Embarkation port> San Juan Puerto Rico?

There is the Pan American port and the cruise port of call in Old San Juan.   Trying to determine which port Royal will use now, and which hotel is closest to that particular cruise port.   Closer to Airport vs closer to embarkation port?    Taking into account taxi fares, free shuttle service if any . Would prefer walking distance to port, but I dont think there is one.  Embassy suites is one mile from Airport.  Sheraton hotel and casino Old San Juan, Hyatt House, El Convento,   appreciate any advise, thx

I cruised out of San Juan back in November.  We used the pan American port and used uber/taxi to get around.

If you can afford it, old san juan was the place to be. Being a mere mortal, I stayed at an airbnb in isla Verde. It wasn't a bad place to stay. There were a limited number of restaurants within walking distance and a lovely beach.

I'm thinking the uber ride to the port was about  $20

San Juan is fairly compact and easy to get around when it comes to the touristy areas, so while your ship may leave out of Pan American, don't hesitate to stay on the beach or in Old Town. The ride from either to the pier is fairly short. Even the airport isn't that far away, but I definitely recommend either Old Town or beach-front for the hotel.

We've stayed at Decanter Hotel and enjoyed it.

We stayed at the comfort inn in Condado and at the Sheraton (Conference center/casino). Neither are far from the cruise port, but not walkable.  Easy to get a taxi at either place and the Sheraton had a shuttle. Not sure how close it would drop off to the port, but nice if you want to go to dinner or sight see while staying.   Condado had a lot of restaurants to walk to and the beach was very close (very rough waves). Comfort inn was cheaper, it was clean and had breakfast included.  The Sheraton was nicer and was more of a resort, with restaurants on site, large pool with pool bar/food, shuttle to various places, casino, and walking distance to Toroverde entertainment area (restaurants/music/arcade/theater), but more expensive. Both felt safe and both were nice in their own ways.

Last year we stayed at DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel San Juan.  We booked it through RCCL and included transfers.  The hotel was nice with a great breakfast.  We would stay here again but would Uber to the ship rather than RCCL transfers.  Uber would have been much quicker and cheaper than the transfers.  Good luck with your cruise.

We did two previous cruises out of San Juan, both times we just stayed at the Sheraton Old San Juan and took a cab to the port.  It is right across the street from the Old San Juan port, but that isn't the one RC uses for embarkation.  We arranged the cab ride early and added an extra hour to get to the port - the traffic getting the last couple of miles was really bad.

If you choose this option, seek out Finca Cialitos - FANTASTIC coffee.  Not a rush in, rush out type of place but well worth it.  Also, for breakfast, Chocobar Cortes.  Amazing breakfast.

We stayed at the San Juan Marriott Resort & Stellaris Casino. Very nice hotel with lots happening and right on the beach. Unfortunately when we were there last month it was quite windy and a little cool so we didn't go to the beach. Plenty of taxis right outside the door and about a 10 minute ride to the port.

Any additional input on places to stay for a cruise beginning in San Juan?

I stayed at Hotel Casablanca. We got in early and the hotel held our luggage for us until the room was ready. It's right in the heart of Old San Juan so real walkable to get to restaurants, bars and shopping.  It does get congested the morning of the cruise as everyone is trying to catch their rides to port and it's in an area with lots of one-way streets, so pro tip is to walk a few blocks down to the waterfront by the day use cruise terminal and catch your ride from over there over to the embarkation cruise terminal.

The day before the cruise we stayed at Courtyard by Marriott San Juan Miramar. We took an Uber to the Pam American Pier. It was maybe 10 mins away. After the cruise we stayed for 2 more days and stayed at CasaBlanca. They held our luggage until the room was ready. It’s an older hotel but a great location to shopping and the next street over has a tons of restaurants.
