Worst cruise ever

Recommended Posts

I’m on the Harmony of the sea right now! Worst cruise for Royal I’ve had.  Nothing seems to be on time, dining room staff is very confused at our table it seems and food isn’t that good. Ryde classes are a joke!  Heading to Coco Cay currently, booked a cabana, paperwork says get it at 9:45 , staff says not til 10:45.  Lost an hour of a very expensive place.  Frustrated overall.

I hate that that is happening to you.  I'm on Harmony in November and I sure hope that they get all the kinks ironed out by then.

I've been concerned about my next cruise in 27 days on the Ovation, Alaska.  It's only its second cruise of the Alaska season and they have some old veteran crew but a bunch of newbies too.  I sure hope they are all trained up by our cruise and things go well.  We paid a lot for this cruise and I'm hoping we aren't paying for excuses.  But, believe it or not, I'm positive about it.  I always have little concerns in the back of my mind that come out every now and then.

I've stated in the past that there are a whole bunch of people that are C.C. malcontents.  They like to migrate over to other social media sites and create discontent and false evaluations of cruise companies and some of their public spokespersons.  John Heald, from Brand X, was brutalized by some of them.  He knew how to handle it though.  He'd cross reference them from C.C. and expose them.

I haven't seen that on Matt's live blog yet, but maybe he deletes them quickly.  I love how Matt responds, I don't always agree with him, but I do respect his knowledge and loyalty to this forum and his blog.

It's hard to believe that some people are so dissatisfied with their own life that they have to try to make other people miserable, too.

My advice for everyone right now is expect the worst and things will be good.  The cruise industry has been shut down for 2 years.  They have new people in new roles and are trying to get things working again with different protocols.  Go into your cruise expecting people to be learning and disorganized.   Then when something works well you will be happy.  The perfect example is expecting the boarding of the ship to take 4 to 5 hours and have you setting around.  When you get on the ship you will not get your luggage until 11 pm at night.  Then when you get through boarding and your luggage is in your room at 2 pm you will think you had the best boarding ever.  If your boarding takes 2 hours and you have your luggage at 5 pm you think things are not bad.  When the boarding takes 4 hours, and your luggage is lost you can say i expected that.

I'm glad that the food isn't good.  I gained too much weight on my cruise last month because the food was really good.  Now that they have made the change to bad food, I will be good on my June cruise.

I am curious as well if the OP is a one and done.

Someone else recently basically made the exact same complaint a few weeks ago. Another account that signed up just to complain. It's a little fishy, to be honest unless this person starts actually engaging otherwise.

I've said in the past, that in some ways, this message board and RCCL are kind of like a family.  RCCL is the parents, and we, the posters who have been here for a while, are the kids.  Amongst ourselves, we are allowed to discuss and even criticize our parents.  But, when some drive by comes on here to complain about our parents, we will defend them.

Who knows what the motive is.  I think most of the time the OP doesn't even understand this is a fan forum.

I might also mention, the OP claims this was the "worst cruise ever".  I can think of plenty of cruises that were way worse than this one.  Today is April 17.  One in particular ended rather suddenly 110 years and 2 days ago that I'm sure was way worse.

The SS America circa 1978 is a runner up, those passengers would have loved to have a one hour delay on coco cay as their biggest problem.

Of my 10 or so cruises since October 2021, Mariner has been the worst. For the first time ever, we had crew members telling us how bad the ship management was. The ship did not have positive vibes. We cancelled a subsequent cruise last month on her. Brilliance, Independence, and Wonder were all pretty good. I want to hear the bad and the good to help me make informed decisions.

A reliable poster over on cc is reporting such things an uncleaned cabins with no towels or sheets! 😬

Surely if you went out in the morning and came back to cabin later on to an unmade bed and no fresh towels etc you would just ask for it to be made up?

Time it would take someone to write and post a complaint on CC they could be down to guest services raised issue then grabbed a slice of pizza and a beer or 2 😀

Takes the time to create an account, just to complain………….

Posts like the one above or posts that ask really elementary questions are made by one person inside Royal to make sure this Blog is providing the information Royal wants its' guests to hear.

Will be interesting if Kimberly posts ever again. People still have a 2019 mentality for expectations when it comes to the service industry. News flash, it will be years if ever before we get back to the way it was then in terms of staffing and service. This is true of all industries not just cruising. It’s a crappy new age in this country after the great resignation. Just be happy to be cruising at all.

You would, yes, but it was way more than that. This was on boarding. Rooms had not been prepared for guests' arrival and were dirty and unequipped with linens and towels even though this was the ship's first sailing after the shutdown.

I do, yes. The OP in question is a very seasoned cruiser and trustworthy poster with 12.8k posts to their name on CC. Their story is backed up by another seasoned cruiser and trustworthy poster who is also on board and has 6.8k posts to their name. They are not the one-and-done types who sign up purely for the sake of complaining and both are people who regularly provide useful and helpful information.

OMG, I feel you on this. Mariner was my first RCG ship and it was right after her amp, so I loved her. Fast forward to Jan 2022 and she was the worst of my cruise experiences since the restart. I had the UDP and the Jamie's was bad, burnt and undercooked food. Crew members who were sick and unhappy. A casino that took my money and wouldn't let me win. I too had future cruises I was going to take with her that were changed.

Until I see @kimberleymarshpost again, I will believe it to be a one and done complainer.

Hm, do you think we might be talking at cross purposes? The sailing I've been talking about isn't the same one that the OP on THIS thread posted about. She's talking about Harmony and I've been referring to Voyager, currently repositioning from Barcelona to Copenhagen, which I happened to mention by way of comparison.

This is where you lost me. There is a reason I'm on this site and stopped looking at that one.

Haha, I do get your meaning but there are a few reliable posters over there (me, for one 😛). Over the years I have learned to just gloss over the many trolls.

However, I much, much, much prefer the friendly atmosphere on these boards. I only tend to post over there if I have something useful to say, whereas I like to join in the banter here. 😊

I agree

It has crossed my mind that these hit and run posters only do so to cause rifts or debates that end up in arguments just for their enjoyment of it turning into CC.

These posts have to be authorised if it was me i would read them then make a unbiased decision whether to allow them onto blog or throw them in the bin where they belong lol

The post-cruise survey would be an opportunity to give Royal feedback on specific items.  In the meantime, try to take note of the crew members who give you good service (get their full name) and be sure they know they made your day.  At Coco Cay, we avoid the cabanas and enjoy a spot on the beach, lots of fun in the water at no extra cost!.

Goodness, I’d feel like I was right at home! Unmade bed and used towels? Facts of life. I’ve read that some of these stewards are tidying up twice a day. Wow!

And the service industry is very happy with this. Because they can reduce costs and charge more for less and the majority of the people isn't going to complain because they are just happy to be cruising.

I think that the industry have to get their s.... together. If they are charging the same or more than before they shouldn't be giving a lesser service.
