After unpacking we headed up to the lime and coconut. I was the organizer of a Facebook group for our sailing, and we were having what was supposed to be a sail away meet and greet. I got to meet many people in the group and had many cocktails. Unfortunately, there were more than 200 people that did not complete their muster requirements, so sail away was delayed. Soon enough though, it was time for dinner and Derick had us in Coastal Kitchen for filet night. This time I remembered to let my camera have its bites first.

Here was the menu

IMG_1935.thumb.jpeg.551bbb4c829750b82c7efa88e901cf2a.jpeg

Appetizers that we ordered were the burrata, the crispy pork belly, a Caesar salad and the escargots.

I did not take a picture of the escargot.

All of us ordered the filet, and @Lovetocruise2002 it did not disappoint.

I will do a comparison of filet across the ship and see how they all rank. It's a burden, but someone has to do it.

At this point we were all pretty full. Heather and I shared a creme brûlée for dessert. Sadly, I feel fleet wide, this is a dessert that they do not do well, as it was at best, just okay.

@Lovetocruise2002We set sail during dinner, so unfortunately I did not get to really see the great skyline as we left as I was distracted by my tasty meal. I did get this shot later

IMG_1948.thumb.jpeg.ed6b455f2aeed8b820a498fb2540a23d.jpeg

After dinner, we explored the ship a little bit more.

We came back to our first towel Animal

Tonight, we saw in the main theater the headliner show of Mo5aic. They are an a'capella group that had competed on Americas Got Talent, and they were really good. The beatboxer in the group was outstanding, and I liked them more than I thought I would. After a looooonnnnng day. It was finally time for bed.

Day 2 I woke up early before everyone else and went up by el loco fresh to update the blog. We are at Perfect Day at Coco Cay. I just love this view early in the morning.

IMG_1950.thumb.jpeg.98ee35e5f6ce6510342f80647b2e3396.jpeg

Odyssey backing in next to us.

IMG_1951.thumb.jpeg.d0b8ce9648763871a69f29e3b3f564b7.jpeg

As promised, our breakfast was delivered to our room with our Starbucks order...I'm going to miss this in a week

Derick met us at boarding area and escorted us off the ship. He arranged for a tram to take us right to the back club where we had a floating cabana booked.

Once on the dock, you can really feel the scale of these ships.

IMG_1953.thumb.jpeg.b675d8139424cbdba25bf71283868738.jpeg

Derick arranged for us to have cabana number 11. This was in the second group of floating cabanas, all the way to the left. He said it was a good spot because of fewer neighbors, but its a loooonnng walk to the bathrooms.

IMG_1955.thumb.jpeg.9071dbdded1b16bd3fb703c442177f09.jpeg

You also have these bastards judging you each time you walk by.

Here was our cabana

IMG_1958.thumb.jpeg.46a9d623f73dbf995a189b35f72fa2df.jpeg

Julie quickly assumed the "I'm relaxing" position

IMG_1959.thumb.jpeg.b9f160ee32975f7bc999e93dd8eb405f.jpeg

Lydia had to test out the slide

And the hammock

Our mini bar is stocked with drinks

IMG_1961.thumb.jpeg.02b058c92c59eec32ffb3c9f80428e78.jpeg

Our attendant showed us how to pair our phones to the cabana with this touchpad, and soon we had music playing

IMG_1960.thumb.jpeg.62c3ede4c3ed771997e3732bf32326b7.jpeg

Lydia and Johnny wanted to check out the infinity pool, so we headed over there. We met a family who was on Odyssey who had kids similar in ages to mine, and the kids quickly became friends and we ended up doing a lot of things with them. While the kids were playing in the pool, I was sitting on the ledge staying cool while putting away Goomba Smashes like it was my job and just chatting away with their dad. He is new to cruising with Royal Caribbean after doing a B2B on the ship with the Rats, and he said he just doesn't see the value in that line anymore and is a RC cruiser for life now. Good choice I told him.

IMG_1968.thumb.jpeg.b4d36387020f46d6d70ac436d83a6c93.jpeg

Soon enough it was lunch time. We had a great cabana attendant who was very attentive and had great suggestions for us. We had water park passes today too, so he said he would bring us a bunch of appetizers first, then we could go to the water park for a few hours and then bring more food after, which we quickly agreed was a good plan.

The attendants use these bikes to bring everything out to you, and they jokingly call themselves Uber Eats.

IMG_1967.thumb.jpeg.fd9d3a9d236cc8b8a436ce172bf8a09e.jpeg

Our pre-lunch arrived and as promised he brought all of the appetizers.

IMG_1972.thumb.jpeg.966763ac2e3d714496131dddb63f00b3.jpeg

IMG_1973.thumb.jpeg.6b99b033c6b4a028e7c64384cb72c096.jpeg

He also brought lobsters for Julie and I

IMG_1975.thumb.jpeg.d7adfdc514a32bcb71d4dceaed46a15d.jpeg

Lydia got the filet, so of course I tried some.

IMG_1974.thumb.jpeg.0c5f3932a8a0fcfccf9cdff80c985d6f.jpeg

and Johnny got a huge bowl of Mac and Cheese, chicken fingers and fries.

