First day. When does the drinks package start?

Recommended Posts

  • Eddie Ireland changed the title to First day. When does the drinks package start?

So long as you have your room number you can get a drink. We usually look for a quiet corner of the R Bar to sit with our carry-ons and have a few while waiting for the rooms to open. Many travelers head right to the pool deck so the "inside spaces" (R Bar, the Schooner Lounge, the Casino if there's a bar tender there yet) are often quiet. As a side note, I usually pick one or two bar tenders as I always tip... they quickly come to know my drinks order 🙂

From the second i get on!? Whoo-we! I've never been on a cruise, now that it's getting close I'm starting to get excited about this whole all you can eat and drink malarkey.

And let's just say you wanted to kick start your day and have a drink with breakfast... is that cool? Asking for a friend .....

Not just cool, but encouraged. A lot of times, there will be waiters coming around the Windjammer during breakfast taking drink orders or carrying around trays of mimosas.

If they didn't want you to drink alcohol in the morning, they wouldn't make alcoholic drinks with coffee, orange juice, tomato juice, etc.

Yes this is required to take advantage of the high price you paid for the drink package. You can have a sit down breakfast in the main dining room and order fresh squeezed OJ, mimosa, screwdriver, bloody mary etc

Also, funny story (I think) from the first time I got a drink package. We got on the ship at about 12pm, if not earlier, and went immediately to the pool (even before I had a drink...which means I broke the law I stated above, and paid the consequences as you'll see). As I was getting in, I slipped and sprained my thumb. So the very first drink I got with my drink package was a can of Budweiser so I could use it as an ice pack. It served double purpose - kept me from having to visit the doctor on the ship, and got the party going.

Well shit, this just keeps getting better! The drinks package was actually pretty cheap too, €40 per person per day. I called them up to see if they could give me a deal and they said they had a special offer on for Europe.

Final question, let's just say this friend of mine wanted to make it a double and he had a tip, is that also cool? Or do I need to keep ordering a another drink everytime. Shit, I mean my friend, will he have to order seperate drinks.

As a native St. Louisan, I can tell you that you've discovered the proper use for a can of Bud.  (Too bad InBev doesn't ship Natty Daddy - an 8% ale - out of the St. Louis area).  In the Philippines, younger Filipinos drink Bud since it's an import.  I pay about half the cost for a Red Horse since it still seems like an import to me.  Different strokes...

I'm a beer drinker, but I am also a beer geek, and Royal Caribbean offers pure crap when it comes to beer. So, while that Bud was the only beer I had all week...I can tell you it was quite refreshing (and, in this case, healing). Bud Light, no thanks...Bud Heavy, I'll drink here and there on a hot day.

My first stop after breakfast is usually Cafe Promenade to get an Adult Coffee and if you go somewhere for breakfast you can get something at the table. I will say we just got off of Symphony and we love to eat at Park Cafe, on previous ships at least Oasis had a coffee bar inside of Park Cafe where they could make you drinks with adult beverages. There is no such bar in the Park Cafe on Symphony.

After a relatively rough night i was waiting at pool bar for them to pull the shutters up so i could get a hair of the dog.

No one judges you if you are drinking at 9am ( well apart from the Mrs lol )

Given the amount of Filipino crew on ships im surprised they do not stock Redhorse onboard.

Maybe we should start a petition 🙂

I'd be almost as happy if they served Tanduay rum onboard.  I can get an 8 year old 750ml bottle of Tanduay for about $6 in Cebu.  Out in the provinces we settle for a 750ml of 65 proof for about $3.50.

Though Kraken is an excellent consolation drink.

Only thing i got in Cebu ( Mactan ) was strange looks lol dont think they had seen a Scotsman in a kilt before!

It was there i discovered Red Horse unfortunately in the UK its only available in shops about 300 miles from where i stay....nothing beats a chilled bottle of 500 😉

You've found the best use for a can of Bud (From someone who originally worked close to the original A-0B Brewery in St. Louis).

Now im wondering is it possible to try every drink they serve on the boat twice.

We had a large group and tried a impromptu pub crawl where we had to try a different drink at each location and if it had a specialty drink we had to try that. We got to about 7 in an hour before throwing in the towel and finishing the next day. It was fun though...

My first time, on day 2 it felt like a week long vacation...They really know how to pack 20 Lbs (or Kilos, depending where you are from) of stuff in a 5 lb bag. Most vacations getting back to my home state is the best part. At the end of my first cruise I didn't want to leave. It is the best form of vacation. Have fun and enjoy...
