e_sugiarto
Hi! I will have an upcoming cruise in March 2017 on Ovation of The Sea. I'd like to know what pool water in that ship is, especially in the main adult pool and the whirl pool. Previously I had my first cruise on Mariner of The Sea on last February. I was disappointed knowing that the main pool contained salt water rather than fresh water. Fortunately the whirl pool contained fresh water. Anybody perhaps had been in Ovation before, please let me know. Thanks. Xobertlab
arebee
I think they all have salt water in the pools and fresh in the hot tubs.
Jeff
what is the reasoning behind salt water pools? I've never been in one... just curious.. are they easier to keep clean and sanitary?

Marc
My understanding is that pools had been traditionally saltwater because that was easily available to get from the seawater and filter. With the Freedom class of ships, they started using desalinated (nearly freshwater) water for the pools as there was sufficient capacity from the onboard desalinization system. Oasis class ships use mostly desalinated water except for the "Beach pool", which I assume they use saltwater for theming. I don't know what Quantum class ships use, though.
