YCurrence
Hi Everyone, I am going on Mariner of The Seas for a quick 3 day weekend getaway. I haven't been to the Port of Nassau and I understand that a new state of art one is being built. From other blogs & videos that I have seen taken/done in late summer it looks like quite a few town shops & restaurants that are close to the port aren't open due to the decline of tourism, etc. due to COVID. Has anyone gone recently and if so what was open? Thank you. Shawn n Tiffany
Matt
The waterfront area is under construction and you heard right, many shops are closed. The bars that are there tend to open around noon or so. My advice is book something in advance rather than meandering around the port. Montana21
Looks like they cancelled Nassau on the November 19th cruise (Independence of the Seas). So, keep an eye to your itinerary, Nassau may be cancelled as well. I honestly prefer they cancel Nassau for my November 26th cruise. bryresangel
makinready
Can you get any kind of refund for port cancellations or onboard credit?

You will be refunded for any shore excursions that you purchased through Royal Caribbean if the ship does not dock. Otherwise, no.

twangster
I got a sea day to replace Nassau on Indy early November. The short Florida cruises don't always have a lot of options for alternate ports. I'm okay with a sea day. Totally fine with this update. twangster
As far as port fees and taxes I'm not expecting a refund of those. Looking at my sail date the port fees and taxes are higher today for a new booking compared to what I paid back when I booked it. Most of port fees and taxes cover expenses related to the US embarkation and debarkation port. Pilot fees, longshoreman to handle the lines and loading supplies, dock fees and other expenses are fixed costs that don't change if there are 4,000 guests or 400 guests on board. With reduced capacity and bookings soft these fixed costs are spread over a lower number of passengers. in some cases Royal may be losing money on these charges otherwise they'd need to come back and ask for more money from guests and that's not going to happen. So when the port that charges the least amount of port fees drops off the itinerary that is negligible in the bigger picture of reduced capacity and the much higher fees charged by American ports where labor costs are significantly higher and some of those workers are unionized. They also will have a higher fuel bill now with a sea day but hopefully they can offset that by keeping the casino open. That is unrelated to port fees and taxes though. Put it all together and I'm not expecting to see any drop in port fees and taxes for my modified sailing that skips Nassau.
WAAAYTOOO
We have a cruise on Allure 11-14-21. The original itin was Nassau, St. Thomas, St. Maarten. They recently changed it to San Juan, St. Maarten and St. Kitts. This is actually very good news for us as it eliminates all of the prohibited ports and adds new ones that do not prohibit unvaxxed. Whether Royal will let us sail is, of course, a completely different issue....but at least there is hope now. Nice, so I would expect they cancel Nassau for November 26th cruise as well. I honestly don't like the excursions for that day at Nassau. Nassau is not receiving good reviews in the Shipmate app these days.

PPPJJ-GCVAB
So is it only certain ships cancelling Nassau? Just wondering if my Oasis cruise (already has had 2 itinerary changes and Nassau is now one of our stops) will see yet another change? I imagine as construction continues there will be times when the outer pier isn’t available in the near term then the inner pier at other times. I was surprised to see Allure using an inner pier recently. Certain ships work better in specific locations. That makes it wild and crazy to plan pier closures and then rescheduling when CocoCay is already taking two ships on some dates. Add other cruise lines and their different ships Not sure I’d want that job at Royal that has to rebuild the jigsaw puzzle every time one piece changes shape as you are working on the puzzle. LSUWAG
Yep my bad. I was getting lost in the sauce with too many upcoming cruises and excitement. It was not on the Nov 21 Harmony but it is and still remains to be on the Nov 28th Harmony.

bryresangel
As far as I know, ours is still stopping there on our 12 Nov Indy cruise. That's kinda interesting to me, seeing as how so many ships around that time have been cancelled.
