice instead of mash and two corns. BFF mom got salmon and double mash. It was rice on my mother's plate. Two mash on her BFF plate, double corn on a random third fried chicken dinner. It was funny how mixed up everything was. Also we sat down at 8:10 and it was almost 9:40 before we got entrees. Way after 10pm before we left. We took a bunch of photos against the moving wall and retired to our rooms for the evening.

Oh.... the escargot was greenish.

Up next is PDCC and Northstar.

Well, not exactly wonderful, but sooo much better! Outside of dinner and some slow issues, it def sounds like a better and more good comical start! Flirty vintages much better than no bathing neighbors yelling or kids licking tables. Sorry about the canned water, though. I know this is going to be a great cruise for you guys!! Have an awesome-o time!!!

Today for the most part was a very good day not including the casino.

I am mad about the casino, so I need to vent that right away. One of the machines malfunctioned and everyone knows that in that case everything is void. I lost $400. If I lost that playing oh well, that's me, but to not even HAVE played was beyond anger and disappointment. I was almost on the verge of tears.

Back to the program.

We had breakfast around 8:45 in the WJ, it was congested but we were able to find a table for the 5 of us who decided to eat. My brother decided he would get in a workout instead and then meet us at the NorthStar for our 10am reservation.  My mother said she was saving her appetite for PDCC snack shack offerings. I don't understand why people can't eat breakfast and also eat at PDCC. My brother said a lady was berating her bf at the gym because he was more muscled than my brother but only doing 50lb weights, while my brother was doing 100lbs. This was even more embarrassing because they were part of the 10am NorthStar group. Sadly, 2 littles girls were left behind in the WJ, I found a crew member to take them to look for their parents because they were crying pretty hard. I understand not every adult feels comfortable assisting children: but how do you walk by after seeing 2 crying children in the middle of place, with no adults around?

We did NorthStar and it was like a sauna. Every one of us was dripping sweat......but when I came out my skin was glowing. The NorthStar was pretty cool, but I think it could be shorter, like maybe what it is, is that the novelty wears off fast and then you are like meh. We then went to change into out bathing suits and hit PDCC. I will admit this was the first time in like 20 years I have actually worn a bathing suit. I did feel self-conscious, but I am on vacation, and it was one that covered a lot. Water was warm because it was very warm, so we did a few laps around the island and got a chicken sandwich.

To be continued.

Hmm, I am feeling pretty upset after reading that post, I am so grateful you are relatively calm, at least now. I can’t believe they took away $400 from you!! I have yet to make it to the casino, so I do not know the rules, but doesn’t your card read your dollar amount?! How can they take your money like that?! What the heck?! Okay, you got your vent out, I hope it helps, I will be upset for you! I am so sorry that happened!

Big shout out to you for helping the kids!! Who knows, maybe they went to get a cookie and got lost finding their table. You took care of it, good for you!! Very nice!
Plus on getting a sauna facial at North Star! Awkward with that couple and your bro!
I hope you enjoyed PDCC and no real issues! You def are due nice times. Good for you for sporting the swimsuit! Like you said, you are in vacation, who cares what anyone thinks, you go have an awesome-o time!

So the staff on here have never been to PDCC, many were taking photos and living there best life. Oasis was here with us today and you felt every bit of her capacity on the island. The tram that takes people around the island were running every 30min and always full. The vintages don't like to walk much and they waited an hour for one. I had walked back, showered and played almost an hour before they made it back.

Now there have been a few internal issues. My mother feels like her BFF and my BFF mom have been ganging up on her. My mother has been my mother all my life........and all that time she has been a mess. She has an issue with honesty,  its because she like to lie to herself a lot. She made the other 2 buy matching/similar swimsuits. Then she had excuses why she couldn't wear hers. Instead of just saying I don't want to, she would say I need a shawl, they give her one. No I mean a cover-up,  give her one....etc. Then she turned into something and snapped on them but they laughed so it made her mad. I had to calm her down.

The other issue is that BFFs brother is looking for ladies and the vintages won't leave him alone,  he just got divorced and this is the first thing he has done for himself in like a decade.  They keep getting their feelings hurt when he wants to do young things.

