Boarding time - earlier than 11 AM?

Recommended Posts

We are sailing on Oasis on November 3, coming up! We found out two days ago that we won our Royal Up bid and we are now in a Sky Class Grand Suite!! (First time on Oasis and first time in a suite. So excited!)

We currently have a boarding time of 11 AM, which we got around a month ago, well before getting the suite. We received a concierge email today that one of our Sky Class perks is getting on the ship up to an hour earlier than our scheduled boarding time, if the cruise terminal is open. I am skeptical we can get on the ship at 10… but if we can get more cruise time, I’d love it! Mimosas in the solarium at 10:30 sounds delightful 🥂

So have you done this? Is 10 am too early to get on a ship? We also don’t want to be waiting at the terminal for an hour.

FWIW this is the first Oasis sailing out of Miami since reopening (Oasis was previously sailing out of Bayonne) so they will not need to clear passengers off the ship or turn rooms around from a prior cruise.

I would say you might be waiting. I believe that pre-pandemic you could show up as early as 10:30 because the earliest boarding time was around 11am. 11am is the earliest boarding time and there is covid protocols and self-embarkation to think about. It is possible some people might not leave until after 9:30 and the ship needs to be cleaned

Different ship for me but had a noon check in time. Got to the terminal about 11:30 am and they were starting to accept people from 12:30pm to come in. Got through all the stuff ready to get on the ship and had to sit down and wait for about 30 to 45 minutes before the ship was cleared to board. But until everyone who is supposed to be off the ship is verified as off the ship new people can't get on so even with an earlier time it doesn't guarantee being in the ship much earlier than anyone else.

With my B2B they have us meeting in the Star lounge at 9:00 am to be escorted to the terminal to go through our new check in and then make our way back on but I suspect we may have to wait a bit if someone doesn't get checked off the ship that should be.

With no disembarking passengers your biggest hindrance to arriving early will be when they formerly open the terminal. Port of Miami does have a separate suites check-in waiting area. Even if they're not ready to board you should be able to sit there and wait, especially if you have the 11am boarding time.

Congratulations.  You will love sky class!    I was on independence out of Galveston a few weeks ago with a boarding time of 1 pm.  I was in a junior suite, which also allows boarding an hour early.   Traffic was lighter than expected and we got to the port at 11, breezed through checkin and were sitting in a waiting area by 11:20.   We were nowhere near the first people seated.  I’d estimate that there at least 100 people already there.   Boarding was done in order of where you were sitting.  No one asked if we were in a suite or not.  Our friends who were in a grand suite were about 10 minutes behind us.  We were allowed to save them seats to board with us.   Again no one asked and we did not mention suite status.  We were on board by 11:45.    The cruise was about half full so that may have made a difference.  Bottom line, you will probably be able to check in but you may have to wait to board

So I am finding myself in this position, myself. We are in a Star Class and already have the 11 AM check-in time coming out of Ft. L. So how did it work for you? Were you able to board before 11?

Star Class will be handled differently compared to Sky Class.  How far away is your cruise?  Have you been contacted by a genie?  Normally they schedule your terminal arrival and the Star Class team would be involved with your arrival unlike other suite classes.

Sailing Ovation out of Seattle in Aug. Our Genie told us Star is allowed to show 1 hr early. I’m not sure if that means board early or just check-in. In Miami, we showed at 10:30 and our Genie sat with us and processed us in the waiting area until boarding was called, I believe about 1045. 15 min waiting tops from curb to ship.

That's check in early. No one can board until the ship is cleared for boarding and the who boards first is entirely dependent on how organized the port is.

In 3 cruises with an 11 am check-in (I'm not counting the 11am check-in out of the Bahamas), I was on board at 12pm, 11:45am and 11am

@smokeybandit is correct. The difference for Star is the processing in the lounge. No lines, the Genie had folks come to us while we waited, asked if we needed snacks or drinks and we boarded as soon as we were cleared. Our Genie scanned us in right after folks with special needs. We may have been the 10th passengers on Oasis that day. In fact, we boarded so early, we had to wait for Ultimate Abyss to open, lol
