We are going on short cruise November 18 . This is first time I did Royal up. My question is how long I need to wait for answer ?

It could be any day now or up to and including after you are onboard.  I got notified my Royal up was not accepted 2 hours after we departed Ft Lauderdale.

Hopefully you will hear sooner than later ( and are successful).. I know it's not the answer you were hoping for , but that's been the recent experience with Royal Up...YMMV

@Cile so are you going to cancel the cruise if you don't get the Royal Up?  That is what your last post seems to state.  Hopefully you were just referring to cancelling the Royal Up bid.

The chances of getting a successful bid for Royal Up seems to be best when the ships are not sailing full and your mid-November timeframe seems that is it could be one with good odds.  Obviously it depends on how many higher staterooms are actually booked and what you have bid (and bid on) that influence the chance.  It seems that most successful bids get accepted about 30 days to a week out.  That is based on our experience with the program, both winning and losing bids, and seeing others get winning bids.  If you don't get a winning bid by the last week, I would expect to be sailing in my originally booked stateroom.  It doesn't seem worth it to do the extra work to cancel a bid at that point.

Good luck and enjoy your sailing!

I used Royal Up before and did not win. But I did not go thru the bother to cancel prior to the cruise.  Nothing is charged unless you win a bid.

You can be notified that you won once onboard and after you have unpacked. Some people don't want to have to re-pack and move even b/c of winning an upgrade so they cancel ahead of time.

We usually book a balcony...have done JS several times...I don't royal up from balconies because if you get a suite you don't get the additional points on your C&A. I will however try to royal up from a JS to a GS or above since the points remain and if I can get a GS then I can cancel the internet etc.

Once we get to D+ then it's going to be different and likely will be mixing our cruises between Royal and Celebrity.

Thank you, but I will not wait last day. If I don't get answer day before I will cancel.

Nov sailing around a holiday = low probability of a Royal Up winning bid. Why would you cancel the bid there’s absolutely no reason to? I’ve been notified of a win at noon while drinking a beer by the pool on embarkation day. It’s easy, your bags are re-routed to your new stateroom it’s a seamless process.

Does the allotted time window for submitting a bid vary for each cruise? According to Cile’s timeline, they are more than 30 days out with a Nov 18 sailing. When I tried to check eligibility for our cruise, I got an error message telling me to make sure I was within 30 days of sailing before I could submit a bid.

Not all rooms would qualify to get a RoyalUp.......also if you booked through Costco, they don't participate in RoyalUP

As I posted above, because you can also be notified after you have unpacked in your original cabin and many people would not want to re-pack and move.

Ok, I booked a Crown Loft Suite on Allure, and it was directly thru RCCL website.

Lol, the CLS is popular but there are very few rooms that a person staying in one could actually upgrade to. Once you book a Sky class room, the only other options are Star and they are usually sold out since there are so few. Regardless of capacity it will be far easier for interior, OV, Balcony and JS to upgrade.

I didn’t realize they notify you after 1:00pm. I’ve won several royal ups at the last minute and it’s always been before 1pm when the rooms are ready. I understand the hassle though if that’s the case.

@tonyfsu21 Yes I believe up until 1800hrs. On our last sailing they sent me an email from Royal Up I wish I saved it. Essentially it was about 4 days before the sailing & said while your bid has not been accepted we have passed it on to the ship's crew. They may choose you for an upgrade up to 1800hrs day of embarkation. If you are not interested in this please feel free to cancel bid now. I didn't cancel and didn't unpack before going to dinner. While at dinner about 1830hrs I received an email saying bid unsuccessful.

At the end of my evening before bed I unpacked. I am at 0 for 27 or 28 tries but like @Ampurp85opined I usually stay in Sky class and there is not much wiggle room from there.

Something about Royal Up though, I love to bid sometimes I go in and change bids after I placed them in either direction, it's addictive I love it!

Thanks, this is our first time staying in a suite and I was unaware of how many (or apparently how few) categories are considered to be above CLS.

Make no mistake, it’s possible. We stay almost exclusively in Sky so my Royal Up bids are from CLS to Star class. Next up, Odyssey Royal Up from sky to star in November.

We are presently on the Allure and boarded last Sunday.  Last Saturday afternoon we received an RCCL email saying our Royal Up bid had not been accepted and we had the option of canceling our bid or waiting “up to departure” for possible upgrade.  Not wanting to unpack and then have to move, we cancelled our bid.

Hope this helps!

Out of curiosity what you have upgraded from/to? I imagine there’s more incentive to unpack and move going from let’s say a balcony to a suite or a suite to star class.

Currently I have a GTY Balcony on Freedom and prepaid my gratuities. If I do a Royal Up and win, say, a suite level how do they handle the gratuity change? I believe that suites have a higher per day gratuity. Does that get charged as well at the time of the Royal Up?

Since RU is 3rd party, the additional gratuity is most likely added to your seapass onboard account.

i sometimes wonder if we will get the option to upgrade as we are typically in a JS - once we lowballed for an ATS but i was relieved when we did not get it since i was quite pleased with the cabin we had chosen. 😅

When trying to "Royal Up", to us it is like going to the casino... You never know how you are going to do and like others have said a big part of it is the "CHASE".  We have an upcoming cruise and for the first time ever I have not changed my bid a all.  Usually I start at the minimum and raise the bid, if I feel lucky,

To be blunt, we have never won, and we will try every time it is available you never know if you will win or not.  I have lost count on how many times we have not won, and again it is all part of the game.

Per person.  I'm hoping to 'win' my Royal Up for my Nov 7th cruise.  The last year during covid times, I was successful every time.  I was lucky.

Any luck winning? I'm going on Freedom in December and am contemplating my bids.

i wonder if we have not gotten any royal up bids because we booked through a travel agency? 🤔

or maybe it doesn't matter and the sailings we selected are just at capacity 😅

Some agencies don't participate. Also, if your cabin is already on the higher end, like a CLS or something, most options won't be available.

good to know! we are in a balcony in our upcoming, and there genuinely may not be any upgrade available for our sailing, so this could also be a factor.

@asquared17 try manually inserting info. If it's within 30 days there might be a Royal Up opportunity here.
