Antigen test requirements Europe?

Recommended Posts

In regards to the requirements below:

I am from Europe and we have several options for a Antigen test to take at home (with an official certificate). Much like (but not the same as) the eMed tests. I says nowhere what the Antigen (or PCR) test requirements are (like what kind of certificate). Does anybody know?

If we can take the video Home test from our own country this would be much more convenient and cheaper as well.

REQUIRED TESTING FOR GUESTS SAILING FROM BARCELONA

All Guests: Required Pre-Cruise Testing

All guests sailing from Barcelona, Spain will need to take a test before boarding, as detailed below.

  • Vaccinated guests who are up to date must show a negative result for a PCR or antigen test taken no more than 2 days before boarding day. Vaccinated guests who are not up to date will have a 1 day window to take this test.  Kids age 5 to 11 who have been vaccinated may present proof of full vaccination and follow the testing protocols for vaccinated guests. For detailed information on Europe’s requirements for an up to date vaccination status, visit our Europe Vaccine Requirements FAQ
  • Unvaccinated kids age 2 to 11 will be required to take a complimentary antigen test at the terminal and must receive a negative result in order to sail. Registration details will be sent via email in advance.
  • Guests under 2 years of age do not need to complete a pre-cruise test.

eMed Tests Kits for Travelers

Through our testing partners, U.S.-based vaccinated guests may purchase antigen test kits for vaccinated guests that you can complete online with a supervised virtual video visit, wherever you are, 24 hours 7 days a week to meet travel testing requirements for cruise or flight.

During the Cruise

In addition to the pre-cruise test, guests age 12 and up who are considered not up to date with their vaccination, or are not vaccinated with an EMA-authorized vaccine, will require additional testing to be completed onboard at their own expense, in order to go ashore in select countries. To learn more about requirements by port, please visit our Europe Port Testing Requirement FAQ

Prior to Disembarking

Guests 12 and up that are not up to date with their vaccinations will take an antigen test within one day before disembarkation day. Guests will be notified onboard about how to register for this test. The cost of the test is at their own expense, conducted onboard by a licensed third-party testing provider at a cost of $55 USD per test. Royal Caribbean does not retain any part of the testing costs.

I would assume any test results that would work for air travel to countries that require them are going to work to board the ship.

They have details outlined for the North American embarkation of what has to be in those results but the important things they are checking for are name, date of birth, date test taken, result and type of test. It has to be printed with the name of the lab/testing facility.

Hopefully they will clarify more to spell it out for folks sailing outside of the US like they do here:

WE are going a cruise in June leaving from Rome and so far it looks like we have to do a test within 48 hours before boarding.   We will be in Rome for two nights prior just wondering how we can go about this?   Also what do you do if you do not have a smart phone?  All suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

First option: ask your hotel or locate and ask at a pharmacy. Also there are testing options at the airport. (Finally, keep an eye on the "2 days" requirement as I have seen it both 2 days and 1 day before...) Good luck!

Also this is on the website:

"Supervised telehealth tests are not accepted for unvaccinated guests – only for vaccinated guests"

I didnt think un vaccinated could cruise?

Oh its aimed at children, ignore that.

It's not 48 hours for Italy; it's no more than one day before. So if you sail on, for example, a Saturday, you need to get the test done on the Friday or Saturday before you board.

Pharmacies do antigen tests in Italy. You can find the ones nearest your hotel by zooming in on the map here:

To be clear, for US citizens wishing to enter Europe from the US,  there is no simple, one answer fits all European countries wrt applications to enter, what will work for proof of vaccination, time limits for vaccination and COVID mitigation measures in place. The rule is, things change constantly and rapidly.

There are a bunch of web sites that track this stuff for US citizens wanting to travel to Europe. The one below is pretty good. For each country being listed here, you'll get a summary of "what's new" with COVID related travel and a link to a country web site where more detail is available. DOn't miss this. It is intended to inform and encourage travel into and within the country you choose.

The EU has done a decent job of creating a single mechanism - the EU digital COVID pass that's an App on your phone. It contains a QR code with your COVID/Vax status that is kept updated by you as you receive COVID vaccines or recover from COVID. Problem for US citizens wanting to travel freely within the EU and European Common Market region is that you can't get one.

Because of that, US citizens have extra hurdles to cross when entering Europe and crossing boarders within it on your way to your cruise port. Not insurmountable. Workable if you're paying attention.