IMG_1971.thumb.jpeg.5c5433e0c51cfa6cab70e43fcb3e07c7.jpeg

Once we ate, Julie, the kids and I headed to the water park. Heather was spending her day in the cabana and had no interest in the water park. We arranged to also go with the family we met over by the infinity pool.

Julie and I hung out with Johnny because he is only now tall enough to do most of these slides while Lydia was off with her new friends. Even with two ships there the lines weren't bad, but we chose the wrong slide to do first. We chose to do the sling-shot slide, which has the longest line of all the slides. While it was fun, it was not worth the wait, especially since Johnny then decided he would rather spend his time in the adventure pool, and the wave pool. I did manage to get on the tower and did the tallest slide. That slide is FAST, but be warned, it's also slightly painful. You feel every joint section as you go down

Once we returned to the cabana, second such was brought, Julie and I were still full from our first lunch, but not so full that we couldn't eat another lobster, so we asked for that, and the attendant brought 3. Heather also while we were gone ordered the crispy lobster sandwich, so I was able to have a few bites of that as well.

These guys were hoping for left overs, they were out of luck.

IMG_1970.thumb.jpeg.b34c65b0664d9370e1c54be24fdfb81b.jpeg

On one of our trips to the bathroom, we saw these guys. Johnny was surprised that there were chickens on the island. I said to him, where do you think they got the chicken for your lunch?

The rest of the day was spent relaxing. The friends that Lydia and Johnny made swam over to our cabana to use the slide.

Sadly our day was winding down and we had to head back too the ship. We bought the tram from to back club, and then walked the pier to burn a couple of calories.

Odyssey was still there and you can appreciate how big these Oasis Class ships are.

Perfect Day at Coco Cay is a great name for here, because as we were headed back to the ship, we were all discussing how great the day was, and that it truly was a perfect day.

Up next was dinner at Izumi and Aqua 80.

Lobster count 4

Filet ranking

1st place Coastal Kitchen 2nd place Coco Beach Club

We sailed away from Coco Cay at full gas. Turns out there was a medical emergency on board and we are returning to Miami to offload that passenger. We got ready for dinner and headed of to Izumi for dinner. This should be interesting since I am still full from lunch, and second lunch. Plus we arrived back to our room and were met with snacks.

IMG_1980.thumb.jpeg.592898630ffb67ba70aa28ed6b471506.jpeg

Down to dinner we went. Our "Japanese" Chef from the Philippines was very entertaining. He had a quip for everything that was supposed to be "Japanese" ie, his master who trained him from Japan, was named Jose, and our ingredients were Japanese vegetables...from Costco etc. Johnny was a bit grumpy from being tired, and a little sunburned, but the chef quickly had him laughing and engaged.

IMG_1985.thumb.jpeg.b774f1d046ccd6b35417a41dd9cb448f.jpeg

He made a flower, and did all the traditional Hibachi things. No flaming volcano, because fire on ships is not a good thing.

IMG_1983.thumb.jpeg.50a89572f73da0b636974920d6eea96f.jpeg

For dinner, I ordered the filet. Thankfully, the portions that were served were not insane like other hibachi places I have been to, and everything tasted amazing. Sadly we were not able to try any of their signature cocktails because they did not have any Sake on board!!!!

I got the mochi for dessert and remembered why I usually don't order these. They tasted good, but that outer layer is weird.

IMG_1986.thumb.jpeg.c078fc9f949acfdb0294077a0470f5d0.jpeg

Afterwards, we walked off some more calories. The rooster tail of the ship is really impressive when you are going full speed. This picture does not do it justice.

IMG_1987.thumb.jpeg.7b9212f9658fb88209d74f6a386798d1.jpeg

When it was time for Aqua80, Derick reserved us front row seats. There was a slight rain shower just before the show, so Johnny was cocooning himself while he ate some sorbet from sugar beach.

IMG_1990.thumb.jpeg.3e8839f542b4ae04b96c117a2e2b6c27.jpeg

Aqua80 was a great show. I was throughly entertained. Diving from some of those locations while the ship is rocking and rolling is an impressive feat. The soundtrack was great, and all the performers were fun to watch. One thing was interesting because you could tell who was hired to dive vs dance because the dancers were really great, but there was a diver or two, who were just a little bit off with their dancing. Still super fun to watch though. Heather and I were joking about how jobs for this show would get posted and advertised. IE dancers needed for a show on a cruise ship, oh by the way, you will have to dance while in the water, and swim, oh, and the floor moves. Or, tightrope walker needed and by the way, the tightrope will be on a moving object.

Just did a slot pull with some members of the Facebook group. We lost, oh well. We have the escape room in a few minutes. Here is an example of getting an official by the rules answer in pre-cruise communication, and getting a different result on board. We were told Johnny couldn’t participate because he was too young. Last night Derick let us know he could come in with us so that we didn’t have to find something else for him to do.

The escape room was a lot of fun. It was a group of all star class passengers. It was challenging and the host did give us some pointers. We were able to finish with 9:14 remaining.

Now we are putting a hurting on some tacos in celebration of taco toosday for 2/22/2022.

Julie is dressed for the occasion!

Wow!  You are doing an awesome job at blogging!!  My problem is I like the Casino more than I like blogging.  🙂  Hopefully, I will take a few moments throughout the day to share our experiences.  Once again, I’m so enjoying reading your updates!

