Price Drop Flex

Recommended Posts

Repricing can be pretty confusing b/c there are so many factors that have to be considered.

This is the sequence that I use to see if there has been a price drop or not :

1.  Has the base price of my cruise changed ?  This is the original, retail per person price before any discounts have been applied.
2.  What are the current discounts ?  This is the hard part.  You have to be able to determine what the current offers are and that can be confusing but the bottom line is all that matters.  If the base price has gone down but the current reductions are also less than your original price then there may or may not be an actual overall price reduction. Check each one to see if it still applies or if there are any new or different ones.

3.  When you call make SURE that the agent applies ALL of the effective promotions and discounts.  I had an issue with this very recently. The agent (this was a casino comp so I was working with a casino agent) told me that my current price was lower than the “new” price but I knew that was wrong b/c the base price had gone down and they were still offering all of the promo/discounts of my original pricing so I knew there HAD to be a reduction.  After a few minutes of discussion she realized that she had not applied one of the discounts.  She made that change and sure enough, the overall price went down !

This can really get confusing when you start talking about Kids Sail Free or Single Supplement pricing and since none of those ever applies to me, I’m useless !

When the military discount for our Explorer cruise showed up, it was $620 and I had my TA jump on it.  Now the discount is only about $300.  So even though the other discounts may be a little higher, doesn’t make up for the difference in the military one.  Bottom line is the only thing that counts.  I look almost daily.

Do a mock booking on your specific cruise exactly as you have booked in regards to cabin type and number of people.  Go all the way through selecting your cabin & a total will appear.  If it’s less than you paid, call RC or contact your TA & ask them to get you the lower price.  As you can tell from this thread, it’s a pretty common request!

Thanks does it have to be done before final payment is due or can it happen few days before sailing?

Also does the category of room should be same, like interior guarantee, 3V etc

@SayuilWith the best price guarantee you can do it all the way until 48hr before sailing. As many times as you want. If it is after final payment you will get OBC, if before, it will go back to the method of payment. It has to be based on your room category, however you can upgrade and downgrade at your discretion. So if a balcony gty is cheaper than a promenade interior now, you can change and get best price.

I'll play. Thanks to this forum!! Two couples cruising in November, i called my TA and was given $318 credit on my credit card. Alerted our travelmates who called same TA and received $368 in on board credit. They were happy and I am happy with my credit. Both of these were after final payment.

Bank error in your favor.

I had the same thing happen a few years ago with a cruise that got shortened dramatically due to Hurricane Irma. I wound up with a FCC *and* a refund - we asked Royal about it, they said anything we'd received they weren't going to take back, even if it wound up being an error / double payment.

Oh, nice!  I hope that's still the case.  My husband keeps telling me to expect that they might take one or the other back, but I hope not!

So, how would you reprice a cruise when the stateroom you have booked is no longer available to compare to?  We have the two bedroom grand suite booked on Enchantment in Jan 23 and there are no others available to create a mock booking.  This is the only cruise that I booked with a TA, unfortunately I am going to have to stay on top of things by checking pricing.  Even thought his woman has 32years in the business her follow through is atrocious.

Unfortunately, with a sold-out cabin category your TA is your only way of doing a price check.  If you give me the sail date I will probably be able to give you the current full retail (no discounts or promos) rate and hopefully that will give you an idea whether the price is up or down but that’s only part of the story…

Another drop.

Jewel of the Seas  Dec 2021 Total cost 3765.92 (with grats, tax, and ports) divided by 4 = 941.48 per person.

  • Sept 27  $354 - first drop  = 3411.92    div by 4 = 852.98pp (with grats, tax, and ports)
  • Oct 5      $297 - second drop =3114.92 div by 4 = 778.73pp (with grats, tax, and ports)
  • Oct 9       56.64 - Third drop =3106.58  div by 4 = 776.65 pp (with grats, tax, and ports)

The GT (2BR GS) is retailing for $5625PP.  Of course, you must factor in promos and discounts to get a final price but at least you should be able to see if the base price has changed.

If the base price that you paid is greater than $5625PP then you should definitely contact your TA and have them check to see if you have a overall reduction.

There are four of us in the room. So it divided out as passenger 1/2 $5341, passenger 3/4 $1141.

IF we take out the discounts it is passenger 1-$5241, passenger 2- $2096, passenger 3/4 - $798 each.  Then the taxes, tips, and insurance. Total price for the four of us $11089.82.

The TA actually emailed me back and said our original price is still less. Thank you for checking for me.

I am loving this thread!

Make It Rain Money GIF by A Little Late With Lilly Singh

Here’s my flex!

Friends Tv GIF

In June, I paid $1,818.08 for two ($909.04 per person) on Odyssey.

In August, I received $475 OBC. This made the price $1,343.08 for two ($671.54 per person).

This month, I received a $878 credit to the original form of payment. This makes the current price $465.08 ($232.54 per person).

To date, I have received $1,353 ($676.50 per person) in price drops. This is a 74.4% savings from my original price. I can book another cruise with that! Unfortunately, my job does not understand the unlimited vacation policy! 🤪

I just got back almost $800 on my Feb 5 2022 Symphony cruise, it was put right back on my debit card. We used the money to book a hotel in Miami and will use the rest to help buy a drink package!

That's awesome! I love when it works out that well! you can even splurge on a pricier hotel with that much in savings!

We have had multiple price drops on our May 2022 AK cruise, Ovation. We have 2 balcony cabins, and have saved over $1200 per cabin. We had saved a lot on our December Oasis OV balcony cabin, but I wiped that out with upgrading ourselves to a JS. Just waiting for a potential price drop on that now. 🙂

I think an upgrade counts! Welcome to that suite life!

Everytime I see a price drop on one of my cruises, I check to see if a higher category cabin also dropped. Sometimes I'll pay a little more to take advantage of an upgrade. And sometimes I end up paying less for the higher category than I did on my initial booking!😉

That's so smart!

(not me checking a 2br GS now. awwww none on the site)

Don't have exact numbers in front of me, but we booked Anthem in August 2020 for a Bayonne cruise in December 2020.

  • 3 adults, 3 kids
  • 2 interior staterooms (2U and 4U)

So far we've gone from $4,200 to $3,300 (including tax/port, excluding grats).

I'm gonna root for that last $100 so you can be at a clean 1k!!

We booked our upcoming Odyssey cruise about a year in advance.

A re-price just a week later reduced our price by $147. A SECOND re-price a week after that, reduced it by another $254 for a total savings of $401 in just two weeks.

I think the real savings is the fact that we booked so far in advance.

Right now, the cabin right next to ours (same category) is priced at $1178 ($589pp) more than we paid! 😵

For a future cruise, how do you do a price check for a cabin you're in if it's sold out?

I did that! While I was on the phone re-pricing a booking for a lower amount, I asked about another booking which showed it was sold out. The agent told me it was cheaper and I got the refund!
