Unless they added shore power capability to Ovation she can't home port in California.  CARB allows limited visits for ships that haven't home ported there before which is how Serenade was able to embark the canal recently but to homeport a ship in Cali requires shore power.

How about staying home ported in Seattle and doing California coastal with a stop in Ensenada or Cabo for a foreign port?! It’s always been a dream that a ship would stay in Vancouver or Seattle year round doing southbound sailings outside of the Alaska sailings.

Unfortunately, I think Ovation will return to warm lay up until Alaska 2022

Talking to crew members on our recent Ovation cruise all of them were very concerned about what would happen with Ovation after the last Alaska sailing. Most had just returned to work after a long layoff and were concerned about losing their jobs again 😞

Can't.  Canada is closed to ships.  No foreign port to visit. So MX?

Seattle to MX is a long way by ship.  Very few have time for a long cruise in the winter.  Seattle to Ensenada is 3.5 days by ship.  An eight day cruise would go from Seattle to Ensenada and back.  #boring.  No one would book that.  They would have to add a few stops and that means 10 to 11 day cruises.  Very few can do that, most people will take a week vacation to cruise but not two weeks so the target market is retirees.  No way to consistently fill a Q class ship like that.

ATRA to bypass Canada only applied ship going to Alaska.  It was very specific.

Reports from onboard indicate they have already been told they are going home.

Shore Power ?  Does anyone know?

What west coast ports have this capability now?

How hard would it be to retrofit Ovation to use shore power?

Holland America says it is now installing shore power (ABB) on  6 ships.

Requires going to a shipyard.  My understand is a couple of million per ship.  HAL and Princess do a lot of west coast cruises so they've been modifying their ships.

Technically Canada is open to cruise ships next month. Reality is they aren’t expecting ships till next summer but rolled ban back to November to try to seem like they are being reasonable. Wouldn’t it be funny for Royal to call their bluff and say yes, we will sail Pacific coastal starting November with a stop in Victoria lol