Thank you for the kind words. Thankfully I am any early riser, so I try to get my posting done in the AM before people wake up. Other cruises, I'll do an update while people are getting ready for dinner etc. This one is taking a little bit more effort because if I didn't mention before, the internet is terrible in the room. It works fine if I'm on the balcony, but other than that, it's almost useless while in the room. There has also been times that I need to turn the wifi on and off multiple times throughout the day when I'm out about on the ship.

After some tacos, we had time to kill before dinner. Some of us tried out the Abyss slide, We all thought it was fun. Make sure you have shorts, and a shirt with sleeves. Lydia was wearing a summer dress and they would not let her on. There will be more time for the slide though. Heather and Johnny decided to check out the pools. Julie, Lydia and I went wandering. We ended up grabbing a table outside of vintages, where I had a glass of wine and some octopus salad.

IMG_1996.thumb.jpeg.eb8c05851f3db9ec081b3fbf35dac9f4.jpeg

During all our wandering, it is very obvious how empty the ship is and feels. Here is a shot of the boardwalk at the height of the day, and it's empty.  Official Guest count is 3,053 guests and 1,886 crew members.

IMG_1998.thumb.jpeg.7bd6ea69b2393b02c3bab5f1575f26cb.jpeg

Walking around the promenade, and its a ghost town. I kinda like it. I have not had to wait more than 1 minute for an elevator, there are plenty of deck chairs, and there are no big crowds of people anywhere. I know this is only temporary, but it will be nice while it lasts.

Tonight, dinner was at CP150. Genie magic came into play here. We have quickly become friends with another passenger and his son. Turns out he was also scheduled to be at CP150 the same time we were. A quick call to Derick, and our reservations were combined and we were all seated together.

This bread is the best thing ever.

IMG_1999.thumb.jpeg.5743229ffcccf80429aafe48fe505834.jpeg

Other appetizers ordered were the short ribs and the scallops.

I thought the short rib was amazing, the scallops were just okay. They were underdone for Heathers liking. I tried them and they were a bit chewy as well.

For Entrees, Heather had the duck. Julie had the lobster, myself, Adam, our guest and his son Andrew each ordered the filet. The waitress also felt that Adam and I should try the lobster, so two additional plates of that arrived as well. Food coma in overdrive today.

Desserts were unanimous with everyone ordering the fried cheesecake.

Final dinner report. Everyone thought the food was delicious. While Heather and Julie enjoyed their dinners, they felt that CP150 is a one and done kind of experience. Filet report, I my have to disagree with @Lovetocruise2002here. I thought this filet was better than Coastal Kitchen, but not by much. Both were outstanding though During dinner, Adam and I were discussing my filet research, and I realized that I didn't have any of the chimichurri sauce on it, so I did not give it a fair assessment. Oh well, that just means I need to go back....darn.......

So filet ranking

1st CP150, followed closely by Coastal Kitchen (if not tied) then Izumi.

After Dinner, Heather and Lydia went to see Cats. Julie and I just have no interest, and making Johnny go would be torture for the rest of us with his complaining he would do. Julie, Johnny and I did a lap on the walking trap, hid some ducks, played in the arcade and more general wandering.

we arrived back to our room to find a new animal to add to the collection, and they have now been adorned with googly  eyes!

Hmm...I might have to order this for research purposes.  We are going to do 150 CP twice this next sailing and I love the Lobster Thermidor but I will get the filet on the second night.  Then I might give you a pass for disagreeing lol.

Lol I didn’t even remember that 150 had a filet !  I recall the beef tenderloin for 2 but completely missed the filet, I guess.  I am not a huge meat-eater so maybe I had already consumed my ration of beef by the time we hit 150…don’t know.  I will remember this though and try and check out the filet at 150 next time.

Ahhhh, reading this reminded me!!! (I may have had an entire bottle of wine myself at dinner last night, so some details are foggy)

So you are correct, CP150 normally has the beef tenderloin for two that is finished table side. They have switched to individual portions due to COVID.

Do it!! We were supposed to do 150 twice but we are switching it up. I look forward to your assessment. Like I said both are outstanding. The way it was prepared at 150 with the onions on top just added a little bit more to it.

Sorry to leave everyone hanging for a few days. I have been enjoying my time on the ship to the fullest, actually started sleeping in for the first time in a while, and with the internet woes in the stateroom it's been hard to post. I'll see what I can do to get caught up a bit.

Following dinner, Heather and Lydia went to see Cats. Julie and I had no interest, and making Johnny go to that would have been torture for everyone. Afterwards, Heather said that she enjoyed it. She said the performers were great, the costumes outstanding. She did say that she saw a lot of people leave the show though. She did get a chance to talk with some of those that walked out. Their basic problem is that they didn't understand what the show was about. I think that is a result of the show being shortened. Cats is also a weird show to begin with and that doesn't help either. I do feel bad for the performers who put their all into each show, who then have to watch the crowd thin each time they perform. I can only imagine how demoralizing that could be.

I understand that there is a major investment to bring broadway shows onto the ships, hopefully RC at some point will be able to reassess the show here on Oasis and can change it.

I agree... my wife and I sat through it last OCT. We loved some of the classic songs, but the show was painful to sit through even though it was thankfully abbreviated. People walked out during our performance as well. It's not the performers as they are all very talented.

