RoyalUp to a Junior Suite?

So I got an email that I can RoyalUp to either a Junior Suite, an OceanView-No Balcony 2 BR or a Spacious Balcony room from a regular balcony ocean view room.  Other than the extra space I would be getting in the room, not seeing too much of a benefit to paying the extra money at this time.  A Junior Suite, as nice as it is, only gets a few extras like a robe and nice toiletries.  Oh and a coffee machine, which would be nice.  But I wouldn't be eligible for any extra points.

This is my first Royal cruise, so I think starting off with a balcony was nice as it is.  And maybe another time, if they offer double points again, i'll go for the Junior then.

Do I bid or not bother?

It's really a question of what matters to you, and how much you are willing to pay for it.  Based on what you stated, I would leave it alone.  Have a great cruise!

We Royal Upped from an Oceanview Balcony to a Junior Suite last month on Adventure.  It was the first time we have stayed in anything "higher" than an Oceanview Balcony.  We really enjoyed it.

Our takeaways:

  • The cabin and balcony were both larger than a standard Oceanview Balcony cabin.
  • The tub has a lot more room when taking a shower compared to the phone booth size shower stalls that regular Balcony cabins have
  • The walk-in closet was awesome.

Our thoughts:

We've talked extensively about what kind of cabins to book going forward and decided we will be booking no more than regular balcony.  We will definitely bid on a Junior Suite if offered the chance but will stick with the minimum bid.   It's not that we don't like extra space, it's that we have a lot of irons in the fire and don't want to pay the extra money when booking at this point in our lives.  We would rather cruise two to three times a year in a lesser cabin than once in a suite.  That being said, we retire in eight years, and all bets are off as far as cabin types at that point.

We're not chasing C&A status, so the lack of double points doesn't bother us.  ymmv

We put in a Royal-up bid on a Jr Suite on our Adventure cruise which we received. The extra room was nice but the cost and the fact that we were almost never in the room did not seem to justify the room. Plus we flew in and so the reduced luggage did not even come close to utilizing the walk-in closet. The smaller showers are not an issue to us so we are sticking to our balconies unless Casino Royale gives us another Jr Suite like we have later this month, but I really do not see that happening again.

We just stayed in a junior suite on the Freedom. It was nice, but we didn't find that the extra space was really necessary for just the two of us. We went on the balcony once, and never used the tub. The coffee maker was an espresso/Americano pod machine, which is great if you love STRONG coffee. However, I did really enjoy the walk-in closet! It was nice to be able to change without waking my husband.

Personally I wouldn't bid on a whim. It's bidding against other people who might really want that upgrade but can't afford it. But to each his own. Either way I hope you have a fantastic cruise!

I will personally always bid on a Junior suite if it’s a reasonable offer. On the oasis and quantum classes you get access to dinner at coastal kitchen and the extra space really is nice (even if unnecessary).

Hope you are enjoying your cruise!

We are!! Just made our early arrival in Cozumel and will be headed towards Nachi if the rain doesn’t pose too much of an issue today! Enjoying coffee in bed before heading out for some exercise.

The room has been amazing, and I am officially sold on why everyone enjoys Coastal Kitchen so much.

We Royal Upped to a JS from a balcony on Odyssey last month. NO walk in closet!  Shower and tub were in one room & toilet was in across the entry way in separate room.

On Odyssey now and that’s what we have - two toilets (one with the shower and bath), no walk in but tons of storage. We’ve been very comfortable.
