smiles998
I wrote Royal Caribbean, and asked the question (What is "Choice Departure" as it relates to the benefits of purchasing the Key?) I have never received an answer after waiting 3 weeks, so I thought I would pose the question here... Any one know what the Key Choice Departure is? Thanks for any information :)
Ampurp85
I would assume it means a better time. I assume RCG prioritizes the times based on status (their loyalty program, staying in a suite) and whether you choose self-assist. With the Key you are probably able to get a better disembarkment time ahead of others without perks.
bluer101
We had the Key end of October. We were able to leave when ever we wanted to vs waiting for your number to be called. They also had a separate baggage pickup area for key too but we wheeled our luggage off our selves.
ChrisK2793
We just had the Key on Odyssey. We could get off the ship any time between 630 and 915am.
smiles998
We will be sailing on the Mariner OTS in January. I read somewhere that you get escorted off the ship and don't have to stand in long lines with everyone else. Anyone know how true that is? Like everyone else, I HATE disembarkation day! Would love a way to lessen the agony...:)
BrianB
I’m on the Anthem now…I just checked at guest services. Pre-pandemic, Key members doing self-assist would meet at the Excursions desk right across from the gangway and would be escorted off the ship as soon as we were cleared…before anyone else. But now…apparently due to physical distancing protocols…that’s been done away with. They don’t want us to line up at the Excursions desk. So on Sunday we’ll just come down early with our luggage and add ourselves to the self-assist walk-off line. I guess being in that long line is safer than being in the shorter Key line. …things that make you go ‘huh?’ WAAAYTOOO
Zac
I would like be off the ship at the latest possible time. Is this possible with the Key? What is everyone's experience with late departure?
PRMLVM
I and another poster asked a very similar question recently. The consensus seemed to be that everyone (no matter the room category or the Key) has to be out of their cabin between 8:00 - 8:30 latest. Then, you can stay on the ship until about 9:30/10:00 in the public areas. The call time for your baggage ticket is the earliest you can leave (the earliest your luggage will be ready at port), not necessarily the time you have to leave. But, they do want you out of your cabin and then off the ship by certain times (to ready the rooms and the ship for the next cruisers). BrianB
On the ship on disembarkation day…….wanting to stretch the time onboard as long as possible! In the terminal on embarkation day…….wanting those onboard to get the heck off so we can start boarding! VirtKitty and PPPJJ-GCVAB
FSUFAN
RCCL Newbie here - The Key seems to ebb and flow with changing benefits over time. At one time, I heard that it had free room service - that appears to be gone now. I have it for a NE/Canda cruise out of Boston in October as it went on sale for about the price of the Voom S&S package some months back. I am couching my enthusiasm after seeing so many poor reviews about it. I wish that they would add a free drink (Drink of the Day, specialty coffee or similar). Just asking for one single drink or some other perk that would make it more appealing. That or lower the overall price point.