My wife really enjoyed Cats on Broadway as a child and I agreed to give it a shot on Oasis despite all of the negative reviews, but in the end she agreed it was painful to endure. Checked it off the to-do list, but will never sit through it again.

Sorry for the delay again folks. This one got away from me.

We woke up Wednesday morning in Cozumel. There were a few other ships here with us. There was the Add Diva and we were shorty joined by two carnival ships. Celebrity Apex was docked next to us as well.

Aida Diva. The number of passengers on this ship that were filming us leaving later that day was funny.

IMG_2013.thumb.jpeg.4e3c5ad7a40aadaad4e0102629e018ef.jpeg

There goes the neighborhood.

IMG_2014.thumb.jpeg.678f43b992d7b6dcd55f6baea658b5aa.jpeg

Apex and Oasis together.

IMG_2016.thumb.jpeg.7730e5645da5b5fb03d8494743643b5b.jpeg

While in Cozumel we opted to see the Mayan ruins at San Gervasio and Chocolate tasting tour. This was an interesting tour . As Johnny said, "you had me at chocolate. We were originally scheduled to do the Rio Secreto cave tubing, but that got cancelled a few weeks prior to departure. After talking with the group, we opted to stay on the island, and not take the ferry. My sister and Heather can easily get seasick, so avoiding the rough passage to the mainland was probably for the best.

The tour left the port in a comfortable bus and we headed for the ruins. We made a brief stop at the Mayan Honey shop for bathrooms, and some quick shopping before heading to the ruins. Once there, our guide took us along the different parts of the site. He was quite knowledgeable, and we learned all about the Mayan Calendar, and how they use only 3 symbols to create all of the numbers they used. The kids got a kick out of all the iguanas that were there as well. This guy greeted us as we walked in.

IMG_2019.thumb.jpeg.1a41512c43589d06a83fa59cbb2e7ff4.jpeg

Here are some other shots of the ruins.

IMG_2022.thumb.jpeg.9768ac79dcc2d2ed21f193ceb6a0cf67.jpeg

IMG_2031.thumb.jpeg.793de02920a915e10d4d80da61ee4a7d.jpeg

Once we were done here, it was back on the bus. We took a drive along the perimeter of the Island to the Mayan Cacao Company, just outside of the Playa Mia Park.

The Kids got to meet these guys,

IMG_1597.thumb.jpeg.2c4e2aa5f72190b659cf7e86f4ee1017.jpeg

Then we settled in for some presentations on how the Mayans made chocolate and used it as currency. We then got to do some tasting. The chocolate was delicious. It typically has a much higher cacao percentage than typical milk chocolate, but the flavor was very rich and did not seem too bitter. We came home with 4 different bars of chocolate.

Back at the port, we stopped for some tacos and snacks at one of the shops.

IMG_1602.thumb.jpeg.3f700fb6d0254c037777795af0f60523.jpeg

Johnny was not in a sharing mood!!

We took the obligatory port name picture..

IMG_1605.thumb.jpeg.f3cfcae746bb55d7cf3bb140642e0c39.jpeg

and upon arriving back to our stateroom, we were met with more snacks. Johnny loves chocolate covered strawberries. They have been delivered daily so far, so this is usually the highlight of his day.

Dinner that evening was back at Giovanni's. Best laid plans went astray here as well. Knowing that pasta is filling, I was going to order a few appetizers, and then have some pasta from both of them. The waiter understood, but still got me to order my own entree, bring on the food coma.

We all ordered mussels for an appetizer. I also ordered the Mozzarella di Bufala.

Here are the mussels, I forgot to let the camera have a bite of the Mozzarella.

IMG_2054.thumb.jpeg.4e416fc51c61ab1da6840354ea3cfb57.jpeg

To me, the mussels were just okay. They are the green mussels, and not the really good ones from PEI. They had a much stronger seafood taste and were chewier.

Entrees arrived. Heather got the Bolognese, and Julie got the Carbonara. The waiter convinced me to order the grilled prawns.

The carbonara was delicious. Julie and I joked that it was like eating breakfast pasta.

Here are the prawns. They were cooked very well and tasted great.

Considering we had a late lunch of a giant plate of nachos, and tacos in the port, snacks upon arriving back at the room, and now dinner, I was feeling like a beached whale, I did power through, and had Tiramisu for dessert. Keep me away from sharp objects or I may burst.

After dinner we had the Adult comedy show. The opener was okay, while the headliner was very funny. Derick sent the kids some ice cream while we were at the show. Thankfully it was only 2 scoops each, and not the full sundae bar that I have seen other genies send up. I can only imagine how late the kids would have been up had there been more!

We came back to these guys to add to the zoo.

IMG_2057.thumb.jpeg.349b2c17edd426cf49c7a90ee3f8d279.jpeg

Then Julie and I did some laps on the track to feel less guilty....and fat...We thought this sign along the track was funny.

