St Thomas, USVI -- Too Old to SCUBA?

I'm still awaiting the 'powers that be' at RCL Shore Excursions to figure this out with their Scuba operator at St. Thomas, but I'm curious as to whether anyone has encountered and conquered the "2 year dive challenge" requirement ("Divers must have completed dives in the past two years to participate" and "Must be a certified diver who has been on a dive in the past two years." )?  I was certified Open Water and Open Water Advanced long ago, but my last eight dives occurred over 5 years ago -- in Australia, on a dive boat.  I'm willing to go through a refresher / skills assessment session with my local PADI dive shop (in their pool, as the Columbia River is rather cold and weed-filled right now), and am hoping that will satisfy the requirements.

In this case, it's not a function of age, but rather of diving experience timing, but I couldn't figure out how to word it.

We dove a number of years ago (St. Maarten, as I recall) but had not cruised in many years, prior to that.  Nobody asked, nobody checked and everything was fine.

I am now faced with another "too old" issue.  Now that we are both over 65 we are no longer allowed to dive on Royal Caribbean excursions.  My diving days had pretty much been done already so it's not really that big a deal, but I don't like the idea that I CAN'T dive on a cruise, if I wanted to !

That's interesting -- the Shore Excursion only has a MINIMUM age (12); no mention of a maximum . . .

@WAAAYTOOOWhere / how were you told that if you're over 65 you can't dive on RC excursions?  As I said (well, typed), in the excursion I booked, there's only a minimum age . . .

Yea, I have encounter that pre-Covid and even though I am open water certified, I did not have my log book proving I had dived within the past two years, so I had to join the new to diving excursion. I am in the process of doing a couple now with my wife who is going through the certification so I have the dives logged. I am not sure but RCL may have a re-fresher course on-board and this may count? Might be worth an email to shore excursions team.

Do they require you to be a swimmer to join  by the discovery scuba excursion?

I only found this in the description: "Guests should consider their swimming ability when selecting tours involving water-based activities. "  I would think it advisable to be able to swim independently for 25 meters or so -- but that's just my opinion.  It would be best, probably, to communicate with RCL and have them ask the Tour Operator.
