I am down to a small payoff on 1/29/22 cruise. However I have until 30 days prior to pay it off, are there any advantages to doing the payoff now? Example can I plan activities or on board stuff that I can't before payoff.

No advantages to paying early, except I supposed the peace of mind to know its already paid for.

There are no advantages and only disadvantages to paying off a cruise early.  Not that you would necessarily want to do this, but once a cruise is paid in full you cannot transfer the booking to a new/different travel agent.  I never pay off a cruise early except for casino comp bookings which MUST be paid in full when they are booked.

I would never pay off my cruise until the last possible moment (maybe a day early 🙂.  Price drops could still occur and then you would get OBC instead of the lower price.

This is not the case, even if you pay off your cruise if there is a price drop and you claim it and it's before final payment you will receive it as a credit on your CC (the one you used to pay for your cruise) The RC agent has no control over this, the system will either process a refund or OBC depending on final payment date.

Agreed. I paid off my cruise two weeks early and then the price dropped before the final payment due date. When I re-booked it, the difference came back as a refund to my credit card.

Thanks, just noticed that wife's passport expires in May 2022, so now have anxiety of getting renewed during long renewal times lol. This stress of cruising these days.

I recently renewed mine, paying the $60 expedite fee and that was a 12wk max wait time.  I received it last week and it was 2 weeks door to door, so either wait times arent what they used to be or i got lucky.  There is a spot to indicate booked international travel (Jan 29 sailing), so maybe that moved me up line, not sure.

Other than the deposit, I never pay early for a cruise. I normally will pay a few days early (through my TA) just to be sure no hiccups in the transaction. Why give them my money interest free? Lol

There is no advantage to paying it off early. Final payment for *most* cruises is 90 days. Check in *normally* is 90 days out as well.

You can not check in until final payment. If you wait you may get a later check in time and since they are now enforcing check in times that may be something you want to consider.

My final payment is due Feb 13 but my check in date is Jan 27.  I believe, because final pmt for cruises through March 2022 is due only 30 days prior, check in does open first & you can check in before you make final payment.

We renewed my wife's passport and paid the little extra for expedited processing...only took about 3 weeks from door to door. I would do this every time it's up for renewal.

This is why I back up the final payment a few days for everyone- you never know if something might happen to your card and we have to scramble at the last minute.

As a TA, I prefer it if people don't pay early. The accounting if there is a price drop is a mess.

Did you try it? TA's have reported that you can not get a check in time until after final payment is made. Has this been verified?

I checked in last week (at 45 days). Final payment for our cruise is 30 days out (Nov. 19).  So yes, you can check in before final payment.

If you are on a US passport I just renewed. Paid for expedited processing and had my new book in hand in 3 weeks.
