We don't usually do GTY but this was pretty last minute and the price was acceptable. Not a bad location at all but right at the elevators. I know thats not always a big deal depending on the ship. @Sweety have you cruised on Vision near the elevators before? Any thoughts? We normally love a room close to the elevators....but I will say that when we sailed on Vision in April, the noise around the elevators was really REALLY loud from the Centrum music and mania in the evenings. They actually closed off the stateroom hallways with the flood doors (or whatever they are called) to try and close out some of the noise but there were rooms near the Centrum/elevators that could not be closed off. For those folks, I suspect there was a lot of noise. I'm not saying it's as problem...just that it might be - but only the evenings, really. If you are down one of the hallways a bit, I suspect you will be fine. If you are really close to the elevators/Centrum, you might experience some noise in the evenings. I also look for staterooms closer to the elevators when cruising with my husband as his mobility is limited. It is thanks to this blog and blog friends like you that when I started looking at bookings on Grandeur and Vision for the itineraries that I remembered that we would want to find rooms away from the Centrum in case we wanted an early night! Some noise is not a deal breaker but I think I might try to see if we can move, it can't hurt to ask, right? I did see that there were plenty of spacious OV balconies left (for now). I know I would need to wait for the cabin to be officially assigned before asking my TA to check into it for me. If they can awesome, if not, we'll live-as long as we are on the ship, we're happy. We are on the same path, not necessarily to cruise on Icon, but definitely to Diamond. lol Im going to throw a couple solo's in the mix too, since I get way more time off than my hubs. Our plan is to make Diamond in time for our first transatlantic in 2025. I am seriously considering a New England/Canada cruise so my hubs doesn't miss any firsts. SemperMom Posted June 24, 2023 Report Share Posted June 24, 2023 I am not going to get too excited about this since I've read it's getting harder to actually win now that we are back to full ships but we made our first go at Royal Up. They gave us all of the suite options so I bid on what I could afford. A Jr., a GS 1 br and a GS 2br at just over minimum. We are happy with the room we got but it would be super fun to walk my son to a suite as a surprise. Plus the anticipation is fun too. Who knows, maybe we'll get lucky, just have to wait and see! We got our cabin officially assigned today so now I'm just waiting to see if we hear about our Royal Up sooner than later. lol The kid will get their passport in the mail by Friday! It's starting to get exciting now. Man, do I ever need this vacation. I wish for the next 28 days to go by fast and then for time to screech to a slow crawl once we get onboard. We'll be staying at the hotel right across from the port the night before so my hubs doesn't have to fight commuter traffic on the way home from dropping us off. We got an 11am boarding time so hoping to get there early enough to be one of the first 50 on the ship, hahahaha. Think we can do it? MdFormula350 Posted August 23, 2023 Report Share Posted August 23, 2023 Well well well, i must say for my first cruise I was highly impressed overall. my cousin and I had a blast. We met so many nice people overall, and a few of them we hung out with quite a bit. Deluxe drink package came in handy for sure. We routinely had 10+ alcoholic drinks a day, and a ton of bottled water. A few negatives for sure: -fitness/gym was small vs. what it could of been. - same area was always warm to boarder line hot, wish it was cooler, maybe fans would of helped... -steam room could of been more steamy -sauna could of been hotter -no powerade zero bottles that i could find anywhere in the first 2 days on board so gave up my quest. -casino definitely needs to have something on the app or on screen to remind folks when its opened, closed, etc.. maybe i missed that part. -casino needs to remove some slots asap and place in at least another roulette table or two. among more table games in my opinion.
