new to club royale, getting confused

Recommended Posts

I've looked at other threads, and on RCI's site, but haven't found current information that answers what I think I'm asking 🤪

After bringing my slot-playing MIL on a recent cruise, she/we received an offer for a free cruise...which got me wondering how to use a Club Royale membership.  Does it tie into, or result in, any onboard credit (OBC)?  A fellow player seemed to be redeeming/applying "something" to her bill.  Would that have been her winnings? Her reward points?

I'm truly naive to this, but since MIL's gambling inspired my husband to gamble alongside her (and also receive an offer), I figured I should get on top of this.  I did read up on the program and understand that there are Tiers that give you different benefits (and points for tiers accumulate in different ways).....and that there are Reward Points that get you extra discounts (but expire at the end of your trip??).   I guess I'm mostly confused/curious about what exactly the other traveler was applying to her bill and how she did it...?

Now I'm off to see if Matt has made any Club Royale club how-to videos!

This sounds like the casino credit applied they apply to the final folio.  Players that accumulate enough points receive credits from the casino on the last night.  It appears on the folio as category - credit, description - casino comps.  Not sure how many points are required but you can probably check with the host.  The credits vary greatly from ship to ship, based on our experience.

There is a lot that goes into the casino program to wrap your head around but when you play on a cruise you earn points that accumulate. You can cash in those points for free play in the slot machine or if you have enough you can have the casino host apply them towards your onboard cruise account.

The points that you accumulate during a cruise can also make you eligible to hit certain casino offers/free cruises on that sailing.  The points also accumulate over the casino year (April 1 - March 30) which will indicate what Casino Royale tier that you fall in.  If you cash in your points for free play or OBC, it doesn't affect your overall casino program year accumulation.

So...you have to ask the casino host on the last night?...or do they automatically go onto your account folio as OBC?

If you want to use it for OBC you probably have to ask. I have no clue what the threshold is for them to use it for OBC starts at.

I've always used mine as free play on the slot machines which you can just redeem yourself through the menu on the machine when you have your card entered.  Although the machines typically won't register points earned from table play so you would have to inquire with the host about this. I think you can even use the free play towards table play,  but again would require interacting with the host or asking a pit boss.

What is a folio, and where can I view it?

From the RCI site, I see that Club Royale members earn two things:   Tier Credits, which place you on a "level" of earned rewards (free drinks, various free cabins, internet, etc).  These just accumulate.   Then there are Reward Points, which give you discounts for things (spa, dining, excursions, the free play games you reference, things like that).  These expire at the end of the cruise.  Are these what you're referring to?  We can turn these into onboard credit, as long as we do so by the end of the last night?  And we do this only through the casino host?

so many questions, but I see I'm not the only confused one!  Thank you for helping to educate me!

I'm still trying to wrap my head around credits vs points, which accumulate and which expire?  And does everyone start from 0 every Apr 1?  I've looked on RCI's site and they talk about reward points (vs tier credits) and using the points for discounts (before they expire at the end of your cruise), but I haven't seen where you can turn them into onboard credit.

I don't really know anything about rewards points for discounts and whatnot  unless you're talking about the tier benefits.

But the points that you accumulate for the casino year will expire March 31.  Everyone resets to 0 points on April 1. However, whatever tier you earned in that prior year is the tier you keep for the next casino year.

It takes 2500 points to achieve the first casino tier level, which is prime.  You have from April 1 - March 31 to get those 2500 points.  You can earn them all in one cruise or 20 cruises throughout that year.  As soon as you hit that 2500 point threshold, you are considered prime level in the casino for the remainder of the casino year and then all of the following year.  (Say this year April 1, 2022 you hit 2500 points, you will be considered prime through the end of the current casino year which is March 31, 2023 and then you are also prime all next year April 1, 2023 through March 31, 2024.  Your points reset to 0 at April 1, 2023, though.)  You start reaping the benefits of the prime tier on the cruise that you achieve it on; just have the casino host check your points status and they'll put a sticker on your card

The folio is the bill.  you can view in on the tv in the room, supposedly on the app but its never worked for us, or ask guests services to print a copy  There's usually one outside your door disembark morning.

The casino credits we're referring to will appear on the folio at the end of the cruise for players that qualify.  Not sure if this happens automatically or needs to be requested as it was different for us on every ship we've been on.  On the Allure the host came over and told us, like an FYI, that all our points will be applied to the folio as credits.  When we mentioned it to the host on the Oasis he replied, "ok I'll put you on the list", like this had to be requested.  On the Anthem we were told this happens automatically by the system when there's enough points.  Yes, it is very confusing so check with the hosts but expect a different answer every time you ask.

