Balcony with Obstructed View-Independence of the Seas

Hey Y'all!

Any insight on balcony with obstructed view? We found out today we are assigned a stateroom that has an obstructed view. It's  on deck 6 #6710. It's our first time cruising RC. We are a party of 3 including a 2 yr old child. Should we upgrade?

Thank you all!

It looks like 6710 is located on the big "bump" at the back of the ship. The obstruction is probably the the steel structure partially blocking the view of the ocean. You'll see a blocked view of the ocean, but you'll have a much bigger balcony.

I found a photo on cruisedeckplans.com It's not the exactly the same room, but you can judge it for yourself.

The cabin you are assigned is an aft cabin - which is always our preference.  It is considered obstructed due to the metal structure at the back of the ship but looking straight out, you can see and hear the ocean beautifully.  You are unable to look "down" directly to the ocean so if that is your preference then you may want to move cabins.

You will only have a cabin on one side of you as you are at the end of the hallway so that may reduce some noise from having one less neighbour.  Some people feel more motion at the back the ship but we've never had an issue. Others have reported having soot on their balcony but that's never been the case when we have sailed.

You will have a far walk from the elevators so that is something to keep in mind.  We love the aft corner balconies on deck 7 as the balconies are huge but I believe the corner ones on deck 6 will still be larger than your average balcony.   Hope this helps and that you enjoy your cruise!

Wake view aft cabins are generally in high demand but they are not as private as a side facing balcony on this class.

If privacy is important do some research, otherwise give it a try and you might find it's something you'll want to do again.

Thank you!!

There are people who TRY to get this kind of room so I would definitely give it a try.  Your balcony will be very large...nice catch !

Thank you!!
