Back to normal?

Recommended Posts

Good day.

I just joined and was wondering something.  We were on a cruise 2019/2020.  We absolutly loved it.  W have booked another one for December 2022.  I was hoping it's all back to normal and there are no restrictions and mandatory mask use.  Please let me know of your recent experiences.

Thank you all in advanced for any comments you can provide.  Happy cursing.

It's hard to tell what will and won't be gone since things change on a monthly basis.

As of right now, you are not required to wear a mask. You do still need to test if your sailing is 6 nights or longer and the vaccine requirement will still be applicable at several departure ports after Sept 5.

Best bet is to keep an eye on the boards and news and site and see what changes may come about.

I hate to be one of those.......but I doubt cruises will ever go back to what was "normal" in 2019. Currently there aren't many restrictions, lots of new crew and some changes that work and some that don't.

I've sailed under the stricter restrictions, and I am sailing next month under the more relaxed ones. In Dec it very well may be "normal" as things are truly and constantly changing. The important thing is to go into the situation with understanding. Think about if you are willing to cruise with the protocols currently in place, if not then maybe you should wait until everything falls how you want.

Currently on Oasis…I would say that it’s “normal” in the sense that I am able to fully enjoy my vacation with only minor inconveniences.

*Walking around ports with my Vax card and a mask since you don’t really know what other country’s protocols are. Plenty of shops we entered said “masks required” (whether it was enforced was another story)

*Getting the testing done (currently on a 9-night sailing so it had to get done regardless)

*Crew wearing masks made it hard to understand them sometimes, especially with music blaring in the background

The unfortunate part is that even disgusting behavior is “back to normal” - people not washing hands after leaving the bathroom, people not covering coughs and sneezes, people bypassing the washy washy at Windjammer, and don’t even get me started on the amount of finger licking I see at Windjammer!!

Yuck. That is precisely why the windjammer is a “no go” for us. I am one of the people who skips the “washy washy” when I walk through the windjammer but I can guarantee you that I would not be caught dead eating in there (for some of the reasons you mentioned). Normally when I enter that place it’s to either find my kids or make my way to Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen on Freedom.

Yuck is the right word, doesn't RC staff make sure people wash their hands? as far as the finger licking goes, does that mean they stick their fingers in the food to taste it and then do it again (like double dipping a chip) SEINFELD? Maybe RC staff should go back to having servers on hand, also anyone who is coughing or sneezing around the food without covering their face should be kicked out of the Windjammer. I have to admit I am feeling reluctant to go to the WJ when I go on my cruise early next year.🙁

They have one person at the entrance at WJ greeting everyone and reminding everyone to washy washy. People either don’t or they “fake” it (they make the effort to turn the water on and then just grab a paper towel to dry off their dry unwashed hands).

The finger licking is usually a result of accidentally getting food on their fingers while holding their plate. Thankfully I have not observed anyone not using the tongs to grab the buffet food.

that is good to hear regarding the finger thing and not double dipping😜, but what about people who are coughing and sneezing at the location of the food without covering their mouth or nose. If their coughing or sneezing at the table they are sitting at no big deal. Tables can be wiped clean. I am still so looking forward to my cruise

Haha, yes I wash my hands but not to walk into the WJ where I don’t touch or eat anything.

The only potential issue with this is the knock on effect from those walking behind you, they see you walking straight in and follow your actions and think " well if they aren't washing their hands neither am i"

Maybe they should stop following my actions walking into the Windjammer and start following my actions walking into the casino. Some people never learn.
