Bad/dropped connections, dead-end calls, oh my!

Yes, I know a TA could take care of this for me if I used one. Maybe one day. 🙂 For the most part, I enjoy this aspect of planning. Sick, I know.

After this afternoon, I have decided that I am not supposed to upgrade to the ‘larger balcony’ OV. I have called RCI 6 times today, and three times ended up in a dead zone after listening to the recording about sailing again (I can say it word for word with him now😂), and pressing 4, then 2. Nothing, nada, no one home. Three other times, I’ve gotten connected with a rep only to have the call drop because the connection was beyond awful.  Each time was before they could check on the small price difference.

So, maybe this is my sign to not move cabins. 🤷🏻‍♀️ I don’t need a deeper balcony anyway.  I can just throw that paltry sum away in the casino. 😁

All that aside, for those of you who do call, any tips or suggestions for connecting with a rep that is not located somewhere with abysmal wifi calling? Connecting with a rep that has decent wifi seems to be harder for me this week than it ever has been before.  This was throughout the afternoon to early evening.

Thanks for any input in advance.

I’m seriously considering it for any new bookings @twangster, especially as we go into retirement in a couple of years.  It’s just hard letting go of something I get such a great deal of pleasure from.  Hopefully, traveling more soon will mean I need someone to take care of the fine details while I just have fun.

And I know where to look now. 😁

Thanks for the #.

You can still micromanage your cruise with a TA. You can still plan ALLLLL the fun stuff. If there’s a sale, just drop them an email to check your price. No need to call 6 times and get dead air.

Seriously next booking go with a TA (obligatory shout out for MEI and Sharla in particular) 😁

I usually transfer my bookings to my TA; however, sometimes it pays to wait.  I have two TAs I deal with, but one is overseas and the other is on a cruise right now.  I found a price drop on my January sailing, and called the "regular" RCL number.  I was connected in about 5 minutes, and the rep actually saved me more than I thought I was going to save.  In the past month, I've called RCL about 5 times, and haven't been dropped once.  YMMV.

Although I invariably find price drops before my MEI TA, she is quick to get it taken care of for me. Today for instance, found an added military discount for my Explorer cruise in October 2022.  Saved $579.  Mindful of the several hour time zone difference, Emily got back to me with the new invoice very quickly.

I recently discovered that you can only do this within the first 30 days after booking; I think it used to be 60 days, and when I found that out, I tried to transfer to a TA, but was juuuuuust outside the 30 day window. 😞

Next time I'll go with a TA from the get-go.  (newbie mistake)

I make and service all of my future bookings myself. When I need to call for any reason, I usually do it first thing in the morning.  I have had several frustrating times in the afternoon where I listen through all the messages, press the different numbers (it would be so much quicker to be able to bypass all that and just press ‘0’ for an agent) only to get to the final message about the call being recorded for accuracy and training…then hearing one phone ring and then….nuttin’.
But those instances have been very few and far between. Also, I have been fortunate to never have had a connection bad enough to cause me to hang up. Virtually all of my interactions with RC agents (when we finally connect) have been very satisfactory and pleasant. All have been knowledgeable or quick to check with a supervisor when they didn’t know an answer.
But…if I wasn’t lucky enough to be able to spend so much time and effort on my own…I would definitely hook up with a good TA. I’ve been on these forums long enough to see how customers are very happy with MEI.
