One - smooth sailing Two - a little choppy Three - "Oh look, they put out the seasick bags!" Four - The pools look like the below pictures... Five - "Are we sure he steered around that hurricane?" Even saw some older kids in the Solarium pool while it was crashing back and forth. Looked like they were having a blast and it was fun to watch them (yes, their parents were there). From Quantum 2015 (shortly after these photos, the ship lost power for about 10 mins...more than a few not-so-relaxed faces at that moment). People were getting slammed into this metal divider in the pool. We were in lounge chairs facing aft. As the bow went up, all we could see was ocean. When the bow went down and the stern came up, all we saw was the sky. This was way before stabilizers were a thing. Had a 4 almost 5 on the Emerald Seas in the Bahamas one college spring break. It took out 2 lifeboats, broke exterior glass doors on deck 5 and flooded the aft elevators. That was a doozy. We happened to be in an aft JS and we could feel the ship sliding down the faces of the waves. Once we got through the storm, the weather was absolutely awesome. Although one cruise on the Radiance from southern New Zealand back to Sydney Australia through the Tasman Sea we encountered an antarctic storm where the captain had to head south to try get behind the storm before heading north. The pools were drained, bar shelves emptied, plates put away into cupboards in the Windhammer and by 9pm, all the doors leading to the outer decks were locked. It was an awesome storm, we went put onto the balcony on deck seven to watch the lightning and we were getting quite wet from the seas, with huge waves. The drawers and cupboard doors were opening and closing and so intsead of sleeping, we went to the casino for ginger beer to help the tummy. My drink accidentally kept getting scotch mixed into it, lol. One of the card table staff was going green as the hours went on until he had to leave the table, fast, poor guy. Did not see hime the next day. Fun night rocking and rolling and being a bit tipsy, was walking straight while all the sober people were bouncing off the walls. Captain kept the ship into the wind and waves. No roll to the ship, only up and down motion as we climbed over the waves and went down the other side. Our cabins were starboard forward deck seven at the forward stairs. We had sea spray up and over our balcony. The ship moaned and groaned and shuttered as the force of the seas exerted pressure on the bow. Sounded like one of those old WWII submarine movies when the sub dives deep and is depth charged. It was a blast!! Kids slept right through it. The next morning as we sailed into Ft. Lauderdale the sky was cloudless and a beautiful blue and the ocean was like glass. He retired from the US Navy and spent a lot of time in the North Atlantic in a destroyer. Some of the stories he told made me feel nauseous just hearing them. He even had a few pictures that looked downright scary. Most I've ever experienced was some swell in the Eastern Caribbean that made the pools slosh around a bit. Joette Posted October 15, 2021 Report Share Posted October 15, 2021 A few years ago we did a cruise around South America on a 'something' of the seas (lol, I can’t remember which ship). We had to take the Straights of Magellan because the seas were way too rough. Even the Straights were something else! Could not go on deck at all. We were in the Diamond Lounge in the evening and you had to wait and run to your seats with your snacks to go with the flow. Love that! I think you were a few weeks later than we were - our sailing was September 10th. But either way, yeah, watching people try to walk a straight line on seas like that is incredibly entertaining.