The next morning we woke up in Roatan. This was a day we have been looking forward to for a while. Its been two years since we were here, and our favorite activity is here, holding sloths. We chose to go with Victor Bodden again as our tour guide. They have great rates, and offer a lot of great different tours. We chose to go with their private tour, which includes access to their monkey and sloth sanctuary. While there we also did their zip-line adventure. Our driver then took us on a tour of the island. We stopped at a chocolate factory here as well. We all agreed that the chocolate here was not as good as the chocolate that we got in Mexico, but it was still good. I did find a bag of coffee to bring home that smelled amazing.

Here is an update on the construction at the port.

IMG_2075.thumb.jpeg.5a6c7f99a92854f61b0c92f5743ed151.jpeg

Julie and Johnny were dressed for the occasion!!

IMG_2071.thumb.jpeg.a0400215b02cde7c0eb6f7441972af39.jpeg

When we arrived at the sanctuary, we got to meet one of the resident dogs, which of course the kids loved!

IMG_2065.thumb.jpeg.98ccc5f9f74fc471f8aa4a402baade40.jpeg

Soon we were all suited up in our harnesses for the zip-lines!

Here is a shot of Julie coming down one of them. We were very proud of Julie. She is very afraid of heights, but still wanted to challenge herself and step out of her comfort zone. She went tethered with a guide for the first one, but after that went solo and had a blast. She said it was an amazing experience and was glad that she did it.

IMG_1618.thumb.jpeg.015c3ca3f382288b5ea599109f31de9a.jpeg

Once the zip-lines were done, we headed to what we were all looking forward to.

We first spent some time with the monkeys. I'm pretty sure that these two violated me in some way. Nobody would tell me what they were up to....

IMG_1626.thumb.jpeg.4c7458c2938947569378139bbb36dc26.jpeg

I wasn't the only one though...

IMG_1630.thumb.jpeg.61d51cf8d33de3eba1fc83a5aea87c5e.jpeg

Soon enough we saw the sloths though!! I have this same shot from two years ago. This is her favorite thing!!

This sloth that Johnny was holding was the same one we saw two years ago as a baby!!

IMG_1639.thumb.jpeg.ccf3ae889571c006fdecb84eba8a7a18.jpeg

We saw many more animals and birds, then we headed back to the ship.

We took the obligatory port picture

IMG_1664.thumb.jpeg.9aae721fbd2ebd5d1833613df10f7504.jpeg

Even though the ship is already empty, we like to enjoy the ship with smaller crowds on the port days. Once back to the ship, more snacks were waiting, which were quickly consumed, then had second lunch up at El Loco Fresh. We really love those tacos!!! We then spent the afternoon doing various activities. The kids were in the pools, Julie did the archery tournament. I was going to, but since I didn't have sneakers on, they wouldn't let me on the sports court. I wasn't that concerned about missing it to go allll the way back to the room, so I cheered her on while enjoying some tasty cocktails.

Dinner Thursday evening was at Coastal Kitchen and I was looking forward to this one.

Heather was glad to get a nice picture with me...

IMG_1589.thumb.jpeg.69b23e67d420572063b9e710d14ebffb.jpeg

I had the grilled octopus and Caprese salad. Both of these were delicious.

IMG_2077.thumb.jpeg.1fadec5075973651c65686b0fb117e81.jpegIMG_2078.thumb.jpeg.230ccfb875ee0531309cc89682b06ab6.jpeg

For Entrees, I had the duck breast, and I have to say, this was the worst dish I have ever had. Who ever made this does not know how to cook duck. The fat was never rendered out of the skin leaving is tough and I didn't even bother tasting it. The meat was not tender at all.....

IMG_2081.thumb.jpeg.d19af57fd7e46ddcec0c6d0907194e89.jpeg

Heather got the short ribs, which were delicious.

IMG_2082.thumb.jpeg.79201b452064a8aebc880065482a49a9.jpeg

Julie got the duck bolognese, which also was delicious..

IMG_2083.thumb.jpeg.bd2c920bc49d17063476a7f1fcc939f7.jpeg

Thankfully desert was wonderful.

IMG_2084.thumb.jpeg.c7bf584b253a81d6390ab13312e1c72d.jpeg

Later that evening we all headed down to the main theater to see Hector is Magic. Derick had reserved our favorite seats for us again. We like to sit in the lower level in the first row behind the sound guys. The ledge is a great place to put our drinks and we don't lose armrest space putting them in the cup holders.  The show was great fun. He is very talented.

Friday morning arrived and we woke up in Costa Maya.

IMG_2086.thumb.jpeg.4947c216391115a23faa3ac348d7b1a8.jpeg

We had not been to this port before, so we were excited to visit. We chose to go to Maya Chan based on all of the suggestions and we were not disappointed. After making our way through the maze that is the port, and to the meeting point, we were escorted into a taxi for the bumpy ride to the resort. Once there, we were shown to our "area" with chairs, beach bed and hammock. For those that are not aware, Maya Chan is an all inclusive resort. Each party gets their own shaded area. Included, are all you can drink, and lunch is included too (more on that) There are sand toys, snorkel equipment, kayaks, paddle boards, floating chairs etc etc. Transportation to and from the resort is also included. All for $60 per person. Very affordable, and it was a great place to spend the day. Reservations are required and its not a large area, so it does not feel crowded. We have already decided, that any time we are in Costa Maya, we will go here again.

IMG_2090.thumb.jpeg.02ec50e898f970eac58ea4bd0eb88358.jpeg

We got settled in with drinks, and a snack of Chips, salsa and guac, and it was some of the best we have had. We were not disappointed with this view!

