No Show?

Yes, the single will get double points and the port fees and taxes for the no show get refunded.  One caveat is if the no show is driving a discount of some sort (C&A or casino rates for example) and the remaining party doesn't qualify, they may have to pony up the difference.

You don't have to give any heads up for a no show. These things do happen.

Hmmmmm... guess I will eventually find  out which answer is correct...  C+A on social media site sad no. C+A on direct call said yes and even it would be double double til Sept. 30, 2022....  I always heard that it was double points for single in room that was paid in full for a double...

I would say both C+A agents were wrong since the double points promo is through Dec 31 2022.  I suppose we should all be careful with our choice of words.  It's technically extra points for single, extra points for suite, and double points for the promo.  But I agree that if a no show means someone sails alone, they will earn the extra points but might have to call to actually get them.

Your answer makes total sense. So many times I deal with reps  that have differing opinions in other areas . Why not this one? I come here with these questions because I find our membership often has the right answers when reps themselves get a touch confused...

I misunderstood and misspoke about the date. It was because I had this booked before Sept 30. 2021 that I get the first double points. The second double according to the phone rep would be in place if I do wind up solo and having paid double for the cabin... The social media gal sticking to her guns I don't get anything???

I've received double points for a no show when my cabin mate didn't cruise.

I haven't tried in a long time though.

If you do get double points for being solo then you should also qualify for 4 x points.

Time will tell.

I've done this twice in 2021.

First time, I got 6 points (because I was in a JS). Worked perfect.

Next time, I "only" got 2 points per night (instead of 4 with the double points promo).

I called Crown and Anchor and even invoked the Odyssey of the Seas Suite Concierge to help. Both times they insist because my wife was booked on the reservation I got the double points, but not the "double double", even though I got it earlier this year.

Sometimes when I call…I’m tempted to ask the agent to please shake the Magic 8 Ball one more time. But…I never argue, I’ll just call back and hope for a better ‘shake’ with another agent.🤔

But, honestly…I’m lucky that I never had a bad experience with an RC agent. Always pleasant. They truly believe what they’re saying is fact, even when I know it’s questionable. People do make mistakes and it’s best to move on to another agent. Good luck.

Theres no ghost here. Real person. School attendance might become a last minute issue but not sure. Trying to get a grip on what is or isn't. The reps on the phone said "yes" the reps on line said "no".  Are they both right or both wrong or just one? I stull really don't know... So I'm still kind of at square one.  I was really looking to see if there is something I need to do on my part to get those points or if something to do to not be assessed some kind of no show fee (wasn't sure if there is one beyond no refund).

Ahhh the elusive all definitive "maybe" ... I feel better now... 😄

Tried the email route looking for a tie breaker. Guess that takes a few days to get an answer other than the automated "we got your message and will get back to you" ... Dawns on me that if the one drops out we might have enough time to replace him. (We will need to do that for sure on spring cruise). Is that a big complicated thing to get done???

I had this happen in Jan 2020. They refunded the port charges, but we did not get double points.

Not sure if the policy changed, but that was my experience

I don't think the double points had stated yet for that cruise, which was before the pandemic.

Pretty sure they didn't have "double double" but they should have got double for single in a full fare double room... I'm still uncertain about the double double and looking more to see how complicated it would be to switch a guest out and new one in their place...

Can I book a cruise as a solo and then add a person down the line before sail date?  Would there be a price adjustment ⬆️ ?

or conversely..(as the OP asks)

If I book a cruise as a couple, and then that person bails on me and I'm solo- there would hopefully be a price adjustment ⬇️ ?

If you add a person later there is a price adjustment.  Due to the solo supplement, it's often just better to book 2 people (the second one never planning to show up).  The 2nd person (who doesn't show up) will be refunded the port taxes and fees.

Adding a Guest

Most solo fares incur the 200% single supplement unless over 340 C&A points. When adding a guest the only additional money due is for port fees and taxes, and the drink package if already acquired by the primary guest.

They "shouldn't" reprice the cabin when adding a solo to a 200% single fare.  I've only done this once before reaching 340 points and there was no reprice.

If someone is using the reduced single supplement 340 discount for having more than 340 C&A points or was fortunate to benefit from one of the reduced single fares that are out there right now,  that's a different story.

Caveat - if you booked a studio cabin you can't add a person without changing categories and that will trigger a reprice for all guests. Studio cabins can only accommodate one guest.

Removing a Guest

This is where there can be a lot of... "it depends".  Port fees and taxes are refunded in all cases for the guest that doesn't sail.  They can, at Royal's discretion, move the remaining guest(s) to a cabin suitable for the number of guests on the reservation so they can sell the original cabin for the number of guests it can accomodate.  This can include a reprice.   This frequently occurs when there are 3 or more guests and guests are removed so there are only 2 remaining but it could occur for a solo in a double cabin if a studio cabin is available.

In many or most scenarios it's better to execute a no show.  The guest that doesn't sail just doesn't appear at the terminal to check in.  "Oops, flight was cancelled, I told them not to fly today".  This will still trigger a refund of port fees & taxes but at this point it's too late to sell the original cabin so Royal doesn't attempt to move the remaining guests and no reprice occurs.

Repricing always occurs at prevailing rates on the day the reprice occurs. Those are generally higher in most cases.

I took @Matt’s advice and tried pricing some of my cruises using two guests rather than just me being solo. In some cases, the price was somewhat less…but not enough of a difference for me to rebook. Even with the tax and port fees refund. All of my cruises are in Crown Loft Suites (Oasis) and Junior Suites (Anthem), so I don’t know if that makes a difference either way. I’m fast approaching the 340 point mark so I will reprice afterwards. Hopefully I see a drop with the 150%. Double points gives me six points per night. I appreciate Royal doing this because this is where I would be anyway if 2020 wasn’t cancelled.

**Off topic but, can’t help myself…tickled pink as I just this moment got my negative result from CVS for Sunday’s cruise. Damocles’ sword has nothing on waiting for a pre-cruise Covid result.🥳

how do you go about getting the fees and taxes refunded

If your other pax are a no-show, then they will refund taxes and fees after the cruise has commenced. Since the cruise has to actually start and they do not attend. If you want to reprice as a solo before than that is also an option.
