When I use this benefit, can I split into two separate days (24 hours each)?  I'm going on a 4N cruise and I was wondering if I could spread out this benefit.

Yes, you get a credit of $51.98 that can be used towards Voom. 24 continuous hours of Surf access happens to be $25.99.

If the data I have is correct, buying surf Voom on Day 2 should be $1.99 out of pocket for the remaining portion of the voyage if the full $51.98 credit was available.

Wow.  I’m glad I resisted answering @PG Cruiserb/c I would have said “no”.  I thought the days had to be continuous.  I learned something today !

Whenever I used my free VOOM, there was no payment/purchase transaction involved, that's why I've never seen it as a credit.  I just go to the VOOM desk and they activate my free VOOM.  But being D+ now,  I want to stagger the use of my free VOOM so I don't have to buy a VOOM package.

I've never dealt with the VOOM desk. I just connect to Wifi and follow the prompts to create an account and then specify what package I wish to purchase.

Just remember, you can't purchase two 24 hour "packages" at once. They have to be purchased separately. Once the first 24 segment runs out you'll be prompted to buy a new package at next login. Packages are either "remaining voyage" or "24 hour access". On occasion the last day might have another package for 30 minutes or a hour access intended for use with checking for flights or other short term use needs.

I was never able to activate my free VOOM on my own.  I always needed assistance from the VOOM desk.  I don't know if this has to do having a VOOM package pre-paid on top of the free one I'm getting.  On embarkation day, as I was setting up my VOOM account, I did see the two options - the free one and the pre-paid one.  But once I selected the pre-paid one, the free option disappeared.

Ahh, that would explain the VOOM desk visit. I've never tried to purchase an additional package if I already had a pre-paid one.

I actually asked the VOOM guy on the Wonder about this.  I told him people (here) have been saying that they were able to access their free VOOM without assistance.  He looked surprised.

You can access your CAS Voom benefit without assistance unless you pre-purchased a Voom plan in the cruise planner.  In that case it requires a visit to use the CAS onboard Voom perk.

Yeah, that is always my case.  I see them accessing a menu and then they upgrade my (pre-paid) 1-Device Package into a 2-Device Package.  Some VOOM agents are nice, they give me the Surf & Stream instead of just the Surf.

@twangster, do you know if I can stagger the use of my two free days?

Moving off topic slightly but now I'm learning new things.

Someone explain the "prepurchased a package" and now applying the D+ benefit comment ..

I was under the impression that I can either prepurchase the internet package and get that discount OR wait until I get onboard and then use my D+ benefit but not get the benefit of the cheaper packages offered precruse.

This almost sounds like i can have the best of both worlds for a change ??

I’m Diamond plus.  I’ve seen nowhere to get a discounted package because of my level prior to boarding.

I do know I can get it discounted onboard but I’ve not looked yet to know if the sale price I’ve got online is better or worse than what I would pay with the discount onboard.  When I was Diamond (1free day of Voom) I did look to see if my sale price was better than onboard and it was, however it was a great sale price I had gotten on Black Friday, so hard to beat that!

Still can't have the best of both worlds. Think what was trying to be accomplished was having Voom pre-purchased and then have the ability to add another device for a 24 hour period. Example: One device Voom Surf and Stream bought online. Then during the sailing a 24 hour period of Surf for a single device. Giving the opportunity to have two devices connected.

So you pre-purchase your internet package through plan my cruise before the cruise? and then you go to voom desk to get the free 1-2 days (diamond or diamond plus) activated manually by them so then you can use it on another device? Am I correct?

Last time I pre-purchased my internet and couldn't figure out to use my free day on another device and just "lost" it... so I could have gone to voom desk to get it done? Good to know. I hope I understand it correctly 🙂

Both my wife and I are diamond... and I usually purchase one package then we both use it by swapping devices in package... but she uses one day free from her free day but I always lost my free day... but seems like we can use package and then my free day as well. Soon going for Diamond Plus so having 2 extra free days for another device is really something I am looking forward to.

Below has been my experience, and we all know it can vary from ship to ship.