Hello

On our most recent sailing. On the last night at the casino talk to the casino host and they will be able to credit your account. We did this and were able to use our club royale points that we accrued over the course of the cruise to portfolio.

Can you give me a ball park figure of what to expect?

For instance, if we accumuate 500 points towrds prime(on our cruise), would that give us any kind of OBC before we leave the ship?

A few months ago, I earned 800 points during our cruise, which was enough to earn an interior room certificate. Please note that, sadly, the 800-point promotion ended April 30. Anyway, I recalled having  bonus play, which in this case, was $16.  I spent it in a slot machine, of course. I believe that if you have a significant amount of bonus play, you will have the option of converting bonus play to OBC - I am just not certain what the minimum amount would be to qualify.

BTW, if you like FB Groups, there is an excellent one that is for Club Royale Casino Patrons ( do a search if you’re interested, easy to find. ) I think they could answer these type of questions in a flash. I just hope I don’t get into trouble mentioning the group here.

They can all be called points or credits or reward points .  It is really the understanding of how the "value" of the points that is important.  Note I will try to refer to them as reward points.....you can call them what you will.

When you get onboard most every person will have Freeplay loaded on their seapass cards.  $ amount is typically based on your Crown and Anchor level  and typically is between $2-$8.  It must be redeemed by the end of day 2 on your current sailing.  You can ask the Casino host how to redeem this (they will give you a piece of paper with the 'how to").
*note, if on a ship like Adventure the Casino Host is not visible, so tell the cashier in the casino what you need-and they will give you the paper or get the host.

When you play you accumulate reward points.
When you tap (or some casinos insert) your seapass card the mechanism will turn green and say Welcome (name) and display the reward points you have accumulated.  So when I first tap(insert) my seapass card at a slot machine it will say Welcome Pattycruise you have 0 points
Points accumulate as follows:

  • 1 point for every $5  in slot play
  • 1 point for every $10 in video poker
  • Table play earns points, and they are calculated based on $ amount of average hand played x length of play.  (you can ask the casino host each night you play tables to see what type of points you accrued and sort of calculate your own points based on your own average bet x length f play)  I do see one website that reports this:  A $10 average wager on Blackjack for one hour will earn you 10 points. I do not play blackjack so I cannot comment to the accuracy of that statement.

*note:  table play points do not show up when you tap/insert into a slot machine you must ask the casino host how many points you have accumulated on the tables..

You earn reward points (free play) for play onboard.
These points must be used by the end of your current sailing-they do not carry over. So on the last night, make sure to use them

  • For slot play-you can see your rewards within your account via the slot machines (again, you can ask the host how to do this if you cannot figure it out)

Once you have used your accumulated reward points -which you can redeem  at any time during your cruise-your balance of points showing on the machine will be reduced-This has NO impact on your accumulation of points towards the casino tier levels (more on that later)  Note:  you cannot cash out reward point $-it must be played, however you can cash out the winnings on it, so try to track your spins (who am I kidding, most of us just spend that $ until it's gone! LOL)

  • For table play-you ask the casino host to convert your rewards to either slot play or table play  (it's your choice).  Points still go toward tier level even if  redeemed for free play.  If you choose table play chips they will be promotional chips.  They can only be played, not redeemed.  So I can put $20 promo chips on a table game, and they will pay winnings in regular table chips.

I'm seeing talk of having your reward points converted to onboard credit towards your cruise bill (aka folio) and this is new to me, clearly I do not gamble enough or have not asked the right questions!-I always seem to learn something!)

Accumulation of  reward towards Casino Tier Level
The points you earn on a sailing also accumulate during the casino year  (April 1-March 31).  Each cruise total is added to your overall total of points earned for the year.
Even if you redeem your reward points (above) during your sailing your points earned still accumulate toward the tier level.  So if I have 3 sailing  and earned 500 points on each one I would have accumulated 1,500 points towards tier.

Casino Tier

  • Choice-Less than 2,500 points
  • Prime-2,500 points- 24,999
  • Signature-25,000-99,999
  • Masters 100K points on up

When you earn Prime or Above within a gambling year (April 1-March 31) the casino host should recognize it and apply a sticker to your seapass card , or YOU go to the casino host and ask them to check your points to see if you hit the Prime level and they will apply the sticker....The level earned that year will go on record immediately but it is really the level you earn for the next gambling year!!  So you will reap that benefit for the remainder of this casino year AND the full casino year that starts April 1-March 31.

