Odyssey Right Now

Captain just announced via the intercom in our room some fully vaccinated crew has tested positive for Covid 19 and have been quarantined. He did not disclose the number. The weekly testing of crew revealed this he stated. They are canceling shows going forward and contact tracing.

We stop in Curacao tomorrow, it will be interesting to see if they let us still visit.

While there is no smoking in the casino everything on board seems normal, the suite concierge is missing since last night fingers crossed she isn't a positive case.

Otherwise, everything else is packed with little social distancing. My line dancing class yesterday had us tripping over each other. 270 every table in use, making the most of our Holiday sailing.

On another happier note I found two cruising ducks. They bring me joy.

Scheduled to board Odyssey on Jan 2nd, will be our first cruise since March 2020 cancellation of last cruise.  Definitely interested in any updates you can give as your cruise progresses. Maybe you can settle a quarrel between my wife and I.  Mask on or off in the solarium?  I say its indoor space so yes if your not in the water, she disagrees.

Will do, we went to a concert that wasn't canceled and there seemed while the theater was normal capacity the Deck 5 walkway and the Music Hall had noticeably less people and everyone but one passenger was wearing their mask properly. Tomorrow I'm scheduled for North Star and I Fly, tomorrow night The Book in 270. Fingers crossed but I am in a 2 bedroom grand with a huge balcony, any cancelations tomorrow I'll be out there still counting my blessings. ( when we returned to Port Everglades night 2 we were told it was a Covid positive passenger and his family.)

I’m almost positive people went without masks in the Solarium.  We were only in there briefly and kept our masks on but seem to recall others had them off.

very much appreciate the status updates...keep em coming.

scheduled for 12/26 sailing...see that my JS royalup is pending and others expired, but

worried that more crew cases will lead to more cancellations....guess I have another

24 hrs to still cancel.

Hey, we are booked on the 12/26 sailing as well.  Our family is pretty vacation starved right now and our position is if the ship sails we will be on it - regardless of the restrictions.  Making that decision has helped put some of our anxiety at bay.  Our policy is to make the most of whatever we can get.  Assuming it was booked to 100% capacity I wonder what actual capacity will be when she sails.

What is the mood of your crew RFSDVM?  Are you also committed to going if she sails?

This is the issue with Omicron.   Rapid spread but mild if any actual illness.

One study that just came out found that Omicron reproduces a lot faster in your airway, but a lot slower in your lungs.   That makes total sense in why more and more people are testing positive but feeling fine.

Just gotta wait it out. Based on other countries' data, it's a quick hit. No slow onramp or slow offramp. Just a big but brief wham.

Frankly we have made contingency flight reservations for Sunday out of FLL. we have not canceled the second leg of our B2B yet but if things go downhill regarding the ships ability to visit ports we will probably cancel. We are not impressed with the ship overall and it’s really too crowded to even enjoy the solarium pool and hot tubs, even if there were NO port stops allowed next week.

a few hours ago we were cool with staying on for the second week but now seriously considering our options.

@Clover18 so we have just been told 52 positive cases, 3 passengers and the rest crew. The crew is still upbeat but we have been restricted by the health authorities and we are not allowed off the ship in Curacao and most likely not allowed off tomorrow either. Now we are waiting to see if they will cut this sailing short. The pool deck and solarium are standing room only. Will update when we know. Captain is wonderful, very transparent. Our excursion from today has been refunded, no showgirls shows at all this sailing.

We are staying positive because we are healthy and in the beautiful warm weather!

Going to look for more ducks!!

@Neesa we feel the same way. Disappointing but not surprising given the circumstances. I agree that we probably will be allowed to go into Aruba tomorrow. Someone I was talking with mentioned that maybe they will cut bait and head back to CocoCay for one final stop before we head back to Fort Lauderdale. But it’s hard to say at this point. Can’t Decide whether we want to stay aboard for the back to back next week. Keeping it positive!

wife & I discussed it and have decided to call and cancel...

...funny considering just got email that our Royalup bid for JS was accepted

thinking of doing a driving trip

hoping to be able to get an actual refund instead of FCC, but don't know how realistic that is.

Thanks everyone for updates....we will be with you in spirit

@NeesaAre you currently on a 100% capacity sailing? I only ask because you mentioned the decks are standing room only.

