Number of Passengers For Each Assigned Boarding Times

Recommended Posts

Everyone keeps asking about whether ports are forcing passengers to show up for their assigned boarding times.

This brings up my question: Is there a set number of passengers for each boarding time?

It would be nice to know so that when people arrive at a terminal and their assigned boarding time is in the first group but there are 1,000 people in line ahead of them they know whether boarding times are being enforced.

Using a ship sailing at full 4,000 capacity how many passengers would be expected in each group?

10:30 AM  -   11:00 AM
11:00 AM  -   11:30 AM
11:30 AM  -   12:00 PM
12:00 PM  -   12:30 PM
12:30 PM  -   1:00 PM
1:00 PM  -   1:30 PM
1:30 PM  -   2:00 PM
2:00 PM  -   2:30 PM
2:30 PM  -   3:00 PM

I'm guessing here:  But, I think only Royal can only answer that with any accuracy.  It isn't as easy as taking the number of time slots and dividing it by the number of passengers, too many variables.  You have to factor in Suite guest and other specials, how many are there, that are authorized to enter at 11:00 AM, there abouts.  They probably have algorithms that predict how many will show up late, miss flights, transportation running late to the port, etc etc.

On our last sailing out of Galveston the 10:30 line was very long but when they did open a few minutes late it went rapidly. Seemed several hundred people signed up for the early slot and we were #100. The 11:00 am line was virtually empty compared to the 10:30 line and they got onboard not too long after we did. Wife is thinking we may move our boarding time to 11:00 for the upcoming cruise but more rabid heads prevailed and we are sticking with the earlier slot.
