brisbanite
Hi all. 1st time cruise on RCL line. Heading off via Ovation Of The Sea. Do I need to purchase enough smokes prior to embarking, or can I purchase them on board to smoke during the cruise. Other lines cruised, have sold them a pack at a time at the bar. Cheers in advance.... P.S Leaving from Australia if this has any bearing on answer.
Ogalthorpe Haywood
They do sell them onboard, I don't know how much they cost in Australia but they are much cheaper onboard compared to the states.
jce2
That does bring up an interesting point: What is the smoking policy on board?
DocLC
That does bring up an interesting point: What is the smoking policy on board? Casino and a couple of outside designated areas only, usually a portion of the promenade and pool decks. Outside of the casino, there is no smoking allowed indoors not is smoking allowed on stateroom balconies.

However, if a neighbor complains and they're caught, there are consequences. I don't recall Royal's exact policy, but most of the other cruise lines assess a fine of $250. WAAAYTOOO
For the most part, if they discover you smoking on your balcony (and there's always some busy body who will narc on you) they will give you a warning...but if you continue to do it then there are consequences which can include a fine and/or being asked to leave the ship. I don't know of the latter sentence ever being handed down, but they do use it to scare you with. I quit smoking years ago and never smoked on my balcony once it was outlawed but I still have a very soft place in heart for smokers. DocLC

We had issues with the toilet on the Brilliance of the Seas and they tried to blame us for the problem even though the steward said it was a continuous problem with the cabins on our deck. I finally confronted the officer in charge of housekeeping at the C&A party and he quickly changed his tune and apologized for the misunderstanding after I explained that after two dozen cruises without incident I was pretty sure I knew how the toilets worked and what you could and could not flush. Gears
People smoking on their balconies is the reason why you shouldn't leave towels, clothes or anything else that might burn out on a balcony. An errant cigarette butt flicked from a balcony landed on another balcony causing a fire on a Princess ship a number of years ago. One thing to make sure you have a great cruise...just follow the rules. WAAAYTOOO and Jerel

I don't smoke but I've smelled it plenty from my balcony. It's not a big deal to me, just extinguish responsibily..

If they know someone wont stop smoking on their deck it's like knowing about a fire hazard and doing nothing.
mworkman
I'm a non-smoker and can't stand to be around it, as it gives me a headache. I view it as being inconsiderate to others when you don't use the authorized areas. Just my two-cents. Wanderer

I can't be around cigarette smoke for any length of time without breaking out into a major coughing attack. So I'm sorry, but if you're on the balcony next to mine and I get a whiff of cigarettes, I'll have the cabin attendant on you faster than you can blink as soon as I've verified it's definitely you and not someone more upwind. bcarney, whitsmom and Wanderer
