Anyone Else Make This Mistake???

So after many years or only ever booking a indoor cabin, last October we "finally booked" our first ever balcony room on the Symphony. Needless to say, we REALLY loved it. My wife said she can't ever go back to an inside cabin now!!!

Well???? Now??? I decided to book our first ever Junior Suite for our next cruise on the Harmony of the Seas! I have a fear that now "I" will never be able to go back to a standard balcony 🤣 Anyone ever make this mistake?? I better not ever book the next level up otherwise I'm sure to be in big trouble!!! 🤣🤣🤣

Not so far. Our go to cabin type has always been "cheapest with a window". In the beginning, that would usually be an ocean view in the bowels of the ship or a promenade view cabin on the ships that have them. When we hit D, that opened up balcony discounts, which have sometimes worked out cheaper than non-balcony. But even when we have a balcony, we practically only go out there the first day to take a pic and thereafter only to hang out wet swimwear out. Maybe someday, if I ever win a Royal Up to a suite... 🤣

I don't know that a JS will give you the "suite bug", as it's really more of an extra large balcony. Very nice to have that space, but it's not like Star Class or some of the larger suites.

Then again, everyone has to start somewhere!

It's baby steps for me!!!🤣🤣🤣 My wife also loves baths, so I know this will be a hit with her!!!

We suites snobs all started out this way.  It's a sadly progressive condition for which there is no cure.  Because misery loves company, I cannot even advise you not to do it !  Don't worry.  Your next step (after the JS) will be the full suite and from there, there is absolutely no return.  Be afraid....be very afraid....

Going from a Balcony to a JS is just a step up in room size. Not a lot of perks to go along with it unless you consider getting to board before the rest of the unknowing a major perk (I will say boarding early has become one of the wife's major points). It is the next step up with it's perks that you should be afraid of. Once she experiences that, there is never going back.

Double points never hurts either!! That's a nice perk for sure 👍

We booked a Grand Suite quite a few years ago and while it was nice we felt it was too much for us.  A JS fits us fine and for us the bath tub/shower was the selling point and the C&A double points for booking a suite was icing on the cake.  I look at balcony cabins from time to time but just can't pull the trigger to book one.

We have never had a Grand Suite. But we book the Junior Suite for the same reasons as you. Not all the time but sometimes. In between everything from an inside room to a balcony. Our next cruise will be on the Symphony with a virtual balcony.

My personal warning is the "higher room" or class the harder it is to go back....

We always did smaller ships with RC and we finally just before Covid we did a newer ship (Anthem) we bid and were in a Star Class!  YIKES, since then we have sailed a few other times and not in Star class, so we are now saving every penny, nickel, and dime so we can do Star Class again.

We are sailing on the Radiance doing Alaska this year (hopefully 3rd time is a charm) and no Star Class, best part is the ship has no Star Class so it is easier to take if you know what I mean.

Initially I started out in balcony rooms on Disney before moving to a 1BR Concierge Suite.  When I moved I’ve to RCCL I started out in a Grand Suite, then a Crown Loft Suite. More escalation on Disney took us to the Roy O. Disney Suite and I thought I would be ruined forever. This summer we did a 2BR Grand Suite when cruising started back up. We just finished our first STAR Class experience on the Oasis in a Sky Loft Suite (although slightly confused booking online said Star Loft) and I know I am ruined forever. We are now booked for a 2BR Aqua Theater Suite for next Spring Break!!! Welcome to the dark side!!

How does one get into the Casino Comp side of the house?? My new found Star addiction might be in need of some alternatives!

You just have to gamble enough to reach at least the Prime level with the casino rewards program.  If you plan on gambling anyway, it’s definitely worth the investment. If you’re not a gambler it might not be a good path.

Did the virtual balcony on Anthem, I thought it was great.

Made the mistake of booking a GS for our first cruise in 20 years.  Then we tried a spacious balcony on a short cruise with our grandson.  OMG I could barely move in there.  OS on Harmony last month and now I know I can’t go back.  We will manage in a JS (I hope!) in October to get to Diamond.  But I’m already looking to upgrade that.  It’s an addiction.😢😢

I got my email about Royal Up last week.  Since we are cruising with the family (3 cabins) we won't be doing Royal Up.  I love sitting or standing on the balcony (I'm out there a lot) - it's my happy place.  Not sure if I would ever Royal Up really because I keep thinking I would rather use that money to book another cruise...but never say never 😋

Are the discounts that good to upgrade to suites and star class? I have done the balcony and JS upgrades with my prime discounts, but I wonder what the savings are like for sky and star class.