Prime earns-

  • waived casino convenience fee (5%) for gaming on SeaPass or Credit Card,
  • complimentary drinks in Casino Royale, (for the remainder of the casino year AND the next casino year)
  • discount unlimited surf and stream internet Wifi packages, (30% discount of onboard price)
  • tier priority contact number,
  • tier exclusive rates for family and friends for additional staterooms, (currently 5%)
  • special offers with land-based casinos,
  • and an annual complimentary cruise- Inside Cabin! (offer assigned to your account in April)

Signature=above, free internet for one device, 10% off for family/friend and the  annual complimentary cruise is a  balcony cruise
Masters- signature plus:  , free internet for 2 devices plus and the  annual complimentary cruise is a grand suite

****accuracy of the level rewards may not be 100%.  Subject to change by the program as well.

To see your accumulated points for the casino year and any associated casino offers specifically to you log in to
https://www.clubroyaleoffers.com/
Note:  They have been having problems with their website and it is updating....so not everyone will be abe to see their accumulated points.
You can also contact the Casino benefits at 1-888-561-2234 to make an inquiry. If you have your Crown and Anchor number available it will expedite the process.
Note: Each tier level  does have a separate phone number they can use for the casino benefits, I do not have those numbers.  you can inquire when you call the basic #

Other casino things I've learned

  • You can link your Royal Caribbean Crown and Anchor level (not casino level) with MGM.  Contact MGM to do so.
  • You can sign up with URComped, supply an offer certificate from Royal and receive casino offers from Royal as well as other cruiselines.
  • If your personal email address you use for Royal Caribbean has children (and possibly adults) attached to it you will not receive email offers from the Royal Casino, and try as you might to get it fixed, it seems any time the IT staff does work on the website it reverts to adding your children back onto your email, thus cancelling out the ability to get emails, yet again.
  • Stop by the casino host desk (or on a sailing where the casino host does not have a desk "on the foor" the cashier) and look for the current promo regarding earning points and the reward associated with points earned.  Also understand the bonus award redemption (which is not displayed) so you can maximize the benefit.

Ex.  On a recent cruise I earned 1,600 points.  It had a value of $400 off any cruise -if I booked it within 30 days (the standard) OR if I booked onboard at NextCruise, or paid a deposit of $200 to get a reservation # for a cruise and contacted Casino Royale within 7 days to redeem the BONUS award of  free interior cabin offer on select sailings,  I could have a free interior cabin     So you really need to be aware of the redemption rules regarding your offer or you will lose the benefit (In my case a free interior that I chose to redeem on a 9 night New England cruise)

  • You can upgrade a casino offer for a free cruise-just ask the casino desk people (phone number 888 561-2234  the cost.
  • You can add a guest, for only port fees/taxes (which is what you pay for you as well)
  • You can add a 3rd/4th guest but it will be at prevailing rate and cabin upgrade cost.
  • If you sail alone on a casino comp it is double points.  (some say not true, i HAVE gotten them)

Hopefully this all makes sense.  It took quite some time and in trying to proof it I am just plain old too tired!  LOL

It can be both. They will say if it is a free interior, where you pay taxes, fees, and grats or money off, like $100/200 of a sailing.

Congrats!
Offers do have expirations, so if it is a "July offer" it is good for 30 days, the question  is 30 days from when?  (30 days to redeem the offer) Other might  be more clear as to the expiration date.
If you are not understanding the offers I would advise you call the casino number and ask them to explain it to you.  And if you do not understand what that person is explaining and they "can't get it to make sense" say thank you, hang up and call back to ask someone else.
Something I do not think I mentioned above, you can combine some offers to get one upgraded cabin.  I do not have experience with this but it's something like 2 free cruise interior offers can be combined for a free balcony.  Definitely something worth asking the casino #.

Urcomped.com is another website, unrelated to Royal Caribbean.  You can sign up for an account with them.   When you gamble onboard and receive a certificate (offer) for $ off or a free cruise certificate (offer) you  upload it to the URComped website.  They will ask you about your gambling and they provide additional offers for either $ off or free cruises from other cruise lines, land casinos and/or Royal.  I am new to the URComped website so I cannot address much more than that.  I learned about them from a facebook group of Royal Caribbean gamblers.

With some brief reading, it looks very interesting. I am a skeptic at heart, so I will do more extensive reading when I have time. Would love to hear some real stories from people who have used them.

