Labdoodlvr
I received a Royal Up email yesterday, and bid on three star class suites. The cruise is on 1/31/22. Would I be contacted earlier or the week before we sail? I’ve seen messages where the Genie has reached out two months before the cruise. Thank you. twangster
This is a disadvantage of using RoyalUp to sail in Star Class compared to booking Star Class conventionally. The genie won't reach out before you are actually upgraded to Star Class. Since RoyalUp can occur very close to sailing this does impact this aspect of how a genie prepares for your cruise based on your preferences. Normally the genie has months to get to know you and everyone's preferences. With RoyalUp the genie may not have enough time to prepare like they would with a conventional Star Class booking. KLA
For reference, when I won my Royal Up to a Junior Suite it wasn't confirmed until 2 days prior to sailing. There is some variation here, but that is the typical experience. Neesa
Fairlynew
I won a Royal Up bid from a GS to a CLS and was notified about a month prior to sailing. Timing is very unpredictable. A friend on another sailing went from a Jr. Suite to a GS and was notified about 2 weeks in advance. Neesa
Jkaczano
Most of the things a genie does can be arranged even on the day of embarkation. So even if you find out at the last minute, it’s not a problem. Dining reservations could be a problem if you only find out on boarding day, but even 2 days out, there should be plenty of availability. BillS
We just received an email to bid on an upgrade for our January cruise, but we are hesitant to do so, because that sailing qualifies for the C&A double points(booking have to have been made by 9/30/2021). If we win the Royal Up bid would it be considered an 'new booking' and no longer qualify for double the points?
bigmoose7563
3 days out from Harmony and I have 5 bids, one being a Star class suite still pending so you just have to be patient

No, you will retain the same points you would have gotten for your original booking if you win the RoyalUp. Sea Squirrel
We RU’d to Star Class and were notified one day prior to sailing. Our Genie and the head of the department contacted us immediately. We did not get the questionnaire we received in the past with full booking but overall, not really noticeable; she still prep’d for us. If upgraded without much time, do let your Genie know your preferences when he/she meets up with you. We waited a couple days since we were used to our Genie anticipating. Don’t do that. Let them know right away. Otherwise, you might not get those early afternoon wings and tenders, lol (our preferred snacks). Swar
My RoyalUps from interior to spacious balcony came through 1 week before the 3 Jan sailing and 2 weeks before the 8 Jan sailing on Brilliance. I bid $10 over minimum. My 31 Jan upgrade is still pending. It took @1 day for the luggage tags to update. Labdoodlvr
We are so excited! My Royal Up bid was accepted. My cruise doesn’t sail until 1/31. I’m hoping my Genie will reach out before then. There are a few questions I’d like to ask. WAAAYTOOO and SpeedNoodles
