Then we went to dinner at Coastal Kitchen. It was filet night. The Caesar salad French onion soup was delicious and the filet was excellent. The guys also tried the duck breast, but said the filet was better. Dessert was hazelnut cake, cheesecake, and chocolate cake. After dinner we went to see the headliner act Charles Peachock. He was very good. Originally Allan had saved us seats in 3rd row but with some mobility issues, we ended up sitting toward the back.

We then headed back to the room and unloaded bags before I tried to blog. I had trouble loading pictures, so I think the internet was slow

Day 2

I got up this morning at 9!  Mike, my mom, and J were missing. Turns out they went to get coffee at Cafe Promenade  and explore Central Park. Coffee was ok. We then all went to Coastal Kitchen for breakfast. Croissants and scrambled eggs were really good. French toast was ok. Cheese omelet was a little dense. I forgot to take pictures but still have a couple more days to do it.

After breakfast, I settled the kids at the flow rider with the 2 grandmas while Mike, his dad and I went to a seminar on art history. I met @wozswoman there. Then went to check on the flow rider crew.

I spent an hour or so writing this on the balcony then mom and I went to the Thermal Spa. Spent some time hanging out on the hot rock benches where we met a lovely woman named Tricia from Boston.  Grabbed another chocolate milkshake from Johnny Rockets.

When we got back to the room, they were just starting rehearsals for Aqua Nation. I think it will be new since the restart since they are only doing Aqua 80 this week.

Following along - living vicariously through others until our next cruise in November.  🙂

I didn't catch what deck you're on.  We have a 2B ATS on Symphony next year and we're on deck 10.  I'm trying to gauge whether it's too high up or not.

Thanks for posting!  I think cruisers are all a bit deprived right now and I know I personally love reading the blogs to keep me going.

Oh dear! I hope this will be in ADDITION to and not in PLACE of Aqua 80’s! I’ve been looking forward to this show due to it’s rave reviews!

It think it’s going to be in addition to. It looks like there’s still a ways to go.  Each group (synchro, divers, dancers) was practicing separately today.

We’re on deck 10.  It’s not too high up, but I’d go with deck 9 if it was available.

My husband told me he funniest story.  While we were in the spa, he brought the boys to the zip line.  He was about 10 groups back and one of the staff was going down the line to tell people to take off loose articles.  The staff member saw the kids’ star wrist bands and he asked my husband and sons to follow him.  He checked them in separately and put them right on the ride.

I second @GregD I am enjoying this so much. Thanks you for the candid pics, so excited for you!

Thanks guys for reading along. This is really fun to do.

We had dinner tonight at 150.  Food was amazing.  We started with the braised short ribs, Caesar salads, and got the artisanal cheese platter (listed as a dessert).  For main course, we all got the filet (no tenderloin for 2 this week.  We got 1 fried cheesecake to split and then headed to the ice show.

Coastal v 150 - braised short rib is not to be missed. Cheese tray and and pull apart bread at 150 was also really good.  Filet and sauce was better at coastal but sides were better at 150.

After dinner we went to the ice show. I thought it was amazing. There was a sand artist who performed during the show as well.

We then went back to the room where we had Allen deliver 1 of every dessert  from Chops delivered along with vanilla ice cream for the kids. We enjoyed it on the balcony while watching football on the aquatheater  big screen.

Allan arranged breakfast on the patio this morning. Jonathon set the table even though I told him it was ok to just leave everything on it and we’d take care of it. Food was good although 13yo complained his pancakes were cold. Rest of the food seemed at a good temperature.  Doesn’t appear to be a bacon shortage - we requested 15 slices (3 each)

15 year old J photobombed the first picture

After breakfast, J and I went down so he could rock climb. He has rock climbed before but it’s been a couple years. He did the green and yellow courses no problem and made it 3/4 up the red. It was neat that the rest of the family was able to watch from the balcony of the room and cheered him on.

10:30 - I was going to grab a milkshake at Johnny Rockets, but they were closed. So J and I grabbed ice cream at sugar beach. Then off to the flow rider for mixed waves

The funny thing about this cruise is that I haven’t had a moment to stop. When we have done Disney cruises, I’ll usually just sit on my balcony and read while the kids have gone to the kids’ clubs. That’s usually at least 4-5 books for a 7 day cruise.   It’s now day 3 and I haven’t even gotten 1/2 way through 1

The boys have been having so much fun boogie boarding, that I asked Allan to arrange some private time on the flow rider so they could learn to surf.  He arranged an hour today with Peter and Peter.  By the end of the hour, both boys were stand up surfing.