We were told by a crew member this sailing and the next are 100% . We just left the suite sun deck, grabbed towels and back on our own balcony. I didn't understand it 2 people minimum to a lounge chair, not one chair or lounger free AND an emotional support dog with a dyed purple and blue tail. The dog also dines in #CK every night.

While I am staying crazy positive; knowing and seeing and experiencing this I would not sail next week, I personally feel it's way to much money for the weird experience. Again, I personally think you made the correct choice.

I don't see Aruba allowing us to disembark tomorrow. I wish they would just turn around and take us home, by way of Coco Cay that is! But seriously, most people are in good spirits it appears. One or two grumbles but if you booked this you kind of knew it would be "different" I still believe in my heart whether they saw Omicron coming or not they relaxed to soon and put $$$ over all. 100% capacity and how crowded this ship is should not have happened at this juncture.  They could have waited just until 2022 to start ramping up. Just because one can doesn't mean they should.

Nessa and Clover18 thank you for the update.  Odyssey of the Seas is a beautiful cruise.  When I was on board last week, 270 was a great quite place to hangout.  We got to know workers at the 270 café.  This is the last cruise for the Philippine Barista, and she is going back home to enjoy the holiday.  I hope she is doing fine.  Stay healthy and positive on the ship.

Hey. My auto finish said “will” But I agree we will not be able to disembark in Aruba tomorrow. Just thinking that is sad situation and next weeks back to back we will probably cancel because there’s no point in coming on if we’re not gonna be able to get off and explore the ports

North Star was great, only one person in our group of 10 "lost it" because he had to go into the ball with the 9 of us, 10 in total. Grown man lost control, spewing verbal tirade because he wanted the ball for himself.

We were made to sanitize hands and properly wear masks, felt fine. Really a beautiful vision of the Island.

Captain announced he is going out into international water to open the casino and shops. Aruba not looking good. Anyone say Coco cay?

We boarded a Celebrity Cruise in Oct and there were 15% capacity which was great, but I understand that this cannot happen too many times.  Every business needs to make money.  I didn’t expect RC sold out to 100% capacity on Odyssey last week and next two weeks.  I rather pay more money and cruise at 60-70% capacity to play safe.  Finance and management are always the cause to look good and play with fire.

Do you think RC will refund a portion of your money due to all these changes? not just the port fees, which should be done regardless, but the whole experience has been lessened.

I think RC needs to rethink the capacities again. I don't know why they rushed into increasing capacities in the middle of winter. This is when people get sick. And then you have all the holidays where people get together.  keep it at a lower capacity and wait until end of January to start increasing things.

I’m not sure how much capacity will matter right now with omicron seemingly this contagious. We made it thru the summer delta surge Without it translating into cases on the ships. It would appear that the next several weeks are going to be rough for positive cases on the ships. Just so annoying when we had just got back up an running. My wife and I were just on the 8 day odyssey sailing from 12/4-12/12 and we really feel like we dodged a bullet in terms of the cruise being Adversely affected by Covid cases. We had an awesome time and thought royal did a great job

I think that when they planned to ramp up capacity Omnicom wasn't even a known thing.  It appeared and then spread like wildfire.  Had it just still been Delta, they might have been just fine.

Or not.  What do I know?

This is absolutely correct. Omicron has been crazy with its spread.

Ugh, we are sailing Harmony starting the 26th and I haven't heard anything about that ship and whether there are positive cruise cases.  Now I am really starting to second guess all of this and wonder if we should cancel.  standing room only doesn't sound fun along with zero ports.  How can they even think to sail if they can't go to any ports?!?

Chucky that is Jennifer I believe. She was the best. She was always super polite to my wife and I. We always went there for our coffees. 270 cafe is the hidden gem I think on Odyssey. Great food there.

@D Alt it would be nice if they refunded something more then port fees and taxes or even gave us some OBC but I don't expect it. If I read the contract correctly they can change the itinerary etc.. while a great gesture, I just don't see it. I will report if we are given anything. I'm in a great cabin with my loved ones, all healthy so I have what I need.

Wishing for the 'good ole days' when all we worried about was Norovirus, those were the days.
