Help a first time cruiser ! Drink pkg

Welcome to the Blog, @DebK.  Unfortunately, there is no way to know when the prices are going to go up or down.  You just have to keep checking to see.  One bit of advice....ignore the "% off" sales hype.  Just record (somewhere...or in your head....whatever works) the bottom line per person/per day rate and watch for changes of that number.  The % off is just a slight-of-hand and means little as the % off is based on the onboard price and they never disclose what that price is....so you have no way of knowing what the basis of the % off actually is.  What matters is what the package will cost you on a per person/per day basis.  Also keep in mind that the price that you see in the Cruise Planner may or may not include the mandatory 18% gratuity.  If your cruise is still using Plan My cruise (Cruise Planner), then the gratuity is not included.  If your cruise has switched over to Plan My Cruise (My Royal Cruise), then the displayed rate already includes the gratuity.

In my limited experience and with a current price of $72 per person per day including gratuities for our next cruise, break even is 4 alcoholic beverages @ $15 per drink plus 2-3 bottles of water & a couple of specialty coffees.  It has been said that you have to drink yourself under the table to make the package work.  I have never found that to be the case.  Hope this helps.

edited to add the new Cruise planner does list the on board price (mine was $88) and using that figure, the percentages are pretty accurate. But WAAAYTOOO is right, your best bet is to track the bottom line not the %.

Has the beverage package raised its per-drink coverage recently? If I'm remembering right, the last time I bought it (2019) it only covered drinks up to $13 on a Q or O class ship, and $12 on other ships. Which still covered almost all alcoholic drinks except higher-end wines and spirits, but $15 per drink would have covered a couple more of the wines I'd typically buy.

If it's still $13 per drink coverage, you're looking more at 5 alcoholic drinks a day plus a couple bottles of water to break even. Or 4 drinks plus a couple specialty coffees (not at Starbucks kiosks, though) and the waters.

The $15 includes gratuities which is what you’d pay without the package.  So if I bought 4 drinks OOP, it would cost $60 leaving $12 for other beverages to break even on my $72 package cost.

Or, without gratuities, the package was $61.  4 drinks @ $13 (before tip) $52 leaving $11 for other beverages.

Apples to apples

Hi there. First time cruiser. We are booked on Oasis for Feb. 19, 2023. Just wondering when we will start seeing items to purchase like dinner packages, drink packages and so on. We did book a cabana for perfect day, but there are no other excursions showing. Am I too early/excited? Just wondering when they will be available.

Welcome to the blogs!! You are too early for those(dining and drinks). They will eventually pop up, 9-12 months out. Excursions for the other ports will eventually start loading too. FYI, I am also on that sailing!
