American Express Offer

So, this is my plan...bring my AX card on my sailing in 43 days. Book a new sailing on board, get the perks plus the AX perk by placing 1,500.00 down on the sailing. Then return home and transfer it to my TA, yes? Maximizing benefits at all angles, will this work?

Yup. Make sure that you add the offer to the card now. Make sure NextCruise is using your Amex when you make the booking onboard and it should be all good.

Anyone double dip on these?

The wife and I both have the platinum card mine has the $500 off $1500 and hers has the $200 off $500.  I just used mine will have to call hers in next week for our spring break cruise with the kids.

Double dipping seems possible.
Reading the fine print of my $500 off offer it does not state only one offer per a cabin. Only one offer per card member across all Amex channels. So it appears two separate card members could each use their offer on the same cabin.

If you have two cabins, you could put one card member in one cabin and the other card member in the other cabin.  And then it would definitely work for both cards to the corresponding cabin.

@AshleyDillothanks for the heads up!  I have Amex Reserve, so I called to ask if there was a reason I didn’t get the offer.
She said they “probably just begin adding the offer initially to gold, maybe some platinums but simply haven’t got around to offering it to reserve yet!  🤣Bull Pucky🤣!
Someone purporting to be management followed up with an apology that I didn’t receive the offer, especially since I meet the criteria of a “Amex spending history with RCI ”.  They generated a marketing inquiry requesting that the offer be extended to me (10-14 days).  I’ll wait🙄.  If anyone else is interested, but didn’t get the offer,  you might want to give Amex a jingle:-). We cruisers have habits to feed😍

I really want to use this offer, so I cancelled all 4 Royal up bids (because it would not allow me to change my credit card) and re-bid a little bit more and placed the American Express as payment. This way IF, BIG IF I actually "win" I feel great knowing I utilized this great offer, if not which is usually always the case I will enjoy the great cabin I have as well as visit the Next Cruise desk with that American Express vibrating in my pocket, win win. It's just so nice to even see offers like this again.

(Not sure but I may have shot myself in the foot though as since I had to cancel and then re bid I'm sure I placed myself at the bottom of the bidding que)  but in 42 days being on the ship will be just wonderful, Oh my husband wanted to know if the genie stayed in a bottle in our room! (Funny guy)

We have only sailed Sky so a Star experience is in my dreams....

How do you get this perk? Do you have to book through Amex Travel? What if you take advantage of booking a new cruise while on a cruise?

I have done this various ways.

Booked online or Booked thru Next Cruise, then transferred to Amex Travel and then got the perks. As long as Amex Travel is the travel agent you should get the perks. But you must have Amex Platinum to get the OBC and Champaign/Wine.

Got $700 off our spring break cruise by making two separate payments, so yes if your spouse has a card check to see if they have offers as well.

My same card that gave me the Royal offer also gave me a Delta Airlines offer for $125 back on a single charge of $300 or more.

The Terms & Conditions state you can't buy a gift card but in the past it has worked if you purchase them directly through Delta's website using a computer (their desktop site).  So YMMV, but if you fly Delta it may be worth taking a shot at a gift card if you don't have a flight to book.

@AshleyDillowow, you saved me so much headache. Like @SpeedNoodles I had just now caught possible fraud and canceled my card and ordered a new one..

When I placed my AX on my Royal Up bids I realized it expired in November and I wanted to change the card before I was unable to do do BUT I never received my replacement card with my new expiration date, so I called.

My card while not used yet was sent and activated in September, wait what?? Not by me. AX confirmed my address and said it was sent USPS first class. Okay therein lies the problem. I was able to cancel my card and order a new one, imagine my surprise when they said they were sending it USPS again, ah no thanks!

Moral here you guys saved me a lot of heartache, thank you so much. Oh, the new card is being sent FedEx by Monday, in time to modify my RU bids!

Thanks Again!! Great Community here!

Pretty awesome! I have received $500 back from Amex already.  Charged $1500 with my Amex card with a Royal Caribbean Rep last Friday the 8th. $500 was credited this past Thursday. Very quick turnaround.

Hi,

To me it is not clear on how and why you get this on your Amex Card. My wife and I have in total 4 different American Express cards and only on one showed the offer. For me it was: spend $500, get $200 back - a no-brainer. The statement credit showed up 2 days after my purchase. I would check special offers on your cards after every billing cycle. What I have observed is that offers seem to change thereafter.

I saw and added the $350 back when you spend $1000 offer to my card, but now when I went to book a cruise the offer is gone. It said valid until 12/31/21. As this happened to anyone else?

