It might not be the right place to post that comment but I totally understand it since it also happens to me late july. Adventure OTS was my 15th cruises on RCL and it was the worst. It needs to be documented so people make a smarter choice when choosing their next cruise!

We are not discounting your experience, but we just want to know what happened to make it the worst cruise ever in case it's something we can all learn from. I think you'll find as you hang around more that this message board is generally full of people trying to help others learn and have great experiences, so any info you can share is a good thing!

I respect that people may have the "worst cruise" ever, but what thing or things made it so.

Yes! I want to know as much as possible about everyone's experience as I try to plan my next several cruises. That's why I spend way too much time on these boards looking at almost every post!

I am not discounting anyone's experience with regards to a particular cruise on a particular ship.  It would be helpful to know what were the problems leading to such dissatisfaction.  I was on the August 18th, 2022 sailing on the Adventure of the Seas out of Cape Liberty and was one of our best and fav cruises.  I have also seen were two people were on the same cruise and one had a great cruise and the other person had a terrible cruise.  Perhaps attitude and/or expectations may play a part.

We were on Adventure OTS - out of Bayonne Sept 1st. - 9 nights up the Eastern coast and Nova Scotia & N Brunswick.

This is the first time we had sailed on the Adventure.  However, we are Diamond Plus and we've been on several of the Voyager class ships.

On the Adventure, The smell of smoke was everywhere.

We first noticed the stench of smoke coming from the casino when we strolled down the promenade on deck 5.

It got worse during the sea days.  I am asthmatic and had a pretty bad reaction by day 3.

I had read that the ship was updated in 2018 and anticipated a cleaner air system.

By day 4 - I was suspicious that it might have been covid - so I tested and was negative.  It was more like bronchitis with constant coughing and wheezing.

I am reporting this because I heard the same issues from several others at dinner and around the ship.

We ended up staying on the ship on the balcony - no excursions - and wasting 6 days of our Canadian adventure.

Just putting out a warning that this particular ship is WAY worse than any other we have been on.

Service was very good and the dinner staff were great.  This was not an experience I ever want to have again on a ship.

We are now searching for non-smoking ships.......

I had a great time while we were on Adventure OTS back in June. Our Bermuda cruise got rerouted to Canada ( got lost in the triangle..jk) due to a tropical storm. I thought at that time that I was glad that I was on that ship because I completely forgot that we were suppose to go to Bermuda. We had a great time!

I can think of lots of worse cruises than this one.  They may not have been entirely pleasure cruises, but there was one that ended abruptly on April 15, 1912.  Another on May 7, 1915.  There was one in April of 1865 where 1100 heros were lost.  One on November 10, 1975 was worse.  One in July of 1915 in the Chicago River was pretty bad.  There's one in Hawaii that's still leaking oil some 80 years later.  I think Leon Klinghoffer had a worse cruise than OP. There was one off the coast of Italy where the Captain was showing off for a woman he met and crashed his ship. Somewhere I have a map that shows thousands of ship wrecks in the Great Lakes. I'm pretty sure most of them were worse.  That's just off the top of my head without cracking a book or even the internet.

I was on Adventure in May 2022, little 4 night to Halifax.  The crew were amazing, the food was fantastic.  Loved every show.

The casino was tight (space wise and money wise😩) and it was smokey.  My dining room was deck 3 and it was not smokey, nor was the promenade.

I’m on Adventure at this moment, 9 night and I’ve noticed how “NOT smokey” the casino is.  It’s not really crowded in there either  it’s still tight (both the tables/money and the space) and the casino host said the casino was busier on the Bermuda portion of Adventure sailings.  Perhaps it’s the itinerary that has more, or less, smokers .

Example of what was wrong: noticing mold on veggies displayed  at cafe promenade, mentioning it to a white shirt staff and he didn't act promptly or seems to mind...

eating a seafood burger at MDR lunch and chewing the shrimp tails...

To lose confidence in what is served and then doubting each meals

I saw a new class of trainees on my boarding of Adventure on Sept 15.  Some staff admit to being new, or just back from vacation. Others are in their final month-meaning expect more newbies or possibly overworked staff.

it must be difficult to still get everything up and running when they had staffing issues and contract extensions to try to deal with that.  They are doing their best.

Hi,

I will be on Adventure OTS next month Oct.  Can you tell me what were the problems?

Thanks

Mainly, the problem was the food. Mold on display and shrimp tails in a burger is unacceptable. Mentionning it to the right persons onboard and they don't care is unacceptable. It is below rcl standard. It might have only happen to me but for that reason I will hesitate before booking this ship again.

Don't get me wrong, I go on cruise vacations for no cooking or diswashing for a week and relax. The same applies when I eat out on workdays.

It is not the titanic sinking. It was my experience late july, ranking 15th on 15 cruises with rcl so it makes it the worst of them.

This is a great example of sharing the reasons a particular cruise or particular ship was less than anticipated (or even possibly "the worst ever" among those cruises the poster has taken. Thank you.

Was just on Adventure of the seas. Worst RCCL ship I've ever been on. Nothing but problems from day 1. RCCL, you should be ashamed of yourselves..m

We sometimes wonder...If this was posted by a real cruiser or someone just wanting to slam a cruise line or ship...Their only post and why post something like this and not come back to answer any questions?

In this case it appears that this person thought this was an official RC page.

If you google op name you will find a dated twitter account where i would say its an account set up to be used for paid reviews or links.

Companies pay people for positive reviews on their own pages jusr as they also pay for negative reviews for their competitors.

On Adventure last May and thought the ship was fine. Our problem was cabin location, right next to where they bus dishes they retrieve from room service. As early birds in our room by 10pm, we heard the clanking of dishes until 11pm. I poked my head out once and the crewman doing it said "oh, sorry" then continued on making loud noise after I went back in my room. Guest Services said they'd address it and it was better for one night then back to sounding like we were bunking in the dishwashing area in the galley.

The smell of smoke penetrates up from the casino...some days worse than others. Also forgetting what side of the ship you're on and walking down the pool deck and into the smoking section sucks. I've had these problems on more than one ship in the fleet though.

Overall Adventure was fine for us in 2018 and recently this May. We'd sail her again.

I find it hard to believe that if someone complains to a crew member, they're going to get poor customer service or be told "too bad". RC has been nothing but overly helpful on every cruise I've been on and quick to resolve issues. And if one crew member is having a bad day, then go to their supervisor or to Guest Services and I bet it won't happen again.

Food issues are fixable.  The smoking issue however is not and an unfortunate thing non-smokers have to deal with on cruise ships.  Hopefully they can upgrade their filtration system in the future to alleviate some of these problems.

I'd be very surprised if a crew member ignored a report of mold on food when ignoring it could be detrimental to their job. And CDC inspections are unannounced, too.

Me too.

It's pretty strange to make a negative comment lacking details if one is hoping for feedback from other cruisers.

Some folks are just quirky, I suppose.

I must be pretty going, while every cruise I've been on there have been hiccups if you will, I've never let them bother me. Never been on the Aventure, but will be in a few weeks.

One thing I do have to wonder is did the cruise lines reopen to fast (although I don't blame them), maybe should have not brought as many ships online.  All cruise lines have a bunch of inexperienced crew members right now, far more than they normally would pre covid. It'll take a while for that to work through the system. I do fully expect bumps in the road for the new little while