The last issue was my brother was acting brand new. He has been drinking like a fish and not eating so I'm currently in his room as I type this watching over him while he is sick. My brother eats a lot and can drink. But for some odd reason he worked out  and didn't eat breakfast. Then we came back from PDCC at 12:45. He came down to the casino with me and was drinking Gentlemen Jack straight for almost 2hrs, I believe he had at least 14. I told him to eat, so we went to Sorrento's. As soon as he finished his pizza, he said he felt off. I sent him to room and when I came to check on him, the pizza was no longer inside.

I have never had issues with my reservations before this cruise. Giovanni's never allowed you to make reservations on app. So I made them with the host. Repeated the room numbers and confirmed names. Today it shows a reservation for 9 including 2 children.  I go see the host. I am the only person in line when 2 people walk in front of me. She takes care of them and tells me she will deal with reservations then me. That's not how it works, if I am next in line, you help me. She had 2 extra rooms assigned and both were wrong. I gave her right room numbers and she kept saying 5 guest and I kept say 7. I left after repeating it five times and then I got to the room and it says 5.

Ooh boooy. That’s sticky. I really hope your brother gets everything out of his system and feels better. And takes it a bit easier tomorrow. Not being judgey, just hope his body can recover easier. It is never easy when it comes to “internal issues.” I suppose my hope for you is that you can have quiet time for yourself and the times you are together, you are not hurt or stuck in the middle. Good luck to your BFF’s brother, too. … Maybe go to guest relations and change the reservation? Having to deal with the host again may just be too aggravating and fruitless. … I hope you get some rest and have a positive and peaceful tomorrow!

It looks like they have Dance Music with Grooves on Silk most starting at 10/11pm and the Odyssey Orchestra around 6:30/7pm.

Thanks for the info!  I was hoping for a cover band.  We seen Bon Jovi in the Music Hall on Ovation.  They put on a great show.  Enjoy the rest of your sailing! We will be the happy faces boarding on Saturday.

OK let's try this again.

My brother started feeling like his self around 8:30 so we made our way to the WJ. Tonight was Tex Mex and that's not my jam, but everyone else found plenty to nibble on. My brother had 3 huge plates to satisfy his 6'2" bone skinny physique. I think the reason the food quality seems nich better is that they are still using European ingredients.  Lots of the butter, water, soda, etc. Is the European brands. They have pepperoni pizza but the pepperoni is actual summer sausage.  Lots of confused children and teenagers.....also adults.  Summer sausage is a totally different taste than pepperoni.

By the time they finished eating it was time to head to the theater for Effectors. First I will say the theater on Odyssey is the smallest I have ever been in. Several family members commented about how there must be 2 theaters because this one looks to barely hold 500 people.  Any way in regards to the Effectors.......I........Don't........know!!!!

So I liked it but I didn't love it. We are big superhero people so we were extra spicy excited.  It didn't jibe well. So I LOVED all the technology and mixed media elements but songs, timing and cohesiveness wasn't there.

First Pixel had like fifty-eleven songs and she wasn't the business. Every one of the other Pixels outshines her. She had the lowest energy when doing the choreography and the song choices made no sense to what and who her character was. But the elements were cool.

With Reverb I was confused, he was a "Dj" but none of his sings popped.  Also was he an alien? I  felt like Captain Vis songs all should have been Reverbs.

We all loved Lume's elements but were really perturbed that her 3 songs were all about lights, like she swimming upside down in the air and doing the most but y'all didn't give her no bops???? Like everyone else songs didn't go with them but they had bops. Poor Lume!!

Lastly Captain Vis was really basic for his superpower was actually......stunningness. Also how the villain having better bops and charisma than the heroes? However his elements was popping! He had dancers with light suits that lit up with beats.  Techno music and bops, where he wasn't really doing much.

Also Crash was giving. He was giving vocals, hair, camp and drones. There was little exposition so I didn't understand what was really going on. So I am unsure, I might watch it again. I will say it was the most advanced and original of of all Royals shows.

After the show we walked around. The esplanade was a bottleneck and I  can see why people like the promenade way better. People have been leaving their dirty dishes in the elevator.  We did lots of people watching at Boleros, my BFF did some dancing but the rest of us just watched.

I am missing stuff but the vintages have me a little off. I will get everything.
