Miami Boutique Hotel & Car Rental Questions

Recommended Posts

Hello all!

I know this may have been asked ad nauseum so mea culpa in advance.

My wife and I will be taking a cruise on the Enchantment this October out of Miami. It will our first time out of PoM. As such I wanted to find a nice boutique hotel for the evening before embarkation. I have a couple of major hotels in mind but wanted something kind of cool and hip.

ALSO I've wondered about renting a car. PoM (if my homework is correct) is not like PC in that we can rent a car at MCO and return it near the port. So my question is this: how does one rent a car and return it on embarkation day? Or is it even worth it if we are only going to be there for a day? I do not know how spread out Miami is or if cab/shuttle fares are reasonable.

Thanks in advance.

Murphmatic, I'm not sure what you consider hip or cool (or how much you're willing to pay for it !)....but my very favorite place to stay in all of southern Florida is the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Hollywood.  It is pricey, though....and it would mean a bit more of a drive (either private or cab) if you are flying into MIA but it's worth the extra time and money (to me, anyway) for the excitement and fun of the Hard Rock.  Of course, you could consider flying into FLL instead of MIA if you decide you do want to stay at the HR.  I guess it's a longer drive, either way...either from the airport or from the hotel.

The thing I like about the cab fare from the airport in MIA to the cruise port is that it is a flat fee (we paid $27 last week from the airport to the cruise port).  That way, if the traffic sucks, the fare does not necessary suck UP in direct proportion to the length of your ride !  I'm not an Uber user so I don't know how much those fares are.

Personally, I would not rent a car for a 1 overnight stay - and if you stay at the HR you will not need one anyway...there are so many things to do and see right on the property.  I would just do the cab or Uber thing and forget the car rental UNLESS you are planning on doing some sightseeing or some other activities (you didn't mention that, so I assumed you are not).

You could do a combo.  Fly into FLL, stay at the HR, get a ride (cab or Uber) from the HR to the port, cab or Uber from the port to the airport in Miami and fly home out of MIA.

Lots of cool boutique hotels in South Beach. We're going for our first time next month, chose the Impala hotel. Looks cool to us, plus close the the main strip.

Whichever you choose you may want to book early, we booked long in advance for 200 a night and then seen prices at 500, give or take.

Cool! Let me know how you like the hotel.