Im actually happy it was kinda cloudy today, because it kept the temperature in a bearable place, and as many know, the sea grass is plentiful here. Even with the wind, it had a pretty strong odor, and I can only imagine how bad it could have been if the sun was baking down on it. Several times during the day, they would rake it into wheel barrels, and relocate the grass.

420367424_IMG_2094(1).thumb.jpeg.926800f5582d6c585a9bffde9bc44b4d.jpeg

Here is a nice view of the ship from the resort, and more sea grass.

IMG_2091.thumb.jpeg.8e9e147b518f64ec0f85a9d488bf595a.jpeg

Back to the lunch. They set up a taco bar for you. They had Steak, chicken, pork and fish. There were home made flour and corn tortillas, rice, beans, and all the toppings. I ate way too many!

IMG_2092.thumb.jpeg.efdc264a9d31617d73b27ee96250cdec.jpeg

It was a great way to bookend the cruise by starting and ending with beach days. Sadly the day started winding down and we needed to head back to the ship. The staff here were wonderful. They arrange everything for you. When you arrive, they tell you when the last taxi will be so that you are back to the port with plenty of time. Once lunch is down, they come around and ask you what time you would like to take a taxi back, then make sure that you are on that taxi when it is time.

Back at the port, the kids had fun with the animals...

We made our way back to the ship. Norwegian Dawn was here with us, and man does she look small compared to Oasis!

Dinner this evening was a Chops Grill. Time for some more filet comparisons! Once again we were all full from tacos and snacks, but we powered through. Appetizers consisted of the shrimp cocktail, grilled black pepper bacon, crab cake, and the goat cheese salad.

The Crab cake, while it didn't have giant pieces of crab in it, tasted good and I would order that again.

IMG_2097.thumb.jpeg.24bdd0ebaa22d92ea1e2cf3d1a14ecec.jpeg

The bacon was also very good

IMG_2096.thumb.jpeg.867ca804f74a11442f21e756d9a80338.jpeg

The shrimp Cocktail was way better than what you get in the MDR

IMG_2100.thumb.jpeg.7b439ec97fe9367a38e4ff6d13f84bbc.jpeg

For the entrees we all ordered the petit fillets since we were already so full from all the other food we had during the day. Julie and I also ordered the lobster......boy were we in for a surprise. Now I don't know if this happened because we were star class, or the waiter was just being nice to us, but when our meals arrived, there was no way my piece of fillet was the petit, and instead of one lobster we got a bit more....

IMG_2107.thumb.jpeg.dac9330e12b11e4ddf6c90dafeb455bc.jpeg

Here was a picture of Lydias fillet, hers was clearly a 6 oz, mine if you can see above was a bit bigger. There were multiple waiters that served our entrees since there were so many plates, and our head waiter made it a point to specify which filet was mine, even though we all ordered the same size and same cook.

IMG_2103.thumb.jpeg.a04a0fab8f1f8571ed161cbf76695dfe.jpeg

IMG_2102.thumb.jpeg.a9eb2ffdcbf32e6f66aee3d00d41286f.jpeg

all of the sides that we ordered. Those gruyere cheese tater tots are amazing, and I need to learn how to make them myself.

Let the eating, and furthering of the star class food coma commence. When all was said and done, I ate my fillet, all of my lobster and one of the halves that Julie got....I was so full, but the food was delicious.

So, fillet thoughts. I actually likes this one the least. While tasty, it lacked some seasoning. So final ranking I would put Coastal Kitchen and CP 150 at the top, then Izumi, then Chops.  Coco Beach club needs another assessment for proper ranking.

As if we weren't full enough, we did squeeze some dessert in as well. Lydia ordered the apple pie. @WAAAYTOOOthere wasn't a raisin in sight!!

IMG_2111.thumb.jpeg.cc45e0f68d7e1723c430018a9d2e7fe8.jpeg

We also got the key lime pie, but I forgot to get a picture.

Time to roll us out the door over to Studio B for the ice skating show.

I agree, not a fan of Chops filet either for the same reason.  But the Chops lobster...LOVE IT!!!

I hate people, part 2 and 3.

Derick reserved us front row seats in Studio B for the ice skating show Frozen in Time. I got there a little late because I was waiting in chops because I ordered a Haute & Steamy coffee to take with me. If you have not had one of these, you are missing out.

Anyway, I arrived to Studio B, just in time to see an older man berating one of the crew members. This man was shoving his pinnacle name tag in the crew members face yelling at him how he has spent $100,000 over the years and the least they could do was reserve him a seat. The crew member at least kept his cool, and said sir, there are plenty of seats over on the one side of the rink and he could sit there. I chatted with the crew member for a bit afterwards and told him that I wish people weren't such A-holes, and that they didn't deserve to have to deal with such behavior. He told me sadly they are seeing it more and more.....I hate people

This leads me to part 3 of why I hate people. earlier in the day, the cruise director said that they were bringing back the love and marriage show, and that this was the first sailing to have it, and that it would be held in the royal theater right after the ice show. I quickly messaged Derick to see if he could reserve seats for us. We were told that he couldn't and that he was instructed from the cruise department. He said they have been having multiple issues due to seat reservations. He said other guests were sitting in these seats and refusing to get up. These same guests are then going to guest services afterwards and making complaints that the genies are being rude to them. So they have been instructed not to reserve seats in shows that do not require reservations. Thankfully, the guests that Derick and the other Genie were seating backed them up in guest services, but the damage was done. What made it worse, was that the guest who refused to leave was a woman with her young daughter with her. So the daughter was a witness to this behavior and has now learned that this behavior is okay. These same guests also fell asleep during the show......I hate people

Anyway, the ice show was really good. The skating was great, the costumes were incredible, and the skater from France who played the emperor was outstanding. He really played up his character and had the crowd rolling in their seats. If you are on Oasis, you really need to see this show!!