After the flow rider, mom and I went back to the thermal suite for about 20 minutes then we had dinner at Chops. It was a little disappointing.  The mushroom soup was excellent and the Caesar salads were standard caesars. The crab cake wasn’t very good (DH didn’t finish it) and the bread (pretzel and onion) was boring.  The bacon tasted “fatty and gross” according to one of my teens.

For the main course, we all got the filet.  I ordered medium while everyone else ordered medium well.  Somehow I ended up with a well done while my mom’s was red so we swapped.  We also ordered the tater tots, mashed, a baked potato, and asparagus as sides.  Quite frankly, everything tasted a little bland (under seasoned?).  Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t horrible but it was more what I would expect in the main dining room rather than a specialty restaurant.  The chocolate lava cake, however, was phenomenal.

The consensus for filet so far is 1) coastal kitchen, 2) 150 and 3) chops.  Beach club is tomorrow.

After dinner and right before Aqua 80, Allan had coffee and cookies delivered per our request. He also had playmaker ice cream bowls delivered as a surprise.  We tried but just couldn’t do more than pick at them.

Hey J — have you stopped by the teen club?  Trying to figure out if my 12 year old will be in the teen club with her older brother, or in the kids club.  If you happen to be there, could you ask the age range?

Thanks!  Hope you are enjoying the cruise!

I haven’t been in Social 298 (the teen club) but M, my 13 year old, has. Officially the age range is 13-17, but M has said that there are 12 year olds in there “whose parents have signed a waiver”.   We’re in Coco Cay most of the day tomorrow, but I’ll try to stop in late afternoon/evening to find out for sure.

I would love to hear how they are handling Covid protocols.  Masks, number limits etc.  We will be on Oasis in Nov with my 15 year old son.

Before I give my final filet rating, I must say… I was a little disappointed with Chops.  The filet was bland, one of the steaks was blood red, and orders got mixed up.  Maybe I was overreacting with screaming baby’s and obnoxious, maybe drunk, adults that couldn’t control their volume.  In the filet rating I will also include the filet I got at Coco beach club.  with all of that out of the way, I present…  The Final Filet Mignon Rating:  (1) Coastal Kitchen.   (A tie for 2) Giovanni’s Table and Coco Beach Club.  (3) 150 Central Park.  It was a very hard decision if I wanted to include it in the tie for #2.  (4) Chops.

Now all restaurant opinions in general, keep in mind, all I really eat is the steak.

Giovanni opinion:  Giovanni’s Table had amazing food and waiters.  My steak was a little undercooked, it was a thick piece tho… The wine sauce was amazing.

Coastal Kitchen opinion:  Amazing waiters and food.  It had much more of a selection than Giovanni’s. The steak from Coastal was perfectly cooked, seasoned, and melted in my mouth.

Coco Beach Club opinion:  Are cabana attendant was very patient with us and explained everything when we had questions about the food.  My steak was perfectly cooked. It was a little chewy but had a great taste.  Also.  Get the cookies as a dessert.  There amazing.

150 Central Park opinion:  Waiters were nice, nothing special about them. My steak was cooked perfectly.  It felt like a long meal, waiters were a little slow, the restaurant wasn’t too crowded, it was a pleasant and quiet meal.

Chips opinion:  look at the top⬆️

Also… my dad said that the Osso Buco, he had at Giovanni’s, was the best meal he’s had in his life.

J hasn’t been to Social 298, but 13 yo M knew the answers to this. He said that there are currently 12 yos in 298. Their parents had to come in and sign a waiver (13-17 don’t need a waiver). He said that the reason being given for allowing 12 yos in 298 is that they are vacc’d and their parents don’t want them in adventure ocean with unvaccinated kids.

Masks are required in any indoor location. You can take them off in restaurants and outdoors. I have only seen # limits in pools and elevators but tables seem spaced and some seats are blocked in entertainment venues. Nothing really surprising.

