krumley428
Hello! It’s been a hot minute since we’ve cruised. It’s Day 2 on Symphony, aka Formal Night #1. Is one of the two formal nights “more formal” than the other? I’m aware that is “suggested” and that all types of attire will be displayed. Just wondering if either night is traditionally fancier. Thanks!
Pooch
Well the first is “formal” night, the second is “dress your best”. There are many opinions on exactly what that means. Nicci and ChessE4
SpeedNoodles
"Formal nights" are a hot mess on Royal Caribbean. It's all a matter of interpretation. You'll see shorts to tuxes. You do whatever makes you happiest. WAAAYTOOO
YOLO
@krumley428 Welcome to the Royal Caribbean Blog Forum! I agree with @Pooch and @SpeedNoodles. With that in mind and our cruise from last month and this month, I would say that my experience is that the first formal night on day 2 seems to be a bit more "formal" than the second "Dress To Impress" formal night. Also, it seems to us that there are more formal dress participants on day 2. Just our experience...
smokeybandit
You're more likely to see people dressed up on the first formal night, but you'll see the full gamut both nights. WAYNO, WAAAYTOOO and USFFrank

Thanks! If it's been a while since you cruised, you will notice that both are less formal than 10 years ago. In general, the world is less dressy than it was. You will still see people dressed up, but I rarely see Tuxedos and formal dresses.
melmar02
We use the first formal night as our dressier one. By the second one on day 6, we don't feel like putting as much effort into it. USFFrank, aubtfan and WAYNO
ChessE4
Frankly, for us lobster night is more formal, or perhaps James Bond night in the casino, though I no longer pack a tux. Three years ago we found the 2nd formal night was also White Night, and there were a lot of spiffy white outfits on display in the MDR and promenade throughout the evening! endofturn
I'm more dressed up the second night. First one I wear a dress shirt and tie, second I add a vest to the ensemble to cover up any food stains from the first night.