I pre-purchase internet, at whatever price is in the cruise planner.  It’s cheaper than buying onboard and applying my 2 D+ days,

the  2 D+ free days have not shown as an option when I log in onboard, OR I’m blind to it.

when I want to use my 2 D+ days I have to visit the VOOM desk-when they are open, to get this done.  I am currently on Symphony, the assistant asked if I wanted both days at the same time (bundled) or if I wanted just one day for now..  I expressly asked that they NOT activate my one day but just add it to my account, so I can activate my 24 hours when I was ready.    be aware, this is my second cruise where the clock started when they added the pass to my account.  I lost 7 hours of usage.  Yes-go back, when open, and ask for more time😡 because standing on line is my favorite thing to do!  . Btw I took a pic of the computer screen showing I had 17 hours available when I logged in, so I could show him.  They can also see what devices you’ve ever logged into/so don’t  try to lie about usage.

other “issues” I’ve had.:

Voom specialist  said that you can just access your free days yourself,-not true if you purchased a package.

said I could make up a new username/password for my free day-you cannot, all access begins with your  first  name and cabin#

Said  you can’t have your days because you have a package (not true)

Said  you received your D+ discount prior to boarding when you purchased in the cruise planner -SO NOT TRUE-3 people insisted this on Enchantment , from Guest services, Diamond concierge and a manager at guest services. (There was no Voom assistant) I finally persisted with the Guest service boss who made a behind the scenes inquiry and came out and apologized and my 2days (only 2 days left on the cruise) were added to my account.

I had one very nice specialist transfer my 2 free days directly to my husbands account, since we were “in the same cabin”.  However, we had to go to her for each 24 hour pass.

they really ought to load these onto our accounts, and WE activate it.  It’s ridiculous to have to go visit and stand  on a line -twice no less- to ask for something that’s yours. typically I’m not up for the morning session….so if I wanted my  internet to begin at noon I have to get up early to see them before they close shop in the morning.
I do put this complaint in the survey.

on Anthem last month, when the internet was most abysmal ever, Guest services called the Voom  specialist to activate my 24 hour pass.  (the specialist had said to come at 5 but they were closed that hour!)

side story.  I recognized one of The Voom assistant on Symphony was from Anthem last year.  We discussed how bad service was on her last year, and I told him it was worse last month.  He couldn’t believe it was worse!  I also told him my first day of the 24 hour package, promised by his coworker to start when I logged in, had cheated me 7 hours since it started when it was transferred to me and I hadn’t attempted to use it until 7 hours later so he added 7 hours to my next 24 hour pass, which was perfect because that 24 hour pass also started the minute he added it to my account and I didn’t log in until later!

Internet on this Symphony transatlantic has been phenomenal.  Except on occasion where the royal Caribbean page can’t be opened….

Based on all that, I'm going to hazard a guess that not very many people take advantage of those free VOOM days (due to whatever combination of not caring, not needing, or already having a package) leading to the staff not having enough experience in how to apply them correctly.

We just learned how to do it ourselves on our recent Wonder sailing.  Psycho always get the internet package and I use his free two days along with mine.  We used to have to visit the internet desk but this time the gentleman showed us how to do it ourselves.  Psycho logs into the Wi-Fi on my device with his info and then he selects his free days and enters a pin code...Which we save so my phone remembers it.  I use his two days and then I will create my own account for my two days.

On our recent Wonder cruise, the only option it gave us was to select 48 hours.  I'm sure you could get it divided by visiting the internet desk.

Can you talk us through that in teeny tiny baby steps please? I don't understand how he is able to see his free days if he has a pre-purchased package.

I’ll try.   When he first logs on to the WiFi using his last name and DOB, he is offered a couple of choices.   Use his free 48 hours or use his purchased 7 day package.  He selects the paid 7 day package and sets up his account by entering a user name and a PIN number.   Then he logs to the WiFi  on to my device once again using his last name and DOB and again is offered the same two choices but this time he selects to use his 48 hours establishing a different user name and PIN number which my device saves so I can log on without having to enter his username and PIN code.   He could have also logged on to his package on my phone and we could share it but only one of us could be online at one time.   When you try to log on and another device is connected…It’ll tell device limit reached and ask if you want to switch devices.

Now this was on the Wonder and on other ships, we alway had to go to the WiFi desk to get them to do it.

Thanks. I've never seen it offer both options when you have a package. I wonder if it is just on Wonder or if they've finally fixed the issue across the fleet. Just over a month to go and I can test it on Anthem.  👍

On our last cruise VOOM was available on the RC app. The wife and I are both C&A members so we both were able to activate our free VOOM perk anytime we wanted and it terminated 24 hours later. We juggled it with WiFi access at some ports and ended up using it during a day at sea to catch up with family etc.

You can check with your phone provider but most Caribbean islands charge little or nothing for texting and data.

Yes, that is what I was told I should do.  I go to the VOOM desk so they can activate my free VOOM.
