Some Questions about Sailing Star Class with Diamond Tier

Recommended Posts

We just finished up a really great cruise in the Mediterranean on board Wonder, and, as a result, we'll be Diamond once the points come through (yay!).

Our next couple of cruises are going to be Star Class, because I'm addicted now, though we will probably grab some in-between cruises to really leverage the Diamond benefits from balcony rooms or junior suites.

My question is really related to sailing Star Class as a Diamond member, though. It seems like, for the most part, the Star Class benefits outshine the Diamond benefits (which makes sense). Are there any perks for Diamond that I should be aware of that could still be leveraged during an SC cruise? Is the 'nightly Diamond event' in the Diamond Lounge worth it? Is the Diamond Lounge itself worth it?

I always cruise Star Class, only one exception, and Star far exceeds the benefits of Diamond.  However, there is the Diamond Lounge.  Not sure about this but, I don't think even Star Class can go into the Diamond Lounge unless they are Diamond as well.  But, the Diamond Lounge is the only thing I can think of.  Oh, there are a couple of other very little things like a lapel pin, maybe a welcome aboard drink with an Officer of the ship.  Maybe a couple of other things.  But Star has many many more benefits.

The Star class perks will outweigh any tier level, even pinnacle. However, if you want to chat or hang with randos the DL and nightly D events might be fun. The snack won't be as good as Star class and you seem young, so you might feel a bit out of place.

Diamond gets a free photo…….

Excellent !  I think this is about the only D perk that Star does not get.  There is a D loyalty gift (bottle of wine or whatever you choose) but it is likely to be outshined by the sheer volume of what Star is entitled to.  I guess if you choose a pair of slippers or a beach towel for your loyalty gift that would be something Star does not get.

I guess we are the lucky ones, we always get Champaign (and we don't drink Champaign) in our suite and we always, except for our last Ovation cruise because of only having one Genie for no more than a couple day at a time, we get a gifts from the Genie.  The last cruise that we got a gift from our Genie was a ceramic model of the Symphony that I have shown pictures of in this forum a couple times.  This last cruise on the Ovation, our room attendant/steward gave each of us slippers, nice slippers.

We only need 3 points to become Diamond.  I'm looking forward to going into the Diamond Lounge just to compare.  I'm sure the Suite Lounge will have a little leg up on the Diamond Lounge, but it will be an option, I like options.

Diamond does not get wine or sparkling wine.  Per Royal Crown and Anchor "The beverage selection list for Emerald and Diamond members will include water,
juice and soda items."  😞

If you have access to the Suite Lounge, then not really.  It's basically the same offerings (snacks at meal times) and the fancy coffee machine.  On Oasis class ships it's handy to be Diamond even when you are Star Class because you can pop into the Diamond Lounge right there by Studio B (except on Allure) and help yourself to specialty coffee and not have to wait or ask for it in the theater.  And it's a good place to duck into when a show lets out to wait out the crowds.

You can give away your Diamond drinks if you're sailing with non-SC folks or have non-SC friends that you are sailing with.

There are offers loaded to your SeaPass card too that you won't get just for being Star Class. There's a 15% discount on $25+ worth of RCCL Logo products you can apply to shop purchases, 20% off a spa service, free add-on spa service, extra free cards with a Bingo package.

I think Diamond gets $4 free play in the casino, D+ gets $6.

You can use your free Diamond day of Surf internet to get a discount towards adding an extra device or having an extra device on the last day.  You need to visit the VOOM desk to set that up correctly.

And as others stated, you get each get a free photo as well.

There are other fringe benies like bridge tours, behind the scenes, Meet the Stars, meal with an officer, the sail away party, and even the Top Tier that the Diamonds “get”. I could go on about things that are not listed.

The truth of the matter is it is impossible to do all these fringe benefits, enjoy the Suite benefits, have entire days spent in ports, enjoy all the other amenities of shows and activities and everything else that goes on during a 7 night cruise. You can’t do it all in a week.

It takes years of vacations to touch all the bases.

It’s the journey, not the destination; enjoy the ride.

Star Class gets the bridge tour, behind the scenes tour (theater), galley tour and so on and so on, not sure about the "sail away party" or "meal with an officer" because it isn't something that I'd pursue.  All a Star Class cruiser has to do is ask his/her Genie, once things get back to normal, if they ever do, for what ever you want.  Genies will actually escort you off the ship at Port's of Call.  What that means, you go through the ship avoiding the crowds and out a different exit/hatch, you're the first off, if you want to be, off the ship first.  The blue towels that you get to go to the pool with and/or to take off the ship while in Ports of Call, you don't have to show/scan your room key card for them.  The attendant sees the color of your card and asks how many.  No extra charge, unlimited, specialty restaurants, no extra charge deluxe drink package, no extra charge internet, the top tier one, for everybody in the suite.  Being met at the entrance to the terminal by the Genie, at your chosen time, and a Star Class porter, not a port porter, take your baggage directly, right after it goes through security, to your suite.  Your luggage is usually there when you get to your suite, which is ready when you embark on the ship, not at 1 or 2 o'clock.  You communicate with your Genie, pre-cruise, and he/she will have waiting in your suite on embarkation day whatever you desire.  Want an Ice Cream social with all the fix'ins, you got it.  Want cold cuts, pastries, a cheese platter, chocolate covered strawberry's, pizza, specialty restaurant entries, beer of your choosing, wine coolers, seltzers, sparkling water, bottled water, or whatever, you got it and they will do it every day of the cruise or any portion thereof, if you want, at no extra charge.  I'm sure I'm leaving out a lot.  That's just off the top of my head.

ALL OF THE ABOVE AT NO EXTRA CHARGE and just for Star Class!  So, there is no comparison between Star Class and the C & A perks.  Once again, I'm not really a Suite Snob, just pointing out the facts because it was asked.

I believe these have all been covid casualties. Meal with an Officer is now "Officer briefly says hi while you're eating a meal"

At least Top Tier events are back