Saturday was a sea day, and our last full day on the ship. The cruise has been so much fun, we were sad to see it coming to an end. Like I had said before that with the reduced numbers, the ship felt empty. There were hardly any lines for anything that we wanted to do. I only used the Star Class band once to jump a line, and it was to get down to the boardwalk faster on the abyss slide because I was grabbing a hot dog for lunch. It was tasty. The rest of the times that we went down the slide, the line was short, and not worth jumping.

We started the morning with some Ice skating. Lydia has been on skates since she could walk so she thought it was neat that she could skate on the ship. She was arguably the best skater out there.

IMG_2117.thumb.jpeg.70d89aac90c86906cd6586c714889060.jpeg

She even started helping one of the younger kids....proud dad moment there...

IMG_2125.thumb.jpeg.5512bfb3031197ffe1bb27b6268c72dd.jpeg

We then did some rock climbing.

Johnny and Heather played some bingo

IMG_1682.thumb.jpeg.947ac0f871b6b4032e813f2e345d8f69.jpeg

Much too quickly it was dinner time and off to port side BBQ we went. We have some really good BBQ places here in NY (shocking, I know) and I have to say I was impressed with what they accomplished here. Some people may not like it as much because everything is sauced, where some prefer dry, but I'm not that picky. It was here that I hit the wall for star class food coma. I was able to have just a couple of the burnt ends, and only 1/2 the ribs, and I physically couldn't eat another bite.

IMG_2141.thumb.jpeg.e6fa95819422c30e553a7db0854280ee.jpeg

On a side note, order the Portside Spiked Palmer often. It is delicious!! It has Buffalo trace Bourbon, iced tea, lemonade, and hints of peach and mint. I normally don't like peach drinks, but this was one of the best things I drank on the cruise. I was mad that I had not discovered it sooner.

After dinner we headed to the theater to see the comedians again, this time for the family friendly show. We also realized that we had not gotten a picture with Derick, so we made sure to do so!

IMG_2145.thumb.jpeg.c0aa0422aec45c7aebaf0e067d0d3815.jpeg

The comedians were the same from the adult show earlier. Our assessment was the same. The first guy was okay, but the second was really good.

After the comedy show, we got to watch Aqua80 again, this time from our balcony. The show was cancelled a few times during the week, so we were glad to see it back on. One of the high divers was not 100% so there were a few adjustments. Because they had cancelled a few shows, and I think because of the changing protocols for the upcoming weeks, they packed as many people as they could into the aqua theater, which I think was great. The performers were splashing everyone the could in the front rows, and I think you could tell the energy in the theater was just that much higher. Only the very front row was kept empty.

IMG_2153.thumb.jpeg.36f1b1bef8f732b86197ea39cfd0f363.jpeg

We also returned to a room full of more towel animals.

I sometimes really hate people too. Like come on you can read, they know they aren't star class and will be asked to move. What happens when they go back to reserving sky class and diamond plus seats? They will continue to have to move or be rude to people who are just doing their job. I also don't get why a pinnacle would make such a fuss, if you have spent $100k then you know some people are spending $14-32k to be in star class and deserve the perks they paid for.

On another note, I love sloths but I absolutely loath monkeys, so I have consistently shied away from that activity in Roatan. I do love how cute everyone looks with the sloths though.

With our tour, you aren't forced to interact with anything you don't want to, so if you only wanted to hold a sloth, you can do that, and just watch the monkeys do their monkey thing on other people from the outside you can.

Sadly the Aqua80 show ended, and it was time to focus and get back to reality. Derick had previously asked us what we wanted to do for departure and what time we wanted to get off the ship. Sadly we packed up our bags, and prepared for our long journey home. Derick had left us gifts in the stateroom. We had a nice letter from him, a collection of Oasis water bottles, and a ship model.

Soon enough though, the bags were packed, and placed outside our door. We kept one with us for all the things that we would need in morning. Sadly we were informed that there would be no room service breakfast, no Starbucks...Sobs.....

On a fun note, we decided to try our luck in the casino. Now we aren't gamblers at all, but we thought hey let's go lose some money, maybe we will get lucky. We have a little bit of an idea of what to do from watching other people etc. So we put some money into the machine....and soon we had turned our $200 to $462 at which point we panicked and cashed out!

Its officially the worst day ever....

Since we had a two day drive home, we wanted to get off the ship relatively early, 8am. We had plans to meet Heathers parents in Daytona for lunch. They are snow birds and were down for the winter.

