Charlette
My husband has the alcohol package and I have the refreshment package because I maybe drink 3 drinks a year. I read that if I buy a drink on our cruise they will automatically charge me for the deluxe package. Is that true or just rumor?
Ampurp85
No, they won't force you into buying a whole package.
bytheseashorenb
I'm the same way. I usually only want a glass of wine with dinner. I am on medication so I am very careful. My husband just purchased the drink pkg and I am getting the refreshment pkg. I was worried if I did decide to have a drink that I wouldn't be allowed or charged for the pkg. TMatl
I thought RC required both people in the cabin to have the UDP? I didn’t think only one of the party could get it.

KJones
You can't purchase the DBP and a refreshment combo online via the Cruise Planner. You will have to call and tell them you want 1 DBP and 1 Refreshment package. If you do end up having an alcoholic beverage, they should only charge you for the difference (not the entire drink) with the Refreshment package. There is no "difference" to charge, you will pay full price for the alcoholic beverage, but won't be automatically upgraded to the deluxe package. In the days before the D+ vouchers, we regularly cruised with DBP for me and Refreshment for my wife. She would get a glass of wine here and there, never had any problems. KJones
@TXcruzerif you have the refreshment package and order an alcoholic cocktail, they will charge you for the price difference between a mocktail and cocktail... bytheseashorenb

I have NEVER experienced this. What if you order a wine, or a beer? What if there is no equivalent "mocktail" to base the difference on? KJones
@TXcruzerThen I guess our experiences have differed
Charlette
I certainly dont mind paying the full price for my drink but I dont want to be charged for the DBP. I have heard people say they will do that if you have an "exemption" and order a drink.
