Nassau, what to do

Recommended Posts

Our first cruise is coming up and unfortunately this is the only stop in a foreign port (outside of Coco Cay) due to an itinerary change.  We don’t have any excursions planned, so what are some things we might need to wander and see?  Also do we need to bring our passports so we can get back on the boat or is the sea pass good enough?

We took a snorkeling excursion at Nassau once.  There is some shopping downtown, but I don't think you'd spend more than an hour walking around.  We haven't tried Atlantis, but you can find lots of reviews about it on various sites. The Cruise Compass will tell you the documents you need to get back onboard.  You can look up a recent cruise that visited Nassau.

Our recent trip was to Aruba, and they told us to take Seapass and ID.  No one actually looked at our ID, but it's good to have it.  Members have different opinions on taking passports (unless they are required by the host country).  You can look at those threads and Matt's recommendations.

I spent a week there last year.  We went to the Rum factory, Chocolate factory, Queens staircase, Straw Market, Senor Frogs and many stores in the area.  All walkable.  You could purchase a day pass at Margaritaville which is about a 10-15 min walk from Pier.

We are there now and thankfully we have an excursion through RC later. We got off the ship earlier and it was complete chaos. Two other RC ships, Disney, Carnival seemed to dumped everyone out at once on a pier under construction. So fought our way through the crowds, bought some expensive trinkets and got our butts back on board.

We only have 7 hours to hang out. If we didn't have the excursion through RC, we'd just stay on board. Not worth risking it doing a private one and getting back in time.