Disembarkation was a breeze. Derick met us at guest services and escorted us off the ship. He walked with us in the terminal to the elevator where we had to say our goodbyes. Hugs were exchanged all around. In his letter to us he said that this is not a good bye...its until we meet again. We let him know that we will be on Oasis the same week next year and that we hoped to see him then. He turned us over to one of the port workers in blue who guided us the rest of the way through the terminal. All the bags for star class were right in front of the elevators, and there were porters waiting. We are pretty self sufficient, so we grabbed them ourselves and didn't use a porter. Surprisingly the entire terminal was empty, so we walked to the customs area. Since we all have passports, we were able to use the facial scanners and were through in 15 seconds.

We took the elevator to the floor in the parking garage, played our game of Tetris with the luggage, and were on the road. It was probably 15 minutes from when we left the suite to when we were on the road.

Final thoughts.

This probably will be a rambling post as I try to sum up everything about this cruise.

We went into this cruise with our eyes open, and zero expectations. This was our first cruise back, first star class, first oasis class. I've read many star class blogs heading into this, thank you @Lovetocruise2002, @WAAAYTOOO, @Jax and I'm sure many more for sharing your advice, and experiences, and ultimately had a great time. We all said that this was the best cruise we had been on to date.

Star class experience. We are pretty low key people so we probably were some of the easiest guests that Derick had to manage. We never had any spur of the moment requests asking for drinks, pizza, parties etc. Derick was receptive to anything that we asked of him, but didn't go beyond that, which has been discussed before about other genies. I agree/feel that with COVID, they have been hamstrung a bit here. Don't get me wrong, because I am not complaining at all. Though I am looking forward to next year when COVID is no longer a thing and a star class sail away party on the helipad can return etc. He did try to fish things out pre-cruise, asking if we had anything to celebrate, but sadly we didn't at the time. We are sailing on Anthem this July in a star class room, so we shall see how things are different. That will be during our 16th wedding anniversary, so something to celebrate there! Get ready for a party @Lovetocruise2002

I completely forgot to take advantage of the laundry service...oh well......

I think one big take away is that being in star class for this cruise was that there was no stress for us. With reservations required for things etc, it was nice to know that it was just done and taken care of for us. We saw many people show up to shows etc that we were going to and turned away because they did not have a reservation. For that star class made it worth it even more.

The crew was fantastic. Everyone was very friendly and glad to be back at work. I don't think that other than the extra food in chops were we ever treated any differently than other passengers due to our star class status, and I'm perfect okay with that too.

The crew were also excited that shore leave was being approved again. Capacity is being ramped up quickly. Our cruise had 3000 passengers. This week they were expecting 3800, and they were expecting increases each following week.

We have all said we are interested to see the differences in the experiences when the ship is full, both with crowds and how star class will play a role in that. Like I said earlier, I didn't feel the need to jump lines for things, but with the ship so empty, there really weren't any lines to jump.

My biggest gripe was the internet. It was almost non-existent in our stateroom, and then out on the ship, I would constantly loose connection and would have to turn the wifi on and off and reconnect multiple times. I wasn't the only one with this issue too.

Thank you to everyone who followed along, this one was hard to do with my internet woes, and generally being busy with other activities. I really appreciate that you all took the time to read along and for all the reactions and comments!

I'll be blogging again in July as we head to Norway on Anthem. This should be interesting because @Lovetocruise2002 is in the cabin next to us. We are all in deck 10 GLS. So say we are excited is an understatement!!

Loved your blog!  I was late to the party, but it was fun reading it start to finish in one sitting.

I was saddened reading your "I hate people" sections because it seems to have become the norm these days.  I'm hoping that new norm is only a phase and it goes away soon!

Our September cruise will be going to Honduras and Costa Maya, so it was great hearing about your favorites.  Depending on who ends up on that cruise with us, we may choose to visit the sloths.

I'm sure you're in "star class withdrawal" mode now.  It's a thing for sure!  We originally had our first star class last November and the next one booked in September this year, but after our November cruise, I had to book another one in the middle so my countdown wasn't so high.  I had a #teamdeck17 cruise booked, but unfortunately had to change it due to conflicting circumstances.  We ended up choosing a cruise itinerary and date (anniversary and 8 night Southern Caribbean) over the availability of a suite and sadly, the suites are all sold out.  I'm online everyday looking for something to open up.  My hubby says the star class addiction isn't something from which one can easily recover.  I think he's right.

@CravingaCruiseThank you so much for your kind words. I hated experiencing and having to write about those people, and I certainly hope that I don't have to see or experience that again. I agree that it seems to be a new norm, that I hope fades into obscurity soon!

We absolutely had some star class withdrawal. We still comment on how we wish we had our coffee delivery, or that we could call Derick to fix something for us. Currently all of our future cruises are in star class rooms so clearly I am not willing to accept that I have a problem, and I am refusing to go to rehab!

@GregD…thanks so much for a wonderful review!  I just had the chance to read through everything.  I will be taking my first RCCL and first SC cruise in October on Anthem.  Thanks to @WAAAYTOOO, I also chose a GLS on deck 10, so I will be interested in you July live blog.  All the great comments from those you mentioned ( @Lovetocruise2002, @Jax, and @WAAAYTOOO, plus many others, and you are helping me prepare for that first SC cruise.    Thanks again!!