In another thread (https://www.royalcaribbeanblog.com/boards/index.php?/topic/25615-casino-tips-tricks-and-rewards/#elControls_277537_menu), @Pattycruise had even more good advice: "while I was playing a slot machine ... I saw a piece of paper on how to log into your account on the machine.  I had no idea this was “a thing”.  Well I had $206.  I asked the casino host how it got there, he had no idea.  I asked if it expired and he said it does by the end of the cruise, which was 2 days later!  So, figure out how to check your onboard account."

Can someone explain how to log into your account on the machines?

Ask the casino host.  On Oasis and on Anthem the casino host has a desk in the casino, you can see them.  On Adventure they have an "office" in the cashier area-you cannot see them.  The host has the little slip of paper with the directions on "how to transfer your freeplay".

I will give you a step by step but my memory sucks, so this could be way way off (best bet is to see the casino host for the directions)
Tap/insert seaspass card-at slot machine.
The mechanism you did this at will turn green and say something like "welcome pattycruise you have "0" points
Click on Account
Type in your PIN #  your first time using the slot and entering your PIN it is your 2 digit birth month and 2 digit birth date.
The machine will prompt you to change your PIN, enter new 4 digit # and then confirm the 4 Digit #
CLick on Transfer
Click on PROMO $  I believe it is here it will tell you how much $ you have (or it might be  elsewhere-crappy memory)
To transfer the $ you need to select an amount to transfer ....if it is $3 you type 3  (no zeros)
Confirm the transfer
IF it is PROMO money you cannot transfer it to the machine and cash it out.  It must be played. (you can cash out winnings)
(as to why I had $206-I believe the $6 was for my C&A level,  and on the cruise prior to this one I had played an awful lot at the tables and knew nothing of money I could earn-to typically be used before your cruise ends.  I'm thinking somehow they gave me that $200 I had earned in rewards from my table play from the month prior.  Sitting down and seeing that little slip of paper was amazing.  I have vowed to educate anyone I can about the free slot play, earning slot points/rewards/$ via slots or tables.....so no one else misses out.  BTW, I do believe that any rewards/$  earned on a cruise must be played by the last night (see my directions above) -so this may have been a one off.

IF you choose ROOM transfer you are actually adding a charge to your room, which will be charged at the end of your cruise to your method of payment.  Be sure that is what you want to do...this is NOT the free section of $.  Now, if you happen to have OBC (onboard credit)-and use the room transfer-this will reduce the amount of OBC you have available   This is known as removing your OBC through the slot machine.  I do believe only refundable OBC can be taken into the machine and cashed out immediately and then go to the cashier and cash in your sllip.  I do not know anything about nonrefundable OBC and slot machines.

Take your Sea Pass and insert it into the machine. Your passcode is your month, day of birth. eg June 9 would be 0609. I don't remember all the steps but on most ships you can draw money on your room account.

They don't count against your prime accumulation. You will see the points displayed on the machine go down if you redeem some, so if you're trying to keep track make sure you keep track of how many you redeemed. The casino host can always look up your current points on the cruise if you do end up redeeming it for free play and wipe out your tally for the cruise.

On our last cruise (Oct '22) we were told by a fellow slot player that the three reward streams (annual, cash out, and per cruise perks) all use the same tracking  count (time and dollars in), but are completely separate reward streams.   Meaning we were free to cash out our bonus money with out affecting our per cruise award total, or our annual.   Sounds like they may have been wrong, or am I missing a finer point...  Thanks.

They explained it correctly.
Onboard points earned in the casino (tables and slots) can be converted to freeplay for that cruise.   Once you use that freeplay you cannot see your points, but they still exist.   That conversion does NOT impact your points earned on that cruise, they have already been earned and count towards the instant reward certificate for that sailing (they do not carry to the next cruise) as well as towards your annual accumulation of casino points towards Prime, Signature or Masters. The casino year is April 1 to March 31 points earned in that timeframe get you to Prime (2,500 points), Signature (25,000 points) or Masters (too high for me to think of)

No, they are correct.

For example, first sailing that you decide to gamble. You're using your card in the slots and notice that you have accumulated 1000 points. If you decided to use some of your points for free play, you will see that 1000 point balance decrease immediately.  You still have 1000 points for the cruise that will count towards any reward certificates for the cruise and also 1000 points towards your casino status level for the casino year (April 1 - March 31).

It depends. I have a lot more points than my wife and I get comp cruise offers all the time. My wife on the other hand mainly just gets discount offers. Comp cruises usually just require you to pay taxes and port fees, but you can pay the difference to upgrade to a better room if you want.
