Opinions on how to cancel please!

Hey everyone…opinions please.

We had a cruise for April last year, cancelled and took FCC. We rebooked for that Dec. Few months later we realized it wasn’t going to happen and did a L&S to this Nov.

Now it’s looking like we won’t be able to travel because my daughter is unvaccinated and it’s a problem for school letting her back etc and we aren’t quite sure things are moving in the right direction.

so my question is….since our money is already in the game ( for like ever!) is it worth a shot to let it ride out and see if I can cancel for a refund if I  say I don’t like the health policies for our sailing. I know in theory I should only get a FCC but I thought they were offering refunds when people didn’t agree with restrictions.

Since you can cancel up to 48 hours before the cruise and still get FCC, might as well see if there is an out for a cash refund for protocol reasons.  That would be my surefire answer IF you have already made final payment.  If you haven't made final payment, then that's a gamble you have to decide whether or not it is worth taking.  Make sure you understand the booking requirements and expirations for the FCC before you sink the entire payment into possibly being tied up in one.

If you haven’t made final payment and want to try for a refund, switch to the cheapest available room (risking least amount of new $ in addition to deposits), make final payment and then wait it out. If you do decide to take trip, upgrade to whatever is available.
This would be my strategy.

Call royal and explain your circumstance...you can always deactivate FCCs and get a 100% refund for the money they are holding on that as long as you do it in the designated tie frame. As for the rest of your money, it should be refundable. We have lost over $3000 in FCCs they can't seem to find after applying them to multiple cruises. They say they have a specialist working on it bu that has not helped so far and we are waiting over a month just for them to track them. If you are with an agent, have them call and get your options.

If Royal Caribbean's new health protocols for a cruise you have booked aren't what you want, you can not only cancel your cruise but get a refund on any future cruise credits you have.

Definitely an option!  lol

We ditch our kids once a year (at least) to vacation.  ?

Any tips to get over my guilt? Lol. I've never been away for more then 1 night and she is my only child and usually we bring her EVERYWHERE! She had been to Europe twice before she was 3!

But I admit an adults only vacation sounds appealing...and definitely the drink package will get good use!

Time with other family members (grandparents etc.) is equally as valuable. ?

Jokes aside, we have been leaving the girls once a year since my older one turned 1.  It was Hubby's idea and I was reluctant at first.  We kept this "tradition" up until covid messed up our travel plans last year.  In 2020, we did not leave them at all.  This year, while we still can't cruise, we headed off to the Rockies for two weeks last month without them.  You know what they said when we came home?  They both said they missed their time with my parents tremendously and it was good to spend two weeks with because they missed out last year.  In fact, the tables have now turned and my 15 year old claims that we are more clingy than she is lol.

I can relate

We have an only child 22 year old daughter who has always gone with us.

We are finally going on a vacation without her, did I mention she's 22.

Both sets of grandparents have pasted and I regret never sending her to my mom (We live in NC she lived in FL)

My in laws would only watch her if it was work related so if you have parents who want to spend time with her please try it.

Will you talk about her, will you miss her, sure but it's important to have couple time too.

In the end you and your husband just need to do with what you're comfortable with.

Thank you so much!

The reality is I feel like she is missing out but also that I know its not in her best unvaccinated interest to travel yet.

My husband and I are both healthcare workers, so after this last year and all the stress, an adults only vacation might be exactly what we need.

And my mom lost 2 years with her due to covid so she LOVES the idea.

@MarlenaI totally understand missing out.  My daughter would be very unhappy if we were going to Europe but this is a trip to Alaska so she's kinda ok with it.  Plus she's going with us in May 2022.

I copy @luvstodans, thank you so much for your efforts as healthcare workers!!!

Maybe do this trip without her but plan another with her so she has something so look forward to if you are able to?

@MicDay my husband actually mentioned we would take a Disney cruise once she is vaccinated so sounds like a WIN.

@Marlenathat was our very first cruise.  It was hands down one of our favorites but the price is a shocker.  We have sailed 5 different lines and felt Royal gives us what we were looking for.