@Jkaczano Saw the Aqua 80 last night, while I loved some of the musical selections I had to wear ear plugs.  I don't know how you guys could stand the decibel levels in your suite!  Will msg you on Friday about a tour. 🙂

It’s not too bad during the 1st show, but my mom wanted to sleep during the second and couldn’t. She was looking for earplugs in “unboxed” but they didn’t have any

Today was a perfect day at coco cay. We started the day with breakfast on the balcony and then Allan escorted us off the ship. Mike went with his parents to the beach club while mom and I went to the waterpark with the kids.  Picture below is my mom with the boys on slingshot.

The problem with the waterpark is that there is no central location to sit and watch the kids.  It would be a real challenge with little kids to use a cabana.  We ended up following the kids around the park. After about 2 hours, I decided it was time to head to the beach club so I could have a break.

thanks to @AshleyDillo, we asked Allan to see if he could get us cabana 25, which he was able to do.  It was a perfect location. J and most of our group had the filet and I had the crispy chicken sandwich with mozzarella sticks. You can see J’s filet review above. My sandwich was tasty but I’m now getting tired of food.

DH, his parents, and the kids left the island about 3:30 to make a next cruise appt at 4, while my mom and I sent another 45 minutes hanging out in the cabana.

dinner tonight was at Giovannis. Quite frankly, we were pleasantly surprised. The tagliatelle carbonara and J’s filet were good (see above review). DH’s Osso Bucco (sp?) was the “best meal he ever had”. Add to that a phenomenal server who was attentive and fun and a manager who offered to send our desserts to the room when we asked for them to go.

Back in the room, Gusti left us a couple towel animals.

Nassau review for Blog

We took a Royal Caribbean tour to blue lagoon to see dolphins and sea lions.  The animals were amazing.  With covid we had to keep masks on the whole time, except for the beach.  Some of the staff were unorganized and careless.  They were filling boats to the max of people, and separating families.  You could hear the separated families screaming from ground to boat try to figure out what was happening.  If that wasn’t enough,  when the second boat arrived,  2 young men threw metal stairs on someone’s foot.  LOTS OF BLOOD.  Also,  when I was on the boat there.  The woman on the intercom was mumbling while the engine was roaring, you couldn’t hear a word she was saying.  On the ride back, the music was insanely loud playing “Party in the USA”… NOT FUN.  Blue Lagoon was so hot even w/o mask.  I definitely was about to have heat stroke w/ the mask.

Final opinion:

Animals were very fun, and very trained.  Blue Lagoon was extremely beautiful.  Staff sucked.

One last thing…

Get changed and use bathrooms on Cruise ship.  I had to get changed in the bathroom at Blue Lagoon,  nothing like hearing a couple having S3X and seeing a pair of two feet, one w/ nail polish.  There was also a man who sprayed sun screen in the middle of the bathroom.  It felt like a gas chamber.

Well…J’s review was rather blunt, but factually accurate. I would characterize the tour as disorganized and chaotic. I think we’ve gotten spoiled in that I usually book private tours, but this went a little beyond that.

I would also say that the families being separated was also due to them not being together in line.

Dinner tonight was Chops again. It was much better tonight than the other night. I think J has now reranked it to be tied with 150.

Starbucks is included with Star Class.  I definitely recommend that over Cafe Promenade.  In fact, you can even ask your genie to have it delivered to your room.

Things I’ve learned this Cruise:

(1) Get to Zip Line before it opens, unless you have Star Class

(2) DON’T ROCK CLIMB WHEN SUN IS FACING THE WALL… trust me

(3) Book private tours on islands, unless there is a foreign language

(4) Sugar Beach’s ice cream is the best you will ever have in your live

(5) Try to avoid Chops

(6) If possible, get Coastal Kitchen on filet night

(7) Ultimate Abyss almost always has a short line

(8) Royal Escape Room is extremely hard, but still very fun

(9) Emergency Alarm drills happen at ports.  Don’t worry about it if it says crew only.  They seem extremely real.

(10) Idk if it’s just the Cruise I’m on, but when you enter, it feels like the BackRooms.  People don’t talk, the inside looks like a party room, and time just stops when you enter.

Oh dang….I gotta admit I am actually looking forward to trying Chops! Hopefully my experience is better

I think the problem is that we were REALLY looking forward to Chops so we booked it for 3 or 4 nights and it was good but not as great as the other restaurants. Coastal Kitchen filet was phenomenal.
