CharmMicah68
Although never on my agenda to get in a tussle while enjoying a cruise.....nothing surprises me anymore....nothing. Right becomes wrong and wrong has become right. Why are we surprised. What is most shocking was RCCL lack of response to the altercation. Maybe my expectation of "security" is higher than most. I just expect RCCL security IN the promenade to be ALL over this matter in moments. I know some local staff on the promenade looked like they held up their hands in an effort to reason with what looked like people who aren't being reasonable. 247cruiser

Carotthat
I am truly not surprised, having witnessed last cruise how some guests took part in a passengers' conversation with a crew member, which was truly none of their business. But hej, they simply wanted to help the crew member before it was harassed by the other passenger. And hej, they started loud harrassing this guest and using the f* words. Nonetheless, it was simply a conversation from the one guest with the crew member. Guys, stick to your stuff

Ampurp85
Things like this are happening a lot and everywhere. We went to get takeout and there was a couple waiting for their food that came to blows. I was so shocked. It was literally so small of a disagreement. The one person got hot giardiniera instead of jalapenos and got a fast punch, which took them aback, so they slapped the other person. Next thing they were tumbling into a wall, while those of us waiting watched. With more and more new people cruising, there is bound to be bad apples in the bunch. Families and friends who shouldn't vacation together. People who hate people and all those entitled folks. I just got off Freedom of the Seas today (free cruise thanks to Casino Royal) this was both my husband and I first 3 night weekend cruise. While I agree it is a totally different crowd than the typical 7 night or 11 night cruise if we lived in Florida we would definitely do it again, we had a blast, the party just didn't stop at all. Luckily we are both off for a few more days but I can understand how these types of cruises may not be for everyone.

Back in November we did a 3-night/4-night back to back on Freedom. The Friday to Monday leg was much rowdier than the Monday to Friday leg. We had a Promenade View Interior and the people watching was top notch. CruiserNic, Neesa, USFFrank and 1 other 3

Okinawa Joe
Just finished a cruise on the Caribbean Princess, great people of all ages, very nice time. Al Miller
Jay over at the Shiplife lamented that he's never seen any imposing looking security on a cruise ship. I've got to imagine at least part of that may be due to the super small crew quarters. I've seen the behind-the-scenes videos and if you are over about 6-2 ft, I can't even imagine how you'd ever even fit in a crew cabin, let alone those tiny beds. Those recent fight videos show the "Security" getting thrown around like nothing by the passengers. Vancity Cruiser

Makes me wonder if they are Security when needed that are actually Asst., Stewards or Vegetable washers or laundry workers ........ when they're not in the Bat Cave. No, I'm not kidding, not that there is anything wrong with those jobs. I would hope that security has some, at least, self defense training and use of non-lethal force as well. While I'm sure that there are some full time security, I'd bet that what I typed above is true. I know a few guys from Philippines who are not that big in height but they know how to look after themselves, and as i keep telling my dearest wife size isnt everything One of the issues nowadays is you cannot just lamp someone even though they do it to you first! Its all about talking them down, being their friend etc because if security is seen to be to hands on they can end up in court. But when your security is just plain not physically strong enough to pull apart several drunks engaged in a brawl, maybe you need to reevaluate. Somebody is going to die or get seriously hurt one of these times and then they will get sued for their lax security for that situation. So I acknowledge its a fine line to walk. One problem today is people video everything. You see police talking to someone and its being recorded by a dozen bystanders or even a street fight where those watching are out with their phones live broadcasting it on social media. Gone are the good old days when you could stick the head on someone and not have to worry about the old bill turning up at your door next day lol Nowadays they turn up 6 months later having trolled through hours of footage. This is why security of any kind have a very hard job...what is the definition of reasonable force? Given the fact its their livelyhood a lot of these people are probably scared to get stuck in as they may think it could result in them being dismissed if its taken further then there are others who be it at sea or on land are just not suitable for the job. smokeybandit
I've seen some medical incidents that required security for crowd control and they really didn't want to get involved. I'd be curious their "rules of engagement" are for incidents like that. CharmMicah68