If you clicked to add to your card, it should have moved the offer to your Added to Card tab. When these offers appear you have to actually click the Add to Card to save it to your account. American Express limits the total numbers of offers than be saved to cards, so you have to claim them when you see them. It shouldn't disappear after being added and you'll have until the expiration to use it.

Shoot, I looked through all my offers and didn't see this one. I would have LOVED to use it for a Royal Up bid for sure. I have never used my Amex for anything travel because we have a AAA Bank of America card that makes it worth it to use, I wonder if that's why? I wonder if I call if they would hook me up - I haven't used my Amex in like six months.

How long does it take to get your money back, once you made all the purchases to RC?

I didn't do $1000 in one sitting but i've paid over 1000 to RC, which i believe is also allowed, since adding this reward to my card. It's still before the exp date at the end of the month.  so the offer is still valid.

@D Alt Go over the terms, they are very very specific. I was able to get back the 350.00 on my card & 500.00 on Mr. Cabash but our deal specifically said at Royal Caribbean.com & I missed that first time out.

I placed one of the cards as the on board card in November & then used mine to purchase a watch I was looking at, I was like why not save 500.00, nope! When I came home the deal was not processing so I checked the purchases and the on board account charges were from Royal Caribbean not Royal Caribbean.com. I called AMEX & they would not budge.

Well I was getting those monies so I hit that Cyber Monday sale and purchased everything I needed for my sailings in 2022 at Royal Caribbean.com & I received the credits within the week. So I spent 2,500 on things I was going to purchase anyway & received 850.00 back.

I was going to spend it anyway in the near future, but I really didn't NEED that Tag watch!

See @AshleyDillo above the monies will be noted under "savings" before they appear on your actual account.

thanks, yes i am referring to purchases on RC.com too, not onboard purchases. I actually see it now on the rewards page as Redeemed $350.. and it can take up to 90 days.

Aww Man I just checked my card and I didn't have an offer 🥲

It's usually on the non-branded cards..like the Blue, Gold, Platinum and not the ones associated with the hotels or airlines.

You can try and see if you can get it to show up by going to your offers and adding some to your card. The most offers it will show is 100, so when you add some to your card it will open up for new offers to come in.

As with all AMEX OFFERS if you don’t see it, it might be because they only show 100 offers at a time. Log in with a browser (the app doesn’t give a count of many you have) and add as many offers as necessary to get below 100 to be sure you don’t have the offer. You might need to log off and back on to refresh the list.

I have the $1000, get $250 offer that expires 8/25/22. Anyone know for sure if charges onboard don’t count towards the total?

The onboard charges don't show on your statement as a purchase from Royal Caribbean so they don't trigger the offer. The terms and conditions also state it's not for onboard spend. Cruise Planner purchases do work.

Will appear on your Feb 14 statement as ROYAL CARIBBEAN MIAMI FL

This is what my onboard charge was from earlier in the year, however it also clearly indicates it was from Navigator of the Seas. AMEX knows it’s from RC.

Has anyone actually tried to see if the onboard charges work for this? I am fully aware of what the terms say but in the past with other offers (not RC) there’s been some wiggle room. Also, what do next cruise charges show up as?

There’s no way I will spend $1000 unless I include some casino gambling so I might try this to see what happens.

I haven't tried it with onboard spend, but my statement from my lsst cruise showed as OASIS OF THE SEAS MIAMI FL. ARRIVAL DATE 04/24/22.

My deposit I made at NextCruise went through as ROYAL CARIBBEAN CRUISES 800-327-6700 FL

The difference between how it showed on the statement is what makes me think it won't take the onboard spend.

I wouldn't test it by actually spending money onboard..but charging at the slot machines for the cash seems like a no risk test 🙂

I checked just for laughs, but couldn't find it. I stopped at 82 offers on my card. I never even heard of most of these places. I think I saw that you could call the number on the back of your card to find out about offers. I may try that next time I'm ready to book a cruise.

I had 500 off 1500 on my platinum and gold cards.  Used them both, got the 500 back on each card.

I had an issue where FCC weren't correctly applied so RC credited some it back to my card. I was outside the effective offer dates, and it got me below the threshold on one of the cards. The way Amex can be with clawbacks I was seriously afraid getting that $100 credit was going to cost me $500.

I snagged a myVEGAS comp cruise for September... now how do I make this work? Anyone know what a gift certificate purchase looks like to AMEX?  It's from a different site so the purchase could be coded differently. Or is it just like a reservation? I know the terms say gift certificates are excluded but I might experiment. By the way, the general AMEX Offers terms also warn against abusing or gaming the system...

EDIT: Answering my own question. It shows up as "ROYAL CARIBBEAN CERT" so it shouldn't work.
