Back to Back, how did it worked Pre-Covid, how is it working now?

Recommended Posts

I'm debating to book a Back to Back cruise BUT.....

first cruise would be with hubby and I.....2nd would be hubby leaves the ship and daughter (age 19) gets on.
Is this doable?  The same stateroom is available for both trips-does it even have to be the same stateroom?.

I tried calling Royal and I never had a less interested salesperson-perhaps because  I told her I just wanted to ask a question as opposed to "lets book this!"? She essentially said I guess it can be done when I asked if there were any particular protocols due to Covid she said "there could be but that's always changing".  LOL  Mind you I did not mention I am thinking of FEBRUARY to do this!-so I know there will be many changes between now and then.

So in pre-Covid times was this a "thing".  Book the same room but one person stays on both weeks and a new person joins for that second week?
During these days, what is happening?  I figured if I get a feel for the "old" days and the current situation I can at least make an informed "guess" as to what I can/cannot do.

Thank you!

There are a couple of threads on this topic.... I believe I read that there are two ways things can go. The first is if it is the same room you just go down and have breakfast. Then hit guest services for new setsail pass/seas card. Another is you get off ship but leave your belongings, then get back on.

They are still allowing a B2B.  If they will require a negative COVID test of all passengers to board, they are currently handling that where the ship tests the B2B cruisers.  The only thing different in your case is you may also be required to get off the ship to go escort your daughter on. Even though she is not a minor, i believe they won't let someone that young check in alone.  I clearly remember someone posting their experience with this before the shut down.  It isn't a big deal, but just something to keep in mind.

That’s what I’m wondering. Once I step off I won’t have a negative test in hand to get back on….unless they are testing everyone at some point prior to disembarking

You should get tested when all the unvaccinated get tested at the end of the cruise as part of the B2B process.  You shouldn't really have to check in again, they usually do that for you and make your new SeaPass card for the next cruise. They will know your test results before they do that. You have to ding out of the ship with the old card and ding back in with the new one.  They don't let the B2B ding back in until the ship hits a zero count on the first cruise.  Once you are dinged in, you're onboard and can use your SeaPass to get off the ship and meet your daughter to get her checked in.

Yup.

I did basically the same as you in January 2020…..my wife went home after the first leg and our 19 year old son joined me for the second.

I had to get off, meet him, and reboard with him.

All the Royal personnel I spoke with about this agreed it was silly, but I still had to do it…even when I explained he could enlist in the navy without my consent and cruise around the world.

It wasn’t a difficult process.

They had my new seapass waiting for me at the disembark point. I met my son outside the terminal, we went through security, then went to check him in.  When they took his name, they immediately escorted us back on the ship, no waiting whatsoever, even though regular boarding hadn’t commenced.
