Sitting at a diner counter or booth is kind of a thing. When I was working (and single), eating breakfast at a diner was a real treat. At Johnny Rockets, I'm not sure the food quality is the point. That is why Royal has different venues for different folks, moods, experiences.... ellcee, Allen2, RWDW1204 and 4 others
TXcruzer
Food is very subjective. Playmakers isn’t offered on all Oasis class ships.
Ampurp85
Well, a burger at Playmakers is $10-ish dollars for just the burger and fries. At JR you pay the $12 and can get as much as you want plus dessert and a soda. Linda R, Neesa and Dlove707

The garlic parm fries that came with it were excellent too. Some good drinks at Playmakers too like The Pitch (Long Island with Midori & Sprite instead of coke and one other liquor) and the Goalpost Margarita (pineapple and jalapeno). Bradinmississippi
we took our adult kids and spouses on Mariner. We all ate at Playmakers for around $100. So much food, good drinks and great atmosphere. Its bar food, but really good bar food. Swar

Swar
I like the different strokes attitude. My first inclination was to demean Johnny Rockets and tout Playmakers (because I LOVE PM). After reading the string of comments, I agree that there is a place for both on the ships. My favorite ship is the Independence because Playmakers is next to the Casino. I get free drinks in the Casino and great food next door. If I could move a bed in, I would be set. I was on the Independence at Coco Cay last week. The Freedom was also there. The bartenders at Cpt Jacks were off the Freedom and remembered us from the cruise last month. They were Playmaker bartenders. Lets just say my Diamond drinks stretched out pretty far. They remember good tippers who are nice to them. WAAAYTOOO, Eamon and CruizIan 2

DMLM
We have eaten at both and would echo the comment from Ryan79. We really have been disappointed by JR most of the time over the years (some times much better than others). We have eaten at playmakers once and we were pleased overall. We will be trying that again and see how it goes over time. For us it was not the difference in the money as much as it was about the tastes/experiences. Don't let me mislead you, I would also not go if the price was outrageous for the food/drink. Enjoy the experiences!

twangster
One could go to the Windjammer and eat a "free' burger with fries at no additional cost. One could ask why on earth would anyone go to PM or JR versus going to the WJ? One could order a Royal Burger from room service for just $7.95 (plus 18% service charge) and it would be cheaper than either JR or PM. However sitting in your cabin, especially an interior or OV cabin, eating a burger is not the same as sitting in a venue eating a burger. I recently did the Royal Burger using room service and I included chicken wings and a salad and I still paid just $7.95 which is a much better deal compared to PM where the PM Burger and PM Wings carry separate charges. The Royal Burger from room service also uses wagyu beef and it's very good. Very much enjoyed on my balcony. Naturally if someone has the UDP that changes the math. We are fortunate we have so many choices and each of us can decide how to cruise and how to enjoy a burger on board. AlohaLivin
Why would anyone eat a dry burger onboard from any venue when they can eat interesting entrees and appetizers all day long that most of us would never bother to cook at home (unless from room service at midnight LOL)? We prefer a full dining experience for breakfast, lunch, and dinner whenever possible, I can slum it at home at a much lower cost. On a cool very windy day, we decided to eat lunch in the MDR instead of fighting the crowd at WJ. Never again! It was a very uncomfortable meal. First and foremost, food was not particularly good. Second, the wait staff seemed confused and distracted. One would come over & ask for our order then 5 minutes later another would come over & ask for our order again.
